Mike was professional during the estimate and let us know he had a several month wait to begin work. He began on the exact date promised and spent 2 weeks working on our cabinets (mostly at his shop). When he returned to reinstall the cabinet doors there was still wood showing in the edges/cracks and that bothered me. When I asked him about it he was defensive and rude and argued that it was the grain showing through. It was not until I persisted that he agreed to go back and touch up the cracks where wood was showing through. It looked better after that.
A couple of months later, the paint had cracked in the crevices on almost every cabinet door. When I called and asked Michael about it, he argued that it was just the grain showing through and there was nothing he could do. I communicated that I was unhappy with the result of his work and he told me that I was entitled to my opinion.
A month ago, I decided to try one more time before we paid someone else to repair it. I emailed updated photos to Michael Flood and he responded that he believed the caulk used in the crack was bad and said he could fix it. We set up an appointment for a few weeks out, he came to pick up the doors, repaired and re-installed them a week later. Four months later we finally have the results we were originally hoping for.
"Here at Columbus Cabinet Coatings we absolutely value your opinion, and would like to thank you for your review as it helps us to provide a better service in the future. Unfortunately, we feel as if there was a failure to communicate on our part, in this situation. If you recall during the estimate we described the process as follows. Step 1, remove all doors and drawer fronts. Step 2, using a mild detergent and water, clean and sand (all in one step). As long as the current coating is intact there is no need to remove it, so a sanding sponge or piece of sand paper is sufficient. Step 3, prime, using a bonding primer. Step 4, sand. Step 5, two coats of finish, paint designed specifically for cabinets. At this point it was mentioned that the paint will not eliminate the oak grain of your cabinets, but simply mask the grain. Step 6, reinstall doors and drawer fronts. As far as hardware goes, if you look at your invoice you'll notice that there is not a charge to install hardware. We stated that if you wanted to get new hardware we can install it for you, meaning, most people when having their cabinets painted opt for new hardware and it only makes sense that since we remove the old ones to go ahead a replace with new ones. Since the new hardware was unavailable while we were there to install the doors and drawers we couldn't install them. The wood showing in the edges and cracks that you refer to, is the oak grain, which, as we stated above and at the time of the estimate cannot be eliminated, only masked. The quality of the work that we provided you was no different then any other job that we've done prior to yours. So, upon your persistent request we agreed to do "touch ups" in an effort to provide the best customer service we can. Due to the fact that we followed each step exactly as we said we would and to which you agreed, we feel there is no further action we can take. Once again, thank you for your review as we'll definitely use this as a learning experience."
I found Michael to be very professional, knowledgeable and honest. He arrived on time and was very meticulous cleaning up after himself. I was originally going to paint the cabinets myself...but I watched a "how-to video" online and there were too many steps involved...so I called CCC. He explained the entire process to me when he gave me the estimate...and it was well worth the cost! And much cheaper than purchasing new cabinets. Our cabinets were nice, but they were wood laminated and looked dated. I had them painted white and they look fresh and up-to-date now thanks to Michael. I highly recommend Columbus Cabinet Coatings for this type of work! You won't be disappointed.
My only complaint is directed to Angie's List, as I had a VERY HARD time finding a vendor who painted cabinets! They list painters, but nothing this specific. I urge Angie's List to create a category just for this as I'm sure others have had the same experience.
"Thank you for your feedback and review! We're so happy we had the opportunity to serve you! We're sorry to hear how difficult it was to find us on Angie's List and hope that in the near future this problem can be resolved. Again, we appreciate your review and doing business with us! Thank you for supporting the local economy!"
"We're so happy you're enjoying your new looking cabinets and that we were able to help "save" a kitchen! Thank you for your business!"
"Thank you so much for your business! We enjoyed working with your family!"
We were provided with reminder calls a few days before the date of service. Mike was prompt on both dates, He was professional and friendly. He explained exactly what was going to happen and the amount of time needed.
We are so pleased with our cabinets and have had numerous compliments.
We are having him come back in January and paint both of our upstairs bathrooms.
Would highly recommend him!
"[Member Name], Thank you so much for your review! You've been a pleasure to work with and we look forward to January to further serve you! Thank you for investing in your local community! Michael & Sheila"
When I saw the color on the island that I'd chosen, it didn't go very well with my countertops and I mentioned it to him. He told me to just wait and see if I'd get used to it. I then contacted him two days later and asked if I could change the color out and he stated he just finished all the drawers and doors for the island the previous day so he would have to charge 50% more to just repaint the doors and drawers or 75% more of the original cost to repaint everything and I'd have to wait a month. He later offered 50% to repaint all of it but I'd still have to wait a month. With how much I paid in the first place and the schedule in which I wanted this done, this wouldn't work for me. I ended up repainting the bathroom cabinet and the island including all doors/drawers myself in less than 4 hours total.
Another slight issue is he paints quite a bit without taping or plastic. For the most part, he is very neat; however, I have dark brown flooring and the spray from the paint got on the floor. I mentioned this to him and he did scrape some of it off on a couple points but I still keep finding white paint spray here and there, especially in the grooves of the floor.
Overall, he is a good, dependable painter, but his fee is not in line with a good, dependable painter.
"Hello, Thank you for your honesty as it helps us to see areas in which we need to work on to provide better service to our customers! We are sincerely apologetic you did not have the experience you had hoped for but we do feel the need to clarify a few things. First, as we recall, repairs were never discussed but we are only a coating company, meaning we only do minor cosmetic repairs to cabinet surfaces as we prep for multiple steps in our process. We are beyond simply painting as we have an extensive process which is explained on our website and in person and the end result is a smooth sprayed finish on the doors and drawers. When choosing your colors you seemed very confident in your choices, so there seemed to be no need to second guess them. Unfortunately, when you mentioned you were unsure of the color, at that time that entire portion of the job was complete and would have to be refinished as if from the beginning. We apologize we could not do that immediately for you. A 50% discount was offered only because the prep work such as cleaning, priming and sanding was already completed so refinishing everything a second time would take about half the time because a few steps had been eliminated. For the paint mentioned on your floors, we always use drop clothes and are very careful to clean up but unfortunately we must've missed an area, and are more than willing to remove any left behind. Please feel free to contact us and we will make a visit to clean the area if needed. We believe our pricing is extremely reasonable and competitive. If you read our "About Us" page on our website our goal is to provide families with a great service that is budget friendly. Typically we are a fraction of the cost of many other options such as cabinet refacing or replacing. Again, we apologize that we were not able to meet your expectations as we like to please our customers and strive to do our best. Thank you, CCC Columbus Cabinet Coatings"
