John quoted my mother (81yrs old) $400 to cut down three trees in her backyard, remove the debris, and grind the stumps. I arrived, talked to my mom, and then verified the quote with John. John said that his crew would cut the trees, but he had to leave with the grinder for another job and would return. Upon his return, I had gone out and bought everyone lunch (my wife had previously made bakery for his crew on another job, and I had donated a $250 near-new chainsaw to him for free (fearing I might risk self-injury). Anyway, when he returned, although the stumps weren't ground out yet, I paid him in full. He then said that he had to return the stumpgrinder to the rental place but would return later next week or two when he had a couple of jobs to do and grind them out. One week, two weeks...no John. I called him and he said that he would take care of it the following week. Week three, week four...no John. I called. His back was bothering him, but he would take care of it. Week five, week six, week seven...still no John. I called. He might have to have back surgery, but he could get one of his crew to do it. Week eight, week nine. I called. no answer. I called approximately six more times...all to voice mail with a request to call me back....no John. I called using a borrowed cell phone, went to voice mail, but I said I had trees to be cut. Returned my call in 2 minutes. I identified myself and asked about the stumps. He said that he would check into it and call me right back. Ha. Three days later I called again and got voice mail and left a message that I would wait to resolve this for two more days. Two days later...no call from John. I called again, using another borrowed cell phone and he answered immediately. When I identified myself, he hung up on me. I then contacted a reliable tree company and had the stumps ground out the next day.
