Used Honthy in 2014 for a french drain and downspout pipes at a house with past water problems. Price was better than waterproofing companies, the work was done quickly, and 6 years later there have been no water problems. Will definitely use again.

AWESOME! This is the second time ive used Joes service. He was quick to provide a quote, and quick to get the job completed. I havent seen a better work ethic in a contractor for a long time(I've refurbished 3 homes and used 50+contractors), he even worked in the rain for 2 days. I was also very impressed with his concerned with many of the complications that our job presented. We had multiple runs of electric, cable and water runs that serviced my pool. And in every case, he hand dug the trench to ensure my life wasnt complicated. Finally, I don't leave feedback on angies contractors, but this job went so well, i had to make an exception. THANKS JOE!

Joe stopped by and provided an estimate which was better than a competitive bid.
We agreed to proceed and scheduling was about 10 days out.  He kept to that schedule.
He ran the trench and replaced the line in about 3 hours one evening.  He finished the job the following evening.
He was pleasant and punctual.

Happy with the outcome and cost. It took awhile to get around to doing the job hence the C rating for responsiveness, but we were not in a hurry so that was ok. We will definitely call him again if we ever need to hire someone to dig a trench. We recommend.

Joe Honthy was very polite and professional. He had two young college students assist him with the project and they were the same.

Everything went great - It was actually raining pretty good on the day that Joe came out - He didn't care - he went right to work - it took about 45 minutes to find the backup - tree root had maneuvered between two fittings and the roots spread out in the piping and caused a total backup - the piping probably goes about 2/3's of an acre so it is a pretty lengthy pipe that runs the perimeter of the yard

Joe didn't have all of the materials to do the job correctly - came back two days later and put some pieces back in place so that the water could drain from the curtain drain all the way down to the culvert at the end of my driveway - put a couple of fittings that will help us tell next time exactly where the backup is - all in all a very professional job

Joe is a great guy that does great work - he initially put the curtain drain in and charged a very reasonable price - he has a great personality and he is a hard worker that charges a fair price

highly recommend

What a worker Joe is!  In spite of ridiculous cold and snow, Joe completed the job at the agreed price as quickly as the weather allowed.  Result is excellent.

The project was completed and the work was of very good quality. Had to work around the weather but I am very satisfied with the work, and the price. I would not hesitate to use this company again.

I was extremely pleased to find Mr. Honthy who could provide quality services at a tremendous value compared to other contractors.  I received 3 bids that ranged from 50 to over 100% the bid by Mr. Honthy. Now, there is a reason why he can do this at such a reasonable price, and Mr. Honthy ensured from the beginning that we have reasonable expectations.  First and foremost, he has another full time job as a school teacher and does this on the afternoons and weekends (save Sundays).  Therefore, he has a wait at times and larger jobs (like mine) can stretch out over a week.  However, he has been doing this work for over 20 years and owns most of his own equipment. Second, starting the work is very much dependent on the weather (can't do when ground is sopping wet or frozen), so if there is a long string of rain, it can delay jobs.  So we saw this as a desirable trade off.  We had no trouble being flexible around the work start date or how long it took, and therefore we were able to get this quality work done at a tremendous value.  There are a number of other advantages of working with Mr. Honthy.  First, he essentially does all the work himself - that way you know there are no subs or temporary laborers that might cut corners.  Second, he is meticulous and takes pride in getting it down right - analyzing the grading multiple times along each run, using the proper quality PVC pipe, gluing all the connections thoroughly, and making sure the connections to the downspout all appear clean and straight.  Third, he is clearly an honest, ethical, friendly guy who is a pleasure to have around the house.
My house was a really big job to handle the drainage around a 3000 sf ranch home (a lot of roof) requiring four long runs of PVC. There was a little delay getting started due to rain, but his wife who runs the office of the business was very communicative.  The job took longer than he expected I think and to make sure he completed it within the week he started, he worked into the night on a Saturday with large spot lights.  Prior to getting this work done, our basement sump pump ran constantly, even when it hadn't rained in weeks. Now we only hear it go off only occasionally - which is incredibly reassuring.
In summary, I highly recommend Mr. Honthy if you can be flexible with your start date, and don't mind it taking a little longer.  In the end, the job will be done right or better at a much lower price than many competitors.

