Despite it being late in the year for outdoor painting, John and Alison Pickering worked their crew's schedule to accommodate our request for painting our deck.  It would involve a couple of days work that had to be planned around the cool rainy weather.  They kept in communication with us and let us know when they would be working.  John was punctual and professional for the estimate. The crew worked hard and steady to finish on time.  Alison stopped by to make sure the project was going well.  They cleaned up the work area thoroughly. All I needed to do was pick out the stain color! They really seem to take pride in their work and value their customers.

The paint job was NOT good and their professionalism is even worse. They didn't paint the trim around the windows like the contract said. They tried to rush the painting process, and I still feel like they missed quite a few spots. There were even times where I had to tell them to paint spots they missed. In less than 2 months, the stucco was looking horrible and crumbling. It is even worse now since so much time has passed. I called in October 2013 to let them know what was going on. They said I needed to wait until spring. I had to contact them again once the spring came, and they stood me up. I've contacted them many times since then. There were many times they were supposed to come out and never did. The last time I contacted them, they were supposed to come on October 31, 2014 to fix the stucco. It was a complete no show and they never called. I either want them to fix what I paid for, or my money back.
Response from CertaPro Painters® of Akron
"All agreed contract dealings were conducted strictly between CertaPro Painters and Linells Fiduciary, Nicole Welsh. All work was performed as agreed contract. (member name removed) never contacted her Fiduciary, nor had she contacted our franchise directly either via email or phone or else we would have taken care of any issues as soon as possible. (member name removed) went directly to corporate with her false allegations that we had robbed her. We went above and beyond to accommodate (member name removed) and her financial situation by setting up a monthly payment plan. The homeowner waited till almost the end of the season to log her complaints and we were then fighting a rainy season. (member name removed) has not been accommodating, we had contacted her to set up a date and time to come out to the house and do the touch ups, when the painting crew arrived, they were told by (member name removed) son that she was sleeping and we were unable to access the yard. We then contacted her a second time to let her know we were scheduling to come out and to put the paint outside since she does not always answer the door, when the painter arrived, the paint had not been left out as instructed, the gates to access the yard were locked and she was not answering. The homeowners’ house does have a prior issue of the stucco siding holding in moisture, therefore, the repairs that were performed as per agreed contract were compromised due to this situation. We will continue to try and contact (member name removed) in order to rectify any issues as soon as the weather permits."

They painted the front porch no problem and looked great.  However the back fence in the contract stated "power wash, prime, and stain".  Well, they power washed, and then put a "primer and paint in one" on, just one coat, and it looked awful.  My wife called me incredibly upset saying it looked terrible, and we have the pictures to prove it.  The painters said we were only getting one coat and if we wanted another coat it was going to cost more.
Furious, I called the person who did the estimate, sent him the pictures, and he understood what was happening and directed the crew to apply the second coat, as the contract said they would do.  I was so angry that I had to take time to make them do what the contact said they would do.  No one would have ever looked at their finished product after one coat and said "well, that's done and it looks great, glad our name is on it."  They were perfectly willing to leave with it looking terrible.  This is why I rated them so low on professionalism.
In the end, things did work out, the quality of the final product was good, the manager was responsive and did the right thing, but the crew that came out couldn't have cared less.  On the review here it asks if I would use them again, and I wish there was a "maybe".  I think if we do use them again, I'll have to take a vacation day off work and supervise them closely to see that they do exactly what the agreed upon contract states.
Response from CertaPro Painters® of Akron
"As per the agreed contract, the homeowners project was to receive only one coat of paint on the fence and since we were applying only one coat, a Sherwin Williams product was used that is a paint and primer in one. It was unfortunate that one coat did not give the coverage the homeowner had envisioned. Therefore, CertaPro applied at company expense, a second coat."

I am very happy with the job.  I had two quotes and felt that Joe from CertaPro did a more thorough job of assessing my house.  So I went with them even though it was more expensive than the other quote.  The crew removed the shutters to paint them separately and had to deal with BATS behind several shutters that no one knew about.  They pressure washed the whole house, chipped off all the peeling paint, reglazed windows that were in disrepair, painted all the gutters, trim, doors, everything.  They did a very thorough job.  The house looks great.
Rob & Jason are great guys who are proud of the work they do and the company they work for.

