The floors look fine, I do not have any problems with that. However, Kapsalis Flooring did not complete the furniture moving portion which was part of the contracted job. The floors were completed in November of 2016 and most of the furniture was moved back in place by the end of December, 2016. Mr. Kapsalis and his co-worker purposely did not move back one large piece, explaining that he wanted to do it later. I was very patient in trying to work with his schedule to get this done, but ultimately Kapsalis Flooring would not commit to it. I repeatedly contacted him regarding this--first getting the run around--then silence. As of January 15, 2017, he refused to respond to my messages at all, leaving this job incomplete with no communication whatsoever. Two months later, they put me in the position of having to find and pay somebody else to finish what I already paid him to do. I consider this to be unprofessional and would not recommend this company as they are clearly unwilling to finish an agreed upon contracted job, yet very willing to take the money.

It went perfectly. Mike and his crew showed up as scheduled and finished within the estimated time frame. The floors look amazingly great. I felt Mike gave us a fair price. We own other properties in Lakewood and he will be our floor refinishing guy for any future jobs.

our original hardwood finisher had a family emergency and recommended Kapsalis. This craftsman adjusted his schedule to get our hardwood floors sanded down to the natural wood, then put 3 coats of clear Urethane over the area over about 5-6 days. Mike Kapsalis was present , precisely on time and working with his 1 or 2 person crew each day.
During the first 2 days, the workers created minimal dust with a scant amount on shelves and ledges(we took down curtains beforehand). our 1200 square foot job used 5 garbage bags full of sanded, pre-stained old surface hardwood which were placed by the outside refuse container.
Mike did a walk through before starting the work and immediately noticed no subflooring on the first floor. He instructed us to cover or protect any objects of value(stored items, boiler, tools, etc.) in the basement as the Urethane could drip through the tongue and grove oak flooring. Also, due to the use of the oil-based Urethane, there was a very pungent oder during the first few days and week which really takes several weeks to fade completely. A good time to test out how close and willing your near relatives and friends are to take on borders for at least a week or more for things to air out (summertime less of course).
Mike Kapsalis, the owner, kept in constant communication and encouraged us to stop by(we had yet to move in) and check out his work. He called us several times a day and encouraged us to return his calls (I believe to make sure we were satisfied with the job in progress, In prepping for the job Mike did issue several warnings on what to expect. #1: He recommended and used the oil based Urethane sealer (3 coats) with a Satin finish (not Gloss). He stated the Satin just looks better than Gloss and hides stains and scratches far better than Gloss. We had the Urethane applied over the now exposed natural wood with the Satin finish. Although we are used to the very Glossy floors in many hardwood floors we have seen, this Satin finish, though somewhat flat, it really has a very natural appearance, a cinch to clean and we were very satisfied with the outcome.

Beautiful results. I hired Mike in 2009 to refinish the ground level flooring of our 1938 house. Based on that experience, I did not hesitate to call on him this year when I was ready to do the rest of the house. Mike's dependable and easy to work with. He leaves no mess doing what could be a pretty dirty task, and the floors just glow when he's done.

Mike was fabulous to work with from the time of our initial contact throughout the entire job. He came to my home for an estimate and I was so impressed I did not seek any other estimates. The floors were an original honey oak with carpet for over 35 years and the nail holes are not visible at all after completion. We chose a darker wood stain " medium brown" and the floors are absolutely beautiful. Mike checked in with me after the initial staining to see if I was satisfied which was very professional and kept in touch throughout the job. Would highly recommend Kapsalis Flooring and would use again in the future.

I called Mike and left a message for him to call me. Within the hour he returned my call. He answered my questions. I gave him the measurements of the rooms and he gave me a quote. He came over that evening to look over the floors. He was able to start on the floors the following week (which worked out great for me). Mike called me the night before to see if he could start at 7:30a.m. the next morning. My schedule did not allow me to be home when they were working on the floor. Mike called me after they started working to keep me informed of what they were doing. He called me late that afternoon to inform me that they have sanded both rooms and have put a natural stain on the floors . Also he informed me that we were not able to walk on the floors for 2 to 3 hours. He called me later that evening to see what I thought of the floors. My husband and I both liked the looks of the floors. Mike asked if they could come back at 7:45 a.m. the next morning and start to put the polyurathane 1st coat on. At 7:45a.m. work was being started on the floors. Another coat was put on around 10:00a.m. The final coat was put on at 2:00p.m. Mike informed us not to walk on it for about 4 hours. He also told us not to put furniture back for 48 hrs and no area rugs for 10 days.
I was very pleased with Mike's work. They left the house neat like they found it. And there was sanding done but there is no trace of dust particles anywhere. I liked that Mike kept me informed on what they were doing throughout the day. if you need floors sanded I recomend Mike Kapasalis very hightly . He gets an A in my books.

It has been one year and the floors are terrible. The floors seem to not have a finish that protects them. I am soo frustrated. Out of all the people I chose Mike. I could have gotten a better quality finish/protector by choosing someone else. Now, I will have to pay another hearty amount to have them done correctly.

Mike and John were efficient, quick and very neat. The floor looks absolutely fabulous. We've been in the house for 9 years and wonder why we didn't have the floor done before now. We are more than pleased with the floor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kapsalis flooring to anyone.

