CREATIVE CONCRETE & MASONRY

In early Feb. 2008 I agreed to and put a substantial down payment on Angelo?s proposal of. I had checked him out with the BBB. At that time he didn?t have a bad record or so I thought. BBB didn't have the letter grading system like they do now. He had only 2 or 3 complaints in the previous 3 years. He was to do the work as soon as the weather was above freezing. Mid March I called Angelo to see when he would be starting our driveway and he said he would start work on March 21st. On March 19th Angelo called to say he would start on March 23rd. He didn?t show on the 23rd, nor did he call to say he wouldn?t be there. On March 28th I finally was able to contact him and he said he had taken a job with OSU and couldn?t pass up the ?good money?. He would start on my driveway ?very soon?. On April 3rd. he said work would begin on April 7th. Early April 7th he called to say work would begin the next day. The next day he didn?t show up or call me. I tried to reach him repeatedly that day but could not and left messages saying either to start work that day or return my down payment. He called that evening and explained that personal circumstances prevented him from starting work. He sounded like he had been drinking. At this time I informed him that I no longer had confidence in him to do the work and wanted him to return my down payment. I hired an attorney and he sent him a letter the next day demanding return of my money or face a lawsuit. He didn?t return the money and we filed a lawsuit in Franklin County Municipal Court and in March 2009 won a judgment in my favor for violating the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act. He has yet to pay the money owed. This case and more are documented on the FCMC web site. This guy had every excuse in the book plus some original ones as to why he couldn?t get the job started. One time the excuse was bad weather yet it?s been documented that it was in fact ideal conditions and he was doing another job. It?s one personal drama/excuse after another with this guy. I joined Angie?s List after I started having problems with this contractor. If I had joined before I signed a contract I would not have signed with him. Angie?s List had more complaints listed in detail about the history of this company than the BBB did. He currently has a ?F? rating with the BBB. He also changes company names when he runs into trouble. Some examples: A. Spagnol & Sons, Creative Concrete & Masonry Construction LLC, A. Joseph Spagnolia Construction LLC . I hope others will learn from my experience and stay clear of this contractor.

The precast step part was not level and I had to tear that out. They didn?t do as much of the sidewalk as they were supposed to. The guy came back and tore it up and it was exposed for over a year until I got a new contractor. They made constant promises, but didn?t keep them. He was supposed to deliver the precast steps, but that didn?t happen. I contacted the precast step people and they were there the next day. I contacted a new contractor and they were there within a week.

The contractor has five to six employees in his crew. It's a family business and he's the 2nd generation. I got three other proposals before choosing this contractor, and he was the highest bidder. Customer service and communication skills are not his strongest attributes. I signed the contract with 1/3 of the cost on 6/29/05, with an agreement to begin work in 5-6 weeks, weather permitting. They completed the work on 8/19/05 and agreed to apply salt guard for the five weeks after the concrete cured. I had to go to their place of business 8 weeks later to complain about the salt guard application.

The plastic over the new concrete caused "streaks" in the concrete. The load of concrete from the truck was not correct per Angelo. My neighbor had his driveway poured from the same truck & was so unhappy Angelo had to tear out the new concrete & completely redo the job. My drive now has "holes" which Angelo has filled with different color concrete. It looks awful. Angelo just will not make it right.

THESE GUYS RIPPED US OFF AND WERE NOT COURTEOUS IN TRYING TO HELP. THEY IGNORED ALL CALLS I MADE TO THEM. WATCH OUT FOR THESE GUYS.

ANGELO HAS SET AND MISSED 3 DIFFERENT DATES FOR COMPLETE TEAR OUT AND REPLACEMENT OF OUR PATIO. THIS WAS HIS REMEDY FOR THE PATIO, HE STATED HE WOULD NOT HAVE IT IN HIS YARD, AND DOES NOT EXPECT US TO LIVE WITH IT EITHER. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH HIM, WHEN HE DOES CALL IT IS LATE AT NIGHT AND HE ALWAYS HAS A SOB STORY ABOUT ONE THING OR ANOTHER. WE HAVE GIVEN HIM 4 SEPARATE CHANCES TO DO THE WORK HE HAD PROMISED TO COMPLETE, BUT HE DOES NOT SHOW UP WHEN HE PROMISES TO COME. PORTFOLIO PICTURES WERE BEAUTIFUL, WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.

THE PATIO IS 2 COLORS INSTEAD OF 1. EVEN IF HE WOULD REDO DRIVEWAY I WOULD BE SOMEWHAT SATISFIED. THEY NEVER SAW CUT THE PAD FOR THE SHED AND THE KENNEL. THE DRIVEWAY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WATER CURED SO THAT IT DRIES SLOWLY INSTEAD OF FAST, CAUSING IT TO CURE HARDER AND RESULTING IN A BETTER JOB. HE NEVER TARPED THE DRIVEWAY AND SO IT NEVER PROPERLY CURED. AFTER 32 DAYS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO APPLY A SEALER, THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP UNTIL 100 DAYS LATER, TOTALLY UNANNOUNCED. I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE FOR CANADA ON VACATION AND SO IT WAS NOT READY FOR HIM TO DO WORK. I TOLD HIM TO COME BACK WHEN I RETURN IN 2 WEEKS. HE NEVER SHOWED UP AGAIN. THE TOP OF THE DRIVEWAY ALL FLAKED UP, HE TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO COME OUT AND REPAIR IT, I'M WAITING 2 MONTHS AND HE HASN'T SHOWN UP YET. EVERYONE I TALK TO IN HIS INDUSTRY SAYS IT REALLY CAN'T BE REPAIRED. HE'S GOT AN EXCUSE FOR EVERYTHING.