It is difficult to get an appt because the owner is a teacher and the wife has many children; she handles the appointments. Eventually I did get a quote, but because the owner doesn't keep notes, he doesn't remember what he quotes or says. We agreed on a price and he eventually got the work done. It took awhile (6 weeks?) because he had other clients ahead of me and there were also weather issues. I had my basement waterproofed right after this and the owner of the waterproofing company told me the trench was not done correctly as it was pitched wrong. I don't know if that is true or not, but I did have Honthy come back and he said if I removed all the rocks from the trench he would come and bring more and fill it up as the rocks seem to be disappearing, perhaps pushed in by the workers' footsteps from the waterproof company? So I cleared out the rocks, saw the pitch of the trench was going the wrong way, took a picture, and sent it to Mrs. Honthy. After a number of calls he came out (maybe again 6 weeks later)? He did the trench again. He doesn't understand why the pitch was wrong because he uses a laser; I don't understand why he is so unresponsive and seemingly overwhelmed? He wondered if he should give up teaching and just do the trenching company... I don't know, but I do know that doing both seems to overwhelm their family. Nice and honest people, if you have the patience, I think you can trust them. My patience does have a limit though.

They were excellent.  He?s a very professional man.  He did an excellent job.  He did a good job on the trenching of our gutters and pipes.

There was just one thing, we requested some paper work but we never got it.  But as far as the work, I will have him back again and I will recommend him to people.

He is a very professional worker and he delivers what he says he is going to.  He is very reasonable with his price.

I had other estimates and they were high.

He made sure that we were happy and satisfied with his work.  He came out and checked the work himself.

Really well.  Joe and a couple of other workers did all the work in about 3-4 hours one Saturday morning.  Took a while to get scheduled, but Joe does this work on the side since he's a teacher by day.  It was worth the wait.  Will call again in the future if we have any other drainage issues.  They left the spots where they did the work clean.

Joe was very professional. He came out in a very timely manner and gave us a bid to fix a portion of our yard that had standing water. His wife Lori followed up to let us know when the work could be preformed. They put in drainage pipes and solved the problem. Great work!

work was done in a timely manner and professional. the only problem i had was that i was not able to be home when work was performed and he had forgot some of the things we had talked about and seemed to make things harder for himself.

Mr. Honthy came out to estimate the job and provide suggestions. His estimate was very competitive for the size of the job. We agreed on the price, and targeted a completion date which was somewhat open based on the weather and temperature. As soon as the weather was appropriate (snow, moisture in the soil, and temperature of the soil), Mr. Honthy called and scheduled the work. He had all the right equipment, and began work in the morning as scheduled. He dug several trenches with his trenching machine, and completed some of the work manually.  After completing the work, the dirt was cleaned up, and the drainage problem was solved.
Mr. Honthy was very well qualified, and did a high quality job. I would recommend him, and will definitely use his services if I need additional work completed.

Mr. Honthy came out and provided an estimate on-the-spot; no waiting around for an estimate to be worked up over several days. Once I decided to proceed with the work, it did become rather difficult to connect with him to schedule it. However, his wife (who handles all of his job scheduling) had been experiencing various medical problems over a multiple-week span, so I don't want to hold it against them. It would have been great if they'd had a backup plan or at least tried to communicate more frequently just to let customers know of the situation; but again, they are a small family-run outfit and I want to be sensitive to the fact that these kinds of emergencies have to take priority.
Anyway, once the work was scheduled, he arrived on time and worked hard (by himself) for a very long, hot day and got the work done as planned. He warned me in advance that there was a possibility he'd hit my sprinkler lines, which did happen, as there was no way to know exactly where they ran; but he was prepared to repair those at a reasonable cost.
He is a very nice, hardworking guy, and did a fine job. And his method was much less invasive, and much lower cost, than the other estimate I obtained.

There were roots going into our sump pump. He installed a drain to rerout that since it was causing water to come into our basement. Also this was to help with draining issues in the yard. His work was great we've had no more issues. He is a very honest man with an incredible work ethic. He likes to make sure that things are done right. He was by far the best price.

We had Joe and his brother dig a 370 foot trench to be able to lay internet/TV cable from the street to our home, which is set back quite a way. They did a great job, despite hitting a heck of a lot more rocks than anyone expected. Would highly recommend them if you need excavating.
