Patrick from G.A. Hommel originally estimated a job for us that was the result of a nightmarish appliance install completed by Cipullo Delivery. The work took approximately two months to complete. The initial estimate included removal and repair of all cabinetry and repair/replacement of kitchen flooring and re-stretching basement carpet.
After Patrick gave us the estimate, we decided to move forward with the job. A Project Manager named Dan came to our house and stated that Patrick had mis-quoted the job and that there was a lot more work involved. I discussed options with Dan and we worked out a solution.
Instead of ripping out all the cabinets we settled on replacing the section underneath the sink with a thick piece of finished plywood.
Once work began, I felt the need to supervise every second of work done. This was because of the nightmare I had dealt with before from Cipullo Delivery, and was NO fault of the workmanship provided by G.A. Hommel.
G.A. Hommel had sub-contracted Calvetta Bros. Flooring to complete the flooring work. They did an excellent job and I would not hesitate contacting them directly with any flooring needs. While they were completing the work I asked them if they would be using all of the materials listed on the original estimate. They said no, that they were using considerably less and they would be able to use the left over materials at another job.
G.A. Hommel had required a deposit to begin work and after the work was completed in late April I received an invoice for the balance of the original estimate! The original estimate was for $4600. I then left a message for Patrick that the invoice was not correct and the estimate needed to be revised. I did not hear anything from Patrick until June 20 when I received an email from him stating that he had been notified by the office that I had not remitted payment. I replied quickly that I had not received the revised estimate yet. Patrick replied three days later with a revised estimate that had no revisions! I contacted Patrick again and he stated that he would be out of town until the 14th of July and no further payment would be required until then. I did not hear from him again until September 15th, once again asking for payment. I told him I had not received a revised quote yet. He seemed very upset and said I would receive the revision quickly. Two days later I received an email from him stating that this would be the final revision and that payment was due upon receipt. The issue was that the quote was still not correct! It included hours for a plumber and materials that were never used in my house! A plumber never even came to my house at any time, there was no plumbing work required to complete this job!
At this point I was done dealing with Patrick and contacted the office to speak with whoever was in charge. I expressed my concerns and was told that I would be contacted later that day by someone other than Patrick. Nobody called until late the next afternoon and guess what? It was Patrick!
He apologized and finally sent me a correct invoice for the final amount. Grand total for the job came in at $3,174
and replaceBest contractor I have ever hired, and I have hired many.
Project manager was highly communicative (emails and phone); work team showed up every day when they had the project (i.e. not the usual "work one day, disappear the next" that is typical.
Great experience. I would not only recommend them, but I just hired them again.
