We have depended on Van Stein Construction to do all our home improvements over the past 35 years. Van is always dependable and always patient with any last minute changes. He is a master carpenter who takes pride in his work. Van and his crew do not cut corners and the job is always done right. If you want it done right, call Van.

Most work was done extremely well, with great care and in an orderly and clean fashion. What didn't go very well at all was the wall tile subcontractor who rushed through their work and did a very uneven job in many areas. Ends and edges meeting with up to a 1/8" mismatch or more. The walls were brand new, so very flat, as our old bath was stripped down to the studs. In addition, I had the tile vendor check our same tiles for flatness and they all were. Small tiles were fixed by Stein, but the large tiles couldn't be all redone, so Van and I agreed on a 3.5% reduction ($800) during my final payment. At the time, he said nothing about this compensation for less than professional tile work (which we have to look at every day) voiding our 3 year warranty. Well, the new faucet that they installed is leaking for a number of months, and I'm told that there is no warranty on our bathroom now because of the adjustment for bad tile work. Bad form. Get it all in writing.

We’ve hired Stein Construction for multiple projects at our home (several bathroom and laundry room renovations), but the most recent project was to cover our front porch. Van and his team are wonderful to work with. Van provides fair estimates, schematic drawings of what he is proposing, and careful and thorough discussion of alternatives. He is very prompt in his communication, and they show up to work daily until the job is finished. Kept the work area clean at all times. Very Bad. I fired him and had to have most of the work redone. He is easily confused. My HVAC man said what they put over the drywall - styrofoam. I was told I was lucky that they didn't burn the house down. They broke the lock on my patio door. The drywall was not finished. The wonderboard had to be taken out and replaced because it was so horribly misaligned - crooked and big gaps. If want have unlimited funds and patience - go with this group..otherwise run away...

"I know there were 4 contractors that tried to help you on your project, my company did an excellent job for you. Everything would have turned out perfectly and beautifully as all of our jobs. However there is still a balance you owe to me of $2,500.00 for the work we did a year ago. I will gladly come back to help you finish your project, please let me finish it completely-you'll be very happy with the finish product. We give an three year warranty on all of our work. As far as that return-there were existing styrofoam panels previously there so we just matched existing-I spoke with my HVAC guy and he assured me everything would be completely safe. Van's work is excellent and he is a top quality contractor. The top reason for my satisfaction is his attention to detail and his commitment to quality work. He managed the process in detail and ensured that all work was up to his high standards. He also is very creative in his problem solving. We had several unique constraints in our project and he worked with us to find unique solutions to our problems, not cookie cutter answers. All of the work was done on time and matched our contracted agreement perfectly. We did not have any unexpected cost overruns. All changes to the original contract were by mutual consent and were at our request. If you are interested in top of the line construction, look no further.

First let me say the 4 star rating on price was in part of the major increase in building materials at the time of construction. Van and Dan were very easy to work with, their workmanship was nothing but professional, and the quality was top notch. They arrived when they said they would, which was a big plus. They listened to our needs and gave back great suggestions. All in all we are very pleased with our room and Van Stein Construction. We have no problem recommending them for home improvements.

After interviewing three contractors, it was clear to me that Mr. Stein and his construction company was the perfect fit to build a screen porch in my back yard. Van listened to my ideas, and his design was exactly the picture I had in mind. Throughout the course of the construction, Van was very professional. He was on the job site often, and stayed constantly in touch via emails or text messages. His team did an outstanding job. The attention to details, the workmanship, and the professionalism of every single subcontractor were remarkable. I highly recommend working with Van and his company. He is a perfectionist, and so are the people working with him. I not only have a screen porch in my back yard, I also have a Work of Art!

Van Stein and his company did an outstanding job for us. The stairs being replaced were probably original (100+ years). Steep, narrow and scary. Van worked with us and other professionals to design a set of safe and effective stairs given the many constraints in an old house. His team came daily, worked diligently and efficiently, and cleaned up every day. Absolutely highest regard for their workmanship and professionalism. Van was always communicative about the steps in the process, when different workers would be coming, etc. Very easy to work with.

