One of the big to-do list items when we bought our 1925 Colonial Revival home was to install air conditioning. After doing seemingly endless research on options, we landed on a high-velocity system as the solution. In addition to meeting the functional needs (efficient cooling, removing humidity, etc.), the design of the system is such that install does not disrupt the historic architecture of the home by removing the need for soffits/bulkheads and large air grates. 
With such a major investment and labor-intensive project, we vetted more than half a dozen potential vendors. After Jim from Efficient Heating and Cooling came for a free estimate, it was clear that he was our guy. Jim seemed to have the most experience, seemed most familiar with nuances and quirks of old houses and was by far the most friendly and receptive to our many questions. He really took the time explaining the process and details to us, and did so with zero condescension. It was a refreshing change of pace from some of the other potential vendors. 
Jim also appealed to us as he would personally oversee the entire installation, onsite each step of the way. Many of the other vendors had contractors come in, with site managers "checking in every now and again." 
Jim gave us a long list of references, and we touched based with three different households who had similar projects managed by Efficient and Jim. All the reviews were universally positive.
Jim and Efficient completed the installation of the Unico high-velocity air conditioning system as well as a new smart Honeywell thermostat that Jim recommend in May 2014. The install took about two weeks total, and Jim was incredibly tidy especially given the messy nature of navigating the complicated system of flexible tubes through existing wall spaces and crevices, as well as fitting the air handler in the attic crawl space. There was almost zero damage to any of the existing plaster, woodwork or other architectural elements in the house ? an amazing feat given the complex nature of the job. Jim was able to recommend a brilliant plaster specialist who made quick work of the two small areas that needed minor repair. We found a discrete space for the outdoor unit, too, and Jim was able to find a way to run the water line so it's not at all visible from the outside of the house, further helping to preserve the character of the home while adding modern convenience and comfort.
We were beyond pleased with the results! Aesthetically, the blend-in outlets in the ceiling are so subtle, you'd never really notice them - except of course for the glorious cold air coming from them when needed. There are no soffits or bulkheads, and guests are amazed that we have A/C in a 90-year-old home and always ask "But where are the ducts?!"
All throughout the project, communication with Jim was beyond excellent ? emails, texts and phone calls kept us in the loop at every step. That really meant a lot, and it's nice to have that level of comfort and accessibility with somebody you've entrusted with such a major investment.
Side note, but we were grateful for Jim's thermostat insight as we originally thought about a Nest, but were convinced otherwise, and we have more than a couple friends who've had problems with their Nest thermostats. We've been nothing but happy with our Honeywell.
Everything has worked flawlessly, and we enjoyed the cooling qualities all summer long.
Writing this review much after the fact, but we were so pleased with Jim's HVAC expertise, that we have hired him to manage our boiler maintenance and steam heat system. He was able to identify some necessary fixes this winter, and now in our second winter in the home, the heating is so much more efficient and our bills have benefited from Jim's fixes. 
I'll continue to turn to Jim for HVAC and related needs. Really great guy, and can't recommend highly enough!

They are very prompt.  They stick around until they fix the problem.

We were given an estimate the previous week.  Jim explained different furnaces.  Since we were replacing a 32 year old furnace we opted to purchase a 95% energy efficient two-stage furnace.   Jim came out to install on Nov. 21, 2013 and promptly went to work.  He was friendly and worked throughout the day. He kept us updated on what he was doing.  Completed by late afternoon.  Everything was clean and all other materials were removed.  He explained how to work thermostat.  Came back next day to complete the humidifier.  We are very pleased with his work and would highly recommend this company.

They were good, wonderful and accurate.  They did what they said they were going to do, and they did it on a timely manner.  Also, they were personable, neat and clean.  We got a referral from a friend of ours, who said that they they were good, and it turned out that they were right.  They came in and gave us an estimate.  We had a wonderful relationship with them!  Their price was probably equitable.  They got the same cost with other people as well.

I was on a limited budget, but Efficient Heating was very accommodating.

Quick and efficiently.  Arrive extremely promptly.  Diagnosed the problem and addressed each issue.

We obtained several estimates and so encountered many different salesmen. I immediately liked and felt comfortable with theirs. In addition, they also offered the best price and a good financing deal. The installer was friendly and professional and completed the job quickly and competently. Efficient lives up to its name.

It went very well. They were very punctual and courteous. I would definitely recommend them.

They are very prompt and friendly. We always are address by great service people. The owner has even come out to repair the furnace on Christmas day.

Even though our furnace is five years old, whether you speak to Andy, Jim or Jason they are always courteous. Ours are almost always maintenance calls, for which there is no charge, but the level of professionalism does not change and we have been very impressed by that. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone, based on our ongoing experience.

Overall experience was excellent. Would recommend. Not the cheapest price, but we expected a lot since they came on Christmas day.

THE GUYS THAT WORK FOR THEM ARE ALL SUPER NICE GUYS. THEIR PRICING IS VERY FAIR AND THEY ARE WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH.

