The estimate stated that pressure treated yellow pine was to be used in construction of the 18x14 deck. pressure treated yellow pine is a long lasting lumber and should have a long useful life. After about 7 years the wood started showing signs that it was rotting. I called Tim about this and did not ask for the wood to be replaced. I was merely hoping that he would offer to have a look at the deck. If suitable repairs were offered and made, we would have been willing to pay for them. Instead Tim offered an explanation that pressure treated wood is not as good as it used to be because arsenic is no longer used in the manufacturing process. He also stated that it does not have a long life. That was the extent of the conversation and no offer was made to do repair work. We did seal the wood with a high quality Cabot product. Today the deck is mostly unusable due to the number of boards that are rotted through. Our original plan was to take the flooring of the deck up and replace the boards with higher quality wood or some sort of composite decking. It now appears as if the joists are beginning to rot as well and more than likely the entire deck is going to need to be replaced. The deck is not even 10 years old. In a previous house that I lived in we had a wood deck that was over 25 years old and was in better condition than our deck was at 5 years old. This is unacceptable.

Tim did an excellent job.  Tim showed up when he said he would.  He worked very hard to make sure the job was done right but also promptly.  We were on a tight timeline, and the job was completed exactly when he said it would be.  Of the 3 people we had come out and give estimates, he was the only one that realized the HVAC would have to be moved before starting the project.  His attention to this detail helped us avoid extra unexpected costs that would have arisen had we used another contractor.