We hired Van Stein for a bathroom remodel project. It's a small bathroom, and needed a complete renovation. We also added a second shower in the basement, replaced the main plumbing stack and reconfigured the electric in our laundry room. Van and his team did excellent work, were always responsive to our questions or needs, and walked us through any complications or unforeseen issues (our house was built in the mid-1950s). The cost was higher than anticipated, but overall, we would recommend them for remodeling work.

They completely gutted our Master Bath, which is a regular-sized bathroom. It was ugly and out-dated. They removed the tub and put in a beautiful tile walk-in shower. They removed the old vinyl floor and tiled the floor and halfway up the walls. A new toilet, sink & cabinet, and all new lighting were put in, as well as a pocket door entry to the bathroom. They turned a wide, open hallway into another closet for the Master, added a door to another room and a closet for that room too. They were punctual, always kept us informed about who would be there and when, and generally kept in close contact with us throughout the whole 6 weeks of the project. Some of the subcontractors were better than others, but we were satisfied with the work overall, and especially the end result. Van understood what we were trying to achieve from the first meeting, had sketches within a day or so, and a price estimate soon after. Van’s right-hand man, Dan, was also wonderful! He was friendly, meticulous, and kept an eye on the subs to keep the job moving along. We would definitely recommend Van Stein Construction.

Our project was to knock down a wall to expand and completely remodel our master bathroom, and then to build a closet by enclosing space from an adjacent room. Van's team did a great job working through the project methodically. The team were all very professional and friendly. The project's toughest challenge was advancing the project while waiting for special ordered items to be delivered. Van and his team did a great job of maximizing the team's efficiency while coordinating the delivery of the objects. Van was always very forthcoming with updates, including any bad news and what we could do to mitigate any setbacks.

Mr. Stein and his crew did great job remodeling our master bathroom. He is very professional and does excellent work. We were always informed about the progress and next steps. After the end of workday, they cleaned up the construction site keeping the second floor clean. It was really nice and easy to work with his company. Bathrooms were remodeled beautifully. Extra work had to be done on the flooring in two where the toilets had leaked. The half bath was totally reworked and looks 1000 times better. Van had really good ideas for everything. Then we decided to have the wall between the family room and dining room knocked down. So HVAC and electrical work had to be done. Tile floors were added to the kitchen, laundry room and foyer. Lighting was added in the ceilings and new blinds and curtains were installed. I'm sure there were a lot more things done, and we were more than pleased with the results. It looks like a new home. Van and the other workers were easy to work with and became friends that you were comfortable having in your home. It was a great experience!

Van Stein is the utmost professional. In advance of the project, he took the time to come to my home and get an idea of the project scope and my personal preferences. He provided me different options in various price ranges and worked with me to ensure my choices would be within budget. Guided me in selecting tile, paint, countertop, etc. After the project work began, Van did an outstanding job keeping me advised and informed of progress and next steps. Van outlined the plan and kept to his schedule. He and his crew did a great job accommodating my families schedule. The stages of the job were completed on time and at the end of each workday the areas were cleaned, swept and vacuumed which was a huge help in keeping other areas of our home relatively dust free. The finished product met all my expectations! There were no surprises during the construction. Van kept me informed throughout.

Really well. The bathrooms look amazing! The crew was always on time, kept a clean worksite every day and were very nice and easy to work with. We had a couple communication issues, which were worked out with no problem. (I would recommend a digital or physical job board that has all the information On it so that nothing falls through the cracks.) Van has come back to the house to repair a few cracks that were created during the demolition process that we didn’t notice until they finished the job. As he says, satisfaction guaranteed and we were very satisfied! We would hire them again and would recommend them to friends too.

Van Stein and his team performed excellent professional grade work. Planning Quality and safety were key to the selection of Van Stein and his team. They worked with engineering to come up with detailed plans that reassured my family of sound construction and structural integrity of the home was maintained - their attention to detail and communication throughout the planning phase was unmatched to the other bidders. Professional Execution Actual work performed was very professional and thorough. The house was maintained very clean at all times, which was important to us with a small family of young ones around. The work was very well planned and executed to plans. Last minute adjustments were accommodated. We have a small family and the team was very courteous and hard working. Van quickly responded to the initial inquiry and was at home within 48hrs for the initial meeting. He quickly turned around a design that included the existing floor-plan and 2 remodel floor-plan options.
