General Remodeling
Ray Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Construction has been our general contractor for two remodeling projects and is about to start the third. These two projects were done after another significant project by another general contractor. That one had issues so we wanted to start small with Fitzgerald Construction.
The first project with Fitzgerald Construction was the upstairs bathroom (not the master bath). The bathroom was gutted and everything replaced. Ray estimated the project, coordinated all the subs, organized the project, paid the subs and got affidavits, worked adjustments that we needed during the project and completed the project without issue. The project was within budget and timely. Ray is very easy to work with and his recommendations are solid. He charges a fixed percent of the project as a management fee. He is a working manager and participates in much of the work. He is onsite almost every day supervising the project. We were delighted with the result.
Encouraged by this result, we asked Ray to help us remodel the back of the house in order to prepare for my father-in-law to move into our home. This was a significant remodeling project extending the back of the house including the basement, adding an apartment, remodeling the downstairs bathroom, adding a mud room and a family room. Ray suggested an architect who did a fantastic job of designing the addition. As you can imagine this was a big project that took approximately 9 months. Once again, Ray executed the project very well. We had one issue with materials for the back deck (multiple color lots). Ray helped us work through it and reinstalled some of the deck to solve the problem. When there were issues with the local officials concerning some minor construction approaches he worked them to conclusion constructively (he needed the architect but unfortunately he had passed). After the construction was complete, there were minor adjustments that were found and he came back to correct them. We have been delighted with this project.
We are about to embark on our next project (the kitchen) and we expect it to go well. He has been working with the designer and she says he is easy to work with.
