While he was working on the stove, however, he damaged the brand-new vinyl flooring in our kitchen. He had taken the precaution of using cardboard underneath the stove to protect the floor, but it was a particularly heavy stove and it somehow damaged the floor anyway. He called us over immediately to show us the damage that he had caused and he was very apologetic. Without even asking for him to make it right, he called his company to discuss what they should do. They decided that they would hire a flooring installer to come out and repair our floor at their expense. They suggested that we only pay half of the bill until the flooring repair was completed to our satisfaction. Everyone involved handled the situation in a very honorable way. They turned a situation, which could have turned very sour and ugly, into a very good experience.
Even the best of us make mistakes on occasion, but not everyone is willing to step up and take responsibility for it. I'm happy to say that, in the end, I feel very favorable towards this company and I plan to use them in the future. I do believe that it was an honest, uncommon, mistake and the way they handled it was exemplary.