Mike provided a quality service at a reasonable price. He was a little late for the estimate appointment and created a bit of confusion when he gave me drying time requirements for oil finishing when we talked about water base finishing, which ended up increasing the price by $100. It was still a competitive price and a seemingly honest mistake. Floors looked very good. There were small black lumps left by the sander or roller, but I am probably the only one who noticed them. Rather than call him back I just removed them with a putty knife. He did not address the water marks that were revealed when he sanded the hundred year old floor, that I learned later might have been removed with clorox before the finish was applied. He did provide me with extra finish for any scuff marks that might occur which was helpful. He cleaned up well though his assistant was a little careless. He seemed like a very nice man who works hard to give you a beautiful floor and answered my many questions very professionally. I would definitely hire him again.

Mike ended up becoming very short, angry, and volatile towards me my mom and the other contractors in our home. His inability to coordinate time to work on this project is what led to his anger. He demanded everyone to be out of the house for 10 days while he complete his portion of the work and was extremely inflexible about this request. Finally we found his actual work to be lacking in quality due to a boot print left by one of his workers (which over the phone promised to fix stating it was from his worker) as well as the finish (which i was told is the best you could purchase also much more expensive!) peeling off in areas. I have spoken with Mike, owner, and he argued and yelled then hung up on me. I called his distributor to complIn he came out to the house and told me he should fix these problems. He made it seem like he did. Of use the appropriate amount of finish for our square footage. When I brought this to Mikes attention he became very angry, yelling that he's not fixing anything and if I don't like it to take him to court. His promise to make good and honor is warranty has been unfulfilled and has yet to be fixed since April 2009.
Response from KAPSALIS HARDWOOD FLOORING
"I Mike Kapsalis owner of Kapsalis Hardwood Floors take great pride in my work. The comments and desired resolution from this customer have come as a complete shock to me. The report she has written is inaccurate and not a true retelling of the job or how it was done. The member stated I was angry, inflexible and demanded that everyone needed to be out of the house for 10 days. I was not angry but I did say I needed everyone to stay off the floors for 10 days total and that it should be the last thing to be worked on in the house. She was non-negotiable about this and as a result I had to complete this job while demolition, construction and interior painting were taking place. The day I was to start this job the house was not ready. It was supposed to be empty but instead there was furniture in every room. Though it was not part of the agreed contract my worker, the painter and I helped move some of the furniture. Between this and having to work around everything else going on in the house it was impossible to stay on schedule. Understanding how important is was to the customer to have the floors done on time I brought in another hardwood floor company to help complete this job on time. Upon completion the member was happy and said, “The floors are perfect”. She was reminded that the floors would need at least 72 hours to cure and because of the work still going on in the house she was told not to tape off anything to the floors. She did not follow these instructions and began moving things in the very next day. Approximately two weeks later I received a call from her who said that the floors were peeling. I went to the house and saw tape on the floor in the doorways. The peeling was due to tape being stuck on the floors which had not been given the proper amount of time to cure. My distributor who had been called to the house also looked at the job. He never said that I should fix anything. He told the member the floors looked nice and it was a job well done. It has always been my goal weather it is a customer from referrals, Angie’s List, or the Yellow Pages, big or small job to make people happy by doing the best job possible. This is evident by reading all of the other Angie’s List reports from my customers. Angie’s List has been provided letters written by the distributor and another contractor who worked at the house, both of which state what this customer has posted is untrue. As a result, I am requesting that her report be removed from Angie’s List."

Mike came in to estimate and gave us a fair price so we hired him. He first replaced the burned boards in our old house and did a wonderful job. Then he sanded and refinished two rooms and a hall for us. The floors looked great when he was done.

Mike did a great job. The removal of the old tile and cement was more difficult than he thought and the repairs by the closets in the master bedroom also were more difficult. Mike kept me informed of every step of the way. I was out of town and he took picures and emailed them to me. We discussed the charges and he did only what I asked. I couldn't be more pleased the floors are beautiful and you cannot tell where the repairs were done. It took time and effort for him to do such a careful job. It shows his skill.

Mike did a wonderful job. He gave me an estimate over the phone and showed up the next day to do the job. When he saw the job, he lowered the estimate that I already agreed to over the phone. While here, he explained what he was doing and gave great advice for my future home improvements. He called after the job was completed to make sure I was satisfied. I would highly recommend him.

Extremely well. Floor was in very rough shape, scraped bare in some places, discolored, spotted, minor damage. Mike and his assistant, Steve, showed up precisely on time and worked very efficiently. Their rapport is strongly evident. Prep and first coat were completed on the first day; Mike returned on the second and third days to complete the job. Floor looks like new now. I'm considering refinishing my upstairs floors also, and will hire Mike if I do.

Mike was nothing short of spectacular. He met with me for an estimate within 24 hours of my first inquiry and his estimate was lower than any of the other contractors I had called. He was prompt every time we met up. The project started and ended on schedule. He took the time to explain everything that he was doing, so we could understand the process. Mike called numerous times during and after the project to make sure I was satisfied - and also came back and rebuffed and recoated an area that I was concerned about. With an 86 year old home, my floors were in pretty bad condition, and he made them look phenomenal. Brand new almost. Just a great great experience.
