Runyon & Sons Roofing

I just emailed them to get someone to come give me an estimate. I was very disappointed that they would not accommodate and full-time person's employment schedule. They gave me no choice about appointments. It had to be during the week and only 9 am to 1 pm. Because of all the publicity, I believe they have become too big to improve their customer service and accommodate customers time restrictions. I am sure they are a good company, but several other roofers were willing to schedule estimates at a time when my husband and I would not have to take off from work to see them. UPDATE: I am pleased to share that Todd Runyon apologized for the miscommunication that was given me regarding appointment times for customers. He advised me that accommodating times for meetings with customers is a final decision that he and his team make for meeting outside the established times they already have. After our discussion, I advised him that I appreciated his contacting me and explaining the situation. I feel that he went out of his way to make sure I was correctly informed and wanted to do whatever he needed to correct the situation. I advised him my issue was found not to be a roof issue, but something else. I also indicated that when my husband and I decide to have our roof taken care of, we will definitely contact Runyon to give us an evaluation and estimate. I am satisfied that this matter is now resolved.

Sales rep was very professional and punctual for all appointments. We met twice and he gave a very professional presentation with a nice binder, video with photos of the roof etc. My impression was that this is a very professional company (family owned) that seemed like it would do a high quality job, but their estimated cost was ~ $5-10k over the 5 other estimates I got for the job. Sales guy made a great pitch for the extra cost, but since I was paying for it myself (not an insurance claim) I decided on the next company which was just as solid and saved me significant $.

Since our roof was over 20 years old, we had these done annually to assess if we needed to get a new roof. Each time, they came out and went over our roof and said it was in good shape and a new roof was not needed. We felt that they were honest in their analysis and did not try to sell us a product that we didn't need. We have since moved and when we moved the original roof was 25 years old and still in good shape.

Salesperson Greg was terrific. Knowledgeable and patient. A quality control person and a foreman visited prior to the job. Never saw the quality person again, not sure what happened to him. The foreman was thorough and I believed looked out for our best interest. I was put off when, after my first question, the crew leader said, "No problem." Always a red flag when I hear that. The crew was a bit rough, but hard workers. There was no slacking. I was disappointed with their lack of attention to protecting the rear deck which required some rail replacement and TLC after they left. Runyon replaced the rails...no argument. They were open to making sure I was 100% satisfied. I wasn't surprised, even though they actively "policed" around the house, that I had to do some of my own clean-up. Not a bad thing...they just don't see everything. Gutter guys were great...they spent almost 3 days and ugly weather to get things done. Maybe it would have been asking too much, but with the amount of money we spent, I was surprised we didn't receive a letter from Runyon or a call or visit from our salesperson thanking us for the business.

I have used Runyon and Sons in the past for another roof repair and gutter job, and was extremely happy with their service so I contacted them again. In this case, I had a few shingles come off from a thunderstorm (the company that put my roof on.. .not so good and out of business). I made the appointment, and in this case only a single individual was necessary. He arrived promptly, was dressed professionally, and went to work right away. The job probably took about an hour, and while he was up there he even did a quick gutter clean out for me. He also let me know about an additional issue that I might want to have looked at on my garage roof. Whenever, individuals ask me for a recommendation for roofers I tell them Runyon & Sons is the way to go.

We have been through a few winters and no leaks. No problems at all. Quite happy and no mess.

This is an amazingly professional company. After our experience with them I cannot imagine using another roofer. The insulation has made a huge difference in energy costs and comfort. They use an iPad to document/photograph every phase of the roof replacement. Each job has a foreman and on site supervisor. Each and every concern was promptly addressed. Plants were protected via scaffolding all around the house. Daily clean up meant that not one nail was found on the ground or driveway. They are expensive but you get what you pay for was never more true.

The appointment above was applied to the warrantee and there was no additional charge. I'm very happy with the results. I will call Runyon & Sons in the future for any roofing concerns.

They were prompt, efficient. The roof does not leak.

The crew was punctual every day. They protected bushes, etc. and combed the areas several times for nails and debris every day when they were finished for the day. The workmanship was stellar; the crew was polite and hard-working. A foreman checked the work when it was completed. I believe there were 2 checks. The GAF people also checked the roof after a couple of months to insure that all was done correctly.

We are new to this area and had a very bad experience with a recommended roofer. Our house was being damaged terribly by a late and incorrect roof installation with the worst yet to come so that by January, 2012, we had to find a new roofer. Runyon helped us out of very difficult situation. It was costly but worth it to have them do the work. Newcomers to this area should seek out roofers from large, reputable companies and visit their establishment beforehand. We were relying on our real estate person's recommendations when we ended up with the wrong roofer and lots of trouble.

