The first day on the job, Andy discovered big plumbing and electrical code problems in our 1947-built kitchen, and worked with the plumbing company, the electrical contractors, and the city inspectors to fix the problems and keep the project on track.
Unfortunately, our cabinetmaker seemed overextended, not showing up for work when promised, and not getting work done on schedule. In addition, the cabinetmaker left gaps around some cabinets, cut a nasty hole in the back of one cabinet, and tried to redesign the kitchen on the fly. Without drama or conflict, Andy handled these problems by 1) repairing the damage, and 2) by both overseeing the work done by the cabinet maker and by working alongside him.
At the end of the day, Andy would make sure the construction site and adjacent rooms were clean, even Swiftering and then washing the floors and walls. When I had trouble keeping the wood floor clean in the living room, he showed me how he removes plaster dust from wood floors by wiping along the grain.
Andy stayed focused on our job down to the last detail, installing a utility strip (mop/broom holder), a rechargeable vacuum station, a paper towel holder, and hooks. He also made sure the new dishwasher and microwave operated properly.
Andy is a true professional, not someone you find often these days. He is modest, very hard-working, and dependable. His prices may be a bit higher than other contractors, but owning a home for 30+ years we've found you get what you pay for. We've hired folks who charged just a little less than Andy, and they rushed jobs near the end, left details unfinished, and didn't do jobs correctly. We've been left with their mistakes.
So we're very grateful we found Andy to fix around our house things we can't fix, and also to fix problems left by other contractors. I am not a member of Angie's List, but I'm writing this review because my husband and I want people to know how highly we recommend Andy and how much we appreciate the improvements he's made at our house.
If you are looking for a seasoned professional, someone who goes the extra mile to do the job right, we think Andy is your guy.
