One of the most disgusting and despicable things you can do as a business owner is to steal from the elderly. New ARA home improvement and Alex Avery, owner, took a $3700 deposit to order windows for a house. He won't deliver the goods or service, he won't answer his phone and he won't return voice messages. Does it make you feel good to steal and cheat a 90 year old man out of his money?

The owner is extremely opinionated, and overbearing. They changed the color scheme in the bathroom without our approval. There were some damaged items. They attempted to install a countertop that was the wrong dimensions than what we had asked for. When it was bought to their attention, they did correct the error. The cabinetry was not, as promised. The countertop warped because it was not supported correctly. In addition to all that we had to turn around and pay someone else to come in, and repair the countertop, and put in the correct cabinetry. We were okay with the price. There were some good points. There were too many bad points. I would absolutely not refer them to anyone.

The workers arrived on time each day. When I realized the cabinet for the island was going to be larger than I wanted, the owner of the company was very accommodating and express ordered a smaller cabinet for me and adjusted the bill for the lesser amount. The work was done on time and was very good. Last month (11 months after the remodel) some of the edge tiles on the island began to come loose and fall off. I called the contractor and he had a crew out the next day to repair the tiles. I gave a grade of "B" for price only because I did not get any other estimates and cannot really compare price so I hesitate to give an "A" rating for price. Also, I gave a "B" rating for professionalism because when the workers came back for the subsequent repair they left two large spots of grout residue on my floors that I had to clean up. One of these spots was on a new hardwood floor. Fortunately the floor was not damaged. (They came when I was at work so I did not have the opportunity to supervise). This was a minor problem but I felt it should be noted. So, overall, I am happy with the results and with the company.