It went great, they called to let me know when they would start, and if it was a good time. The crew kept me informed step by step even kept working in the rain..Even after the Store in July they came out and made sure everything was ok.

The roof looks great. The work was done promptly. They gave the best price out of all estimates received and gave me more for the money. They replaced the drip edge and were knowledgable in incorporating. They did a very good job for the price.

The work was great, but the cost was a little high.

They were on time, fixed things they broke (the roof decking was rotted and a roofer stepped through to our dining room, but they had someone come repair our ceilings. Roof looks nice, but belatedly, we had estimates about half the price for the same work.

I chose not to use Runyon Roofing as their price estimate was about twice the rate of the fair market price of comparable roofing companies in the area on Angie's list. While I have no doubt that they would do a satisfactory job, I could not afford to go with a project at twice the rate. However I do appreciate the time and professionalism displayed by all the associates.

They were just fabulous. They were punctual and their work ethic was outstanding. The quality of their work was excellent. They were very careful with the stuff that came off the roof. We have a 30 year guarantee. They get A's all the way through.

We have a tudor style home with a steep, difficult roof - lots of angles and valleys. We had begun to get leaks and knew we needed a replacement. We had several roofers decline to bid on the job and others who didn't show up for appointments. Two different roofers recommended that we try Runyon. We worked with Rick McIntire and are very pleased with their service and the results. Runyon was not the least expensive company but we decided that we wanted the job done right and are very happy. Last summer was so awful with rain delays that though we signed the contract in June, they were not able to actually start work until October! Waiting was fine because if we had a leak issue arise, their repair team was out very promptly and did whatever repairs were needed to keep us going until the roof work could start. The work crew, led by Victor, were great - they were timely and courteous and never left a mess. I had lived through a prior roof tear-off and expected a huge mess but it did not happen this time. Norm, the job supervisor, checked in regularly and always checked in with us about any questions. Any extra work needed, like replacing damaged roof decking, was discussed and approved in advance. Most impressive was the quality of their work - they took their time and made sure everything was well done. My husband who is an engineer and a bit of perfectionist, commented on their attention to detail. In short, they did a big, complicated job over several weeks with a minimum of disruption. They also did not let little details slip through the cracks. Several weeks after the job was done, Rick visited and walked through with us everything that had been done to make sure we were satisfied. We had a couple adjustments to suggest based on our experience with leaves and snow build-up - those adjustments were quickly completed. On one skylight the screen was damaged and they said they would order a new one - I never had to call them about it - they called me when it was available and Norm delivered it. This was a major expense for us but we now feel we have a roof we can be confident of for many years to come.

From the time the representative arrived to give us an estimate, until the final examination of the completed project, everything was excellent. The crew was polite, never left a mess, always cleaned up their own materials at the end of each work day, and it was about one week to complete the entire job. We were and are still completely satisfied with the job they did for us. No, they are not the cheapest roofers in town, but we have always believed that you usually get what you pay for. We did not want to skimp on something as crucial as the roof on our home. We are 100% satisfied with having chosen Runyon for our roofing needs, and would absolutely call them again, and recommend them to others.

The shingles were $26,000 but I needed additional work done. Tearing off the old roof was extra, replacing the gutters was extra, and fixing the rafters was extra; everything was an extra cost. I liked them and I thought that Greg did a wonderful job. He was probably the most thorough about looking at the roof, but the price was just too high.

They started on time and got the job done in one day. After the tear off they put on the ice guard and replace some OSB boards. They used nails to attach the shingles. When finished they did a excellent job cleaning up. After the working crew finished their supervisor came back to check their work. After about a week or two a man came from GAF (the material used) to see that the work was done properly. This person checks the work before before a warranty is issued. I said Runyon has the reputation of being the best roofer in Mentor Ohio. He said they are the best in Ohio. .

What I disliked was that I felt like I needed to pay attention to what they were doing and not doing. They did not explain things to me very well. The owner was very responsive and helpful but the job supervisor was not as helpful. I will use them again in the future.

I just called them for the first time to do a winter inspection. It was the first time I have needed any service since the roof was installed about 20 years ago ande I really didn't need service I just wanted to have it checked out, have some moss removed and align the gutters. They did every thing right, from the copper flashings to impeccable cleanup. 20 years ago they did not do thier own gurrer instalation. I have no idea if they do now.