Response to my inquiry handled promptly. Came out & gave estimate. Then I had to contact them to get a start date. Rainy weather had delayed other jobs, but there was a real lack of communication as to what was going on and when. Finally got the work finished and it does look good. On the fence about calling them for future work.

The worst nightmare you could ever imagine.  They contracted to power wash my home.  Two men arrived without a power washer and told me that they use a hose and a brush.  The sides of my home are 30 feet high; their brush reached ten feet.
The next 3-man crew power washed my home, but when they started to caulk and tape, they only had one-half tube of caulk and no sand paper.  Shortly after they started, one of the crew was sent to another job.
They worked one side of the house at a time, spraying on the first coat of paint and then spraying on the second coat immediately after the first.  The paint manufacturer advises to wait 24 hours.  They painted over cobwebs and missed spots.
They told me that they weren't painting the trim on my windows, so I called Rich T. He came out and told me that they were not painting the windows, because it wasn't in the contract.  I showed them my copy of the contract that stated clearly "trim on windows".
When they thought they were finished, I inspected their work, then called Rich to tell him what I found.
He came with the crew leader and we inspected the house.  One of the painters had brush painted the casing around my garage doors.  He got more paint on the siding then he did  on the trim. Rich agreed to repaint my house.
When they removed the tape from the windows, they, also removed some of the new paint from the sills.  They had to be redone.
I never knew who was in charge of the day-to-day operation.  They all acted as though each one was the boss.  They constantly
removed workers from the job.  I had to repeatedly explain what had to be done to each worker. The only thing Rich concerned himself
with was getting the money.  He had trouble telling the crews what had to be done.  The only crew member with experience was  the sprayer.  The rest did not know the basics.
A three day job that took a month to finish.
Response from CertaPro Painters® of Akron
"The first crew assigned to the project did come out and start to clean the ranch style house with ladders, a telescopic brush, cleaning products and a hose. The homeowner was not happy with that process or the assigned crew, so we immediately put another crew on the project and proceeded to power wash the house only. It is customary to paint a house one side at a time and CertaPro always uses a high quality, exterior, Sherwin Williams paint that has a quick set up time and allows us to spray the second coat within a short time frame. On two occasions the Sherwin Williams Representative came to the site to verify with the homeowner that there was the contracted two coats, the fact that we even exceeded the mil count (number of coats) of paint on the entire exterior. As for the windows, they were a separate optional project and price that was not accepted as part of the original contract. We were only contracted to paint the trim around the windows, therefore, confusion was created by the homeowners referring to the trim as "the windows" to the painters who new they were not suppose to paint any windows. Also, as per contract we only remove and replace loose, brittle and peeling caulk, fill in any caulked areas that are cracked to the areas to be painted. We do not do any unnecessary caulking and unless the homeowner went into the painters vehicle, would not know what supplies and materials were on hand. With this painting project, there was an issue of a missed spot and paint that came up when the tape was removed, that is the reason we require a walk around with the homeowner to make sure everything is to their satisfaction and allow us to alleviate any touch up issues. Despite the fact that the house was painted per contract, professionally and exceptionally painted and proven by Sherwin Williams to have two coats, we then proceeded to apply a third coat to try and please a homeowner, who exaggerated issues, was overly critical of every process and no matter what, we would not have been able to please. The painting project with weather factored in, was complete within a weeks time. Phil and his crew were the painters for this project. Please see the positive comments for him and his crew below regarding the [name removed] Job."

Rich and Phil  of CertaPro were very pleasant to deal with from start to finish and their work exceeded my expectations.
The estimate was detailed, the price was competitive, and the execution was hassle-free.  After the building was power-washed, I met Phil, the job foreman, at the site to discuss specific details and provide him with the final color choice.  I originally had the job quoted such that only one color was to be used on the building.  Phil suggested to me that a two-tone paint job with a white color-belt would look nice and "pop."  He showed me pictures of a similar commercial building that his crew had painted with a two-tone paint job.  I  asked how much more it would cost for two shades of paint as opposed to one, and the extra price turned out to be more than reasonable, therefore I went with the suggestion.
The outcome of the project was amazing.  The job was completed in a timely manner and I was kept in contact with throughout the entire process.  Although at first I was slightly hesitant, I am SO glad that I went with the two-tone paint job, and I am forever grateful to Phil for the professional suggestion.

