I entered into a contract with BigCats, represented by Harry Knott, on February 7, 2017. Due to zoning issues, the city would not authorize construction until October, 2017. The original agreement called for $65,000 to be paid for the project, 1/3 at the start, 1/3 midway, and 1/3 at the completion of the project. $22,000 was initially paid, $10,000 at the signing of the agreement and another $12,000 the following month. In May, before the project had even started, BigCats asked for an additional $14,000. In September, they asked for an additional $5, 000, saying they needed the additional funds to ensure an October start date. In November, BigCats asked for an additional $7,500 so they could rent the excavator to dig the foundation. Again it was paid. Total paid now at $48,000. They did dig 3/4 of the hole needed for the foundation and stopped. They claimed illness and bad weather would prevent them from finishing the job. Watching rain fall, filling the hole, I became desperate and contacted Paykoff Inc. to finish the excavation and to pour the footings which they did. I had to pay them an additional $5,000. I was now out $53,000 due to BigCats inability to meet their commitments. January, February and March passes. In April, 2018 Gene Boston, also of BigCats, approaches me with a new contract, but now under the name of M&K General Contracting. The new contract is now for completing the foundation but at a price of $12,500. So now a second contract is presented for work that should have been part of the initial agreement. That was paid as well. Total investment at this point, $61,000. April now passes, as does May (concrete block was delivered). June arrives as does BigCats, however, the hole was filled with water and they quickly decided a pump was necessary to empty the hole. The pump arrived but no BigCats. As mid-June arrived, I contacted BigCats. They said they could come back on July 5th. In early July, I found that because BigCats had not laid the footers, they would have to reapply for insurance to cover the project. At this point I determined that BigCats would never be able to finish this project. So, in summary, I paid $61,000 over ten months for a hole in the ground. In addition, I was initially told by BigCats that the project would be done by the end of December, so I brought my 95 year old mother to Ohio to live with me. Due to the constant delays, I have had to rent a furnished apartment for $2000 a month, costing an additional $16,000 so far. $61,000 to BigCats + $5,000 to Paykoff for a job BigCats should have done and $16,000 spent on rent due to the inability of BigCats to meet their commitments. $82,000 wasted. So far BigCats has been reluctant to give back any of the funds.
