I know how Angie's list works. You will read some of the positive reviews and then some of the negative reviews and then make your decision whether you will use the company. There really is no need to read further on this company. Please consider this the definitive review of its professionalism and performance.
I discovered a flood in my basement caused by the improper installation of a water softener. I called this carpet cleaning company and they came out that day and cleaned up the damage. They even came back the next day and helped take a rust stain out. If my interaction with them had ended there, this review would give them an A+
So, I have a finished basement that is torn up from the flood. They cut away the pad for the carpet and took off the baseboards to dry behind them. Once the drying is done, I need them to put my basement back together.
I scheduled FOUR appointments where they were no shows. They would lead me to believe they were coming, I would take off work, and they would not show. The owner at first said (after two no shows) he couldn't come out and do it because he had not been paid by the water softener installer, and he was a "small company" that could not float the cost to sub out the repairs -- about $300. Why he would schedule to come out and then not show up if he never intended to do the work is beyond me. So I personally called the water softener installer and made sure he paid. I then scheduled more appointments to get the basement put back together. No shows. Each time, he would say he was coming and then not show up.
I have this all documented in text messages. As I write this, it is 4:30 p.m. four days after he told me he would show up to pick up a piece of the pad he needed to match with the replacement pad for my carpet. I cut the piece out and placed it on my porch. He said he would be there at 10 a.m. on a Friday to pick it up. No show. I checked in with him via text. He assured me he would come the next day and not to worry, we were still set for Monday morning to fix the basement. He didn't come Saturday or Sunday to pick up the piece. And, surprise, Monday rolls around and no one shows up.
Why not just tell someone you are not going to do it? Why make them take off for work?
To top it all off, he had provided me the name of the company he said he was subbing it out to. I call them and ask if they are going to show up. They say they have no idea what I am talking about. They had no idea who he was and were upset that he was telling people they were supposed to be somewhere they weren't, because it made them look bad.
So I ask them if they want the job. They come within an hour and three hours later, the job is done. I wait nearly a month for something I got solved by myself in three hours.
By the way, he still has not called to say why they didn't show up this morning.
I know they let companies get on here and respond to these. I've seen people try to justify the bad service. I am sure he will have some excuse or story. Believe me when I tell you there really is no excuse. If he wasn't going to do the work, that is all he had to say. Scheduling appointments and not showing is one of the worst things a contractor can do.
Consumer beware.
"Mr. [Member Name Removed] thank you for the review. I did absolutely drop the ball on the portion of the reconstruction. As you said we did complete the emergency portion of your dry out the day you notified us and it was done absolutely correct and quickly. We then waited over 30 days to get paid for that. We are a small company and waiting to be paid for services already rendered hurts. I also would have figured that you would have mentioned that we saved your carpet from having to be completely replaced. We did that for free. I am personal friends with Mark Jones the owner of carpet depot. I also have text conversations between him and I working out having his company scheduled to do the reconstruction portion of your work. I did not show up multiple times though that is correct. I do have a very good excuse on why that is, but that at this point is irrelevant. I will leave this at saying that the work completed perfectly at your home was half the price of any other company out there, and the entire process was handled quicker than other companies would have as well."
Not well.
I bought a groupon coupon from Advanced Carpet Technology (seemed like a great deal). The provider showed up on time, but did a very rushed job leaving the carpet still dirty. My wife mentioned to the technician doing the job he was going to fast and he claimed the professional systems are so good they can do it that way.
After they left, my wife pulled out our residential carpet cleaner (one would think it wouldn't work as well as a professional machine) and pulled out tons of dirt (I'm hoping I can post the pictures of what we pulled out after our rug was supposedly cleaned.
We called the owner to express our dissatisfaction but got a lot of run around...first, he said that we didn't actually buy a 'carpet cleaning" but rather a "cleaning fluid extraction" (I guess that means its ok for the carpet to be left dirty as long as they extract the cleaning fuild (not what I had in mind when I bought it). He also Told my wife all their other clients are happy (not relevant to me, if I'm not, right?). In fairness, he did offer to do it again another day but said they would do it the same way (which obviously didn't work and btw is a huge hassle since we boarded our dog to get him out of the way while they were here and we moved tons of furniture so they could have easy assess). Finally he just told us to call groupon to get our money back. I'm fairly sure, I'll spend weeks trying to get this right, spinning between groupon and these guys.
Do yourself a favor, use a carpet cleaning service that gets consistent good ratings... life's to short.
"Thank you so much for the kind words!"
"Ma'am, I apologize… You are not one of our customers. I believe you have us confused with a different company. Please remove this review. Thank you"