The painters completed the two rooms in a timely manner, but when they began the kitchen/eat-in area and we inquired as to how the faux finish would be done, they informed us that there had been no mention of a faux finish being done by CertaPro and they did NOT do faux finish jobs.  When we called CertaPro, we were told that the estimate did not include the faux finish and that they would have to send out another painter they used to give us another estimate. The cost was well above the original estimate! We ended up finding another painter on our own and just paying CertaPro for the two rooms painted. We were very disappointed.
Response from CertaPro Painters® of Akron
"During the time of the estimate appointment, the Homeowner(s) and Sales Representative do a "walk through" of the areas to discuss what the Homeowner(s) would like estimated and what their expectations are. It was at that time the Rep. informed her that our crews do not do faux painting, but, we would be able to put her in touch with faux finishers we have used in the past so she would be able to receive a separate estimate. The Rep. also explained to the Homeowner the type of faux finish she wanted was quite expensive and very labor intensive to apply and remove should it be needed for resale purposes. With that being explained to the Homeowner, the detailed contract, which was reviewed by her and the Rep. and left with the Homeowner(s) at the time of the appointment, did not include an estimate for faux painting. Prior to starting any project, the Rep and the crew Foreman discuss the details and expectations of the project. It was at that time the Rep. informed the crew that the Homeowner(s) were considering a faux finish and would be getting a seperate estimate. Throughout the time of production the Rep. was in contact with the client who stated that she did get a price for the faux finished and that it was well beyond the budget. CertaPro Painters therefore completed all repairs, prep and painting per signed contract agreement."

Worst experience of any contractor we ever hired. Lacked professionalism, combative, refused to stand behind product and quality of work, painted with lower quality of paint first time, not what we contracted for washed off walls. They mixed their own color did not use  Sherwin Williams color that we chose. Did not paint 2 coats as contracted, whole sections of areas missed. Used latex paint on oil based wood trim, peeled off had to be scraped off, washed, sanded and primered then repainted. Drop cloths not used, paint spots all floors and fireplace.  Foyer floor damaged from denatured alcohol and had to be sanded and refinished. Amateur cutting, tape not used, painters used rollers and brushes purchased from dollar store, I then demanded that they use quality rollers that I purchased. I had to contact main offices of Certa pro to facilitate resolution of all listed complaints this. It disrupted our lives from April 2011 to October 30, 2011. I have more than 75 pictures as proof.

"On 3/18/11 CertaPro Painters were contracted to perform basic interior painting: Walls, Ceilings and Trim. The Job was completed an on 4/1/11 our Customer Comment Card was filled out by member with a Rating of all 5's and stated "The painter was very professional, timely, entertaining and a fantastic painter!" During our follow up on production the owner Rich Toriello requested that we come back for touch ups even though she was satisfied. Many months later she called Corporate with dissatisfaction and without giving us the courtesy or opportunity to address her issue. We were then notified by Corporate and determined to keep a satisfied customer we did work over and above our contract. Upon completing the touch ups the customer called again at a much later date to state our painter dripped paint on the hardwood and supposedly in an attempt to clean up the marred the floor surface. To further maintain customer satisfaction and our reputation, we agreed to refinish the questionable area at our $462.00 cost to Norburt Harwood Flooring. The member did not pay for this service as indicated in the report. Mid September the customer then called us with a "punch list". At the advisement of our attorney, we put together a formal list and the owner himself went back to perform additional work that was beyond our agreement. On 10/29/11 the homeowner signed off that all redo's were complete and to her satisfaction. CertaPro worked at the behest of the customer to retouch all work and re-cut all lines. Despite the false accusations of the homeowner, at no time did CertaPro ever "mix their own paint", purchase or use products and supplies from anywhere other than Sherwin Williams, with receipts on file to support those purchases. We use top quality brushes and paint on every job."

Positive experience all around. Large roof overhang needed extensive prep work. This was done well. Entire process was professional. Cleaning, masking, painting and job clean-up was excellent. Job was complicated by the fact that the ranch house is surrounded by hedges close to the house.
