Motz Cleaning

Shortly after moving into our house I received a flyer in the mail for housecleaning by Cindy Motz. The flyer was titled, "Just Like Mom's".She said she was bonded and insured. She came out and gave an estimate. She seemed professional and nice. She always had two other people come with her who varied over the years. My son's iPod disappeared and we suspected the cleaners but could not be sure since the iPod was often taken out of the house. Cindy also fired one of her crew and we had no further problems (that I noticed) for a long time. In the Dec 2011 to Feb 2012 a 14 ct gold necklace went missing missing from it's usual spot in a concealed jewelry drawer in my bedroom. It was necklace I seldom wore but it was ALWAYS kept in the same place and was sentimental because it was a mother/child pendant given to me by my family after the birth of my son. I did not say anything because I felt I should search the house thoroughly first even though it was never taken from the drawer unless I was wearing it. I let Cindy and crew go in February 2012. I searched the jewelry drawer thoroughly as well as the whole house and never found the necklace. Also missing was a commemorative SuperBowl pin, another gold costume jewelry necklace and a silver necklace. I talked to Cindy who said she could not tell me who she had in my house in the time frame that the jewelry went missing. She brought whoever she could on any given day. She does NOT perform background checks on any of her staff but says they are all people she trusts. Lesson learned: Do not hire anyone to work in your home unless they provide you proof of insurance/bonding and that you get the names of anyone they bring into your home to help them. I would also ask for a photo ID and fingerprints of people who have access to the inside of your home. Cindy would always clean the kitchen and let the other two clean the bedrooms where the only things of value I had were kept. I give Cindy Motz a "D" on price because although the cost of cleaning was reasonable, the theft of my personal property was too costly. I also disapprove strongly of the way she does business in that she could not tell me the names of people she had in my home. I know the name of one of her regulars and actually suspect him because he always cleaned the bedroom where the gold jewelry was stolen from. The replacement cost of the 14K gold jewelry is about $500. I suspect that with a gold buyer on every corner these days that gold theft is a lucrative business.
