We go there all the time. They're great! They are very nice, they follow up and make sure you have what you need.

They were pretty expensive so I went to Monroe Family Pets.  I wanted to get my dogs teeth cleaned and they wanted $400.  So I called the one that my daughter uses and it was $200 so I went with them.

"It was nice to see that you returned to us later in July. I trust that our doctors' and employees' commitment to high quality care has proven to be worth the money. Thank you for coming back."

We found a 20 lb dog along the road in obvious pain. Couldn't walk. Took him to Liberty Vet thinking we could trust them to give quality care. Even said we were willing to "help" cover fees to get him looked over since the shelter did not open for another 4 hours. They sent us away, too busy. After trying to call several shelters, other options and the dog seeming more miserable, went back to our vet and said we would pay them, but please look at what he needs to relieve pain. They did a basic set of xrays and some pain meds and proceeded to charge us $200. Told us he had a minimal hip injury that would just require crate rest.. "Nothing that will cost any money, no surgery. Just rest. Likely due to minor car incident." When we asked if they could give him some basic worm test, rabies shot, before we took him to shelter, they said it would be another $150! That they have no "agreements" in place to do any discounting for stray or injured dogs. Mind you, we have spent thousands and thousands of $ with them over the years, but they could not afford to give a discount to help be compassionate for a stray, injured dog? It gets worse. We take the 1 year old pup to the shelter right then and they know immediately there is more wrong than a minor hip injury. Dog is panting and not breathing well and clearly in a lot of pain even on pain pills. The wonderful people at the shelter take him anyway and tell us they will let us know what a vet they trust tells them. Bottom line, the dog ended up in emergency care overnight, has multiple hip fractures, needs surgery, needed a catheter, had chest contusions and air trapped requiring chest tube to alleviate breathing problems, and is still in ICU. And we gave Liberty $200 for the "care" they provided and almost just kept him overnight to give him "crate rest". We would have had a dead dog in the crate! Went today to discuss and the vet who gave the "care" is not available for at least a week. Heartbreaking to see that sick or injured animals are not treated with compassion, even if a current customer is the one asking for help! We will no longer be risking the health of our other dogs at Liberty Vet.
Response from Liberty Veterinary Hospital
"We apologize that you felt so negatively about the interactions with us regarding the stray dog that was found. Our goal is to offer excellent care to all the patients we see, and the overwhelming majority of positive reviews here seems to suggest we are successful in our effort. I feel it is necessary, however, to clarify a few aspects of this review. Our client pointed out that we were "too busy" to examine the stray dog when they first came in. What is not pointed out is why. We told the client when he arrived (without notice) that the doctor on duty was in the middle of surgery at the time, and could not leave the anesthetized patient. Since we were unable to immediately assist, we suggested taking the stray either to an emergency facility (which we are not), or to an animal shelter where the stray's owner might be able to find him. We pointed out that a specific local shelter has a vet on staff that might be able to examine the stray before we would be able to. The review mentions the topic of cost and money several times. At the time the stray was initially presented, there was no labored breathing, and our client commented that the dog did not appear to be in pain; the dog just couldn't walk. We diagnose and treat patients based on their current conditions, which might change over the course of a day. If we were a clinic that only cared about money, we would not have suggested taking the stray to another clinic or a shelter in the first place, and we would not have given them a free exam (which we did). Contrary to the client's claim, we did offer a good Samaritan discount for vaccines and parasite testing. It just wasn't as large of a discount as the client desired. When the client came in the following day to express his unhappiness over the situation, he requested that we refund his money and donate it to the shelter where they took the stray the prior night. Our doctor agreed to this as an offer of good will as soon as she heard the request. Donating to this shelter also does not coincide with a clinic that only cares about money. We appreciate the praise our client has given us in her review regarding our cleanliness, care, and attentiveness over the many years her family has relied on us for their pets' care. It is a shame that this one misunderstanding would so quickly end their trust."