THE TECHNICIAN WHO INSTALLED THE BASEBOARD HEATER TAPPED INTO THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT THAT HAD SUPPLIED THE FAN ON THE GAS FURNACE USING ROMAX CABLE (NOT ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY) INSTEAD OF ESTABLISHING A SEPARATE LINE COMING OFF THE MAIN POWER PANEL. THIS RESULTED IN THE CIRCUIT BLOWING A FUSE. WHEN I CALLED THEM, THEY CAME OUT PROMPTLY AND RE-DID THE INSTALLATION AS ORIGINALLY CONTRACTED FOR, THIS TIME USING METAL CONDUIT CABLE AND PULLING A PERMIT FROM THE CITY. THEY DID NOT CHARGE ANYTHING ADDITIONAL. THROUGHOUT THIS WHOLE PROCESS THE STAFF WERE ALL COURTEOUS, PROMPT, AND PLEASANT TO HAVE ON THE PROPERTY.

TECHNICIAN WAS VERY PLEASANT AND WILLING TO SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE OF FURNACES.

JIM RECOGNIZED THAT OVERSIZED SUPPLY DUCTWORK WOULD COMPROMISE THE LIFESPAN AND EFFICIENCY OF A NEW FURNACE AND EXPLAINED CLEARLY HOW THE SUPPLY TRUNK SHOULD FUNCTION. HE WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND THOROUGH IN ASSESSING OUR NEEDS AND MAKING A/C & FURNACE RECOMMENDATIONS. HE TOOK MEASUREMENTS, CLIMBED INTO THE ATTIC, AND EXAMINED WINDOWS TO GAUGE CORRECT SIZE FOR A/C UNIT. HE WAS FLEXIBLE AND WORKED WITHIN OUR TIMEFRAME TO COMPLETE THE JOB. VERY PLEASANT OFFICE STAFF ASSISTED IN SCHEDULING. THE COMPANY WAS PUNCTUAL, KEPT US APPRAISED OF WORK IN PROGRESS, AND UNEXPECTED DISCOVERIES, SUCH AS PLASTER IN AND ON DUCTS DATING TO THE HOMES CONSTRUCTION. CONSIDERING HOW MESSY THE PROJECT WAS WITH ALL THE PLASTER DUST, THEY DID A GOOD JOB OF CLEANING UP. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN DUCT CLEANING EQUIPMENT SO DID NOT NEED TO SUB-CONTRACT. CONSULTED WITH US AS WORK PROGRESSED SO THERE WERE NO UNPLEASANT SURPRISES. COURTEOUS WORK CREW. EXPLAINED HOW TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN NEWLY INSTALLED SYSTEM.

THIS COMPANY INSTALLED OUR HEATING AND A/C A YEAR AGO, AND DID A NICE JOB THEN. NOW, WHEN PREPARING OUR A/C FOR THE SUMMER, EVERYTHING WAS BOTCHED. WE HAD A 10 AM APPOINTMENT THAT THEY NEVER SHOWED UP FOR (I MISSED A MORNING OF WORK). THEN WE RESCHEDULED FOR 9 AM, AND THE SECRETARY SAID IT WOULD TAKE 30 MINUTES. THE TECHNICIAN CAME AND SAID IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 2 HOURS! AT 11:30, HE SAID THAT HE FORGOT TO BRING ENOUGH REFRIGERANT! (ANOTHER MORNING OF WORK MISSED). FINALLY, ON DAY #3 (AND ANOTHER 2 HOURS), THE JOB WAS COMPLETED (ANOTHER MORNING OF WORK MISSED, ALL TO GET MY A/C RUNNING). I WILL NOT USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

CAME OUT ON 10/23/03 AN DID FURNACE CHECK. I WAS TOLD UP FRONT THAT THEY WERE BOOKED FOR TWO WEEKS WHICH WAS FINE. ON 11/13/03 CAME AND REPLACED THE HUMIDIFIER. PRICE WAS GOOD AND SEEMED TO BE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. I GAVE A B FOR THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE BECAUSE HE WAS NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE CONTROL PANEL. HE JUST ASSUMED THAT WE DID NOT WANT A NEW ONE. HE DID REPLACE IT AFTER WE MENTIONED WE WANTED IT REPLACED.

WE HAD NO HEAT IN THE COLD WEATHER. THEY PUT A FURNACE IN THE NEXT DAY.

BILL BURTON THE TECHNICIAN DID A GREAT JOB OF SETTING UP THE WORK AND THE INSTALLERS DID A GREAT JOB. THEY CORRECTED OLD CODE PROBLEMS AND LEFT THE AREA VERY CLEAN. THERE WAS A LITTLE CONFUSION ONCE OR TWICE AS FAR AS THE ESTIMATE WENT, BUT THEY WERE VERY MINOR AND CORRECTED RIGHT AWAY.
