Our home was built "green" in the 1980's. The 10 large south-facing skylights had many leaks between them and they were slowly sliding down the roof over time. Of the 10, 7 had cracked or otherwise compromised seals, causing those 7 to be cloudy all the time. We were losing heat and A/C, we had a waterfall in our foyer on several occasions during heavy rains, and it cosmetically compromised our home. Three other contractors refused to simply fix and replace what was there; they wanted to change the entire roofing structure or even close it in altogether. But when a significant feature of your home is that is faces due South and has 10 enormous skylights to let in sunlight to warm your home in the winter, it's a feature we wanted to keep. Darren did a water test to see where the problems were, and then he put 4 different options in writing, including a Band-Aid option, fixing of the 7 glass lights with the compromised seals, fixing all 10 glass lights, or redoing the entire area with a single, made-just-for-this-property skylight piece that would fit over the entire 14'x17' area. We chose to fix the entire space, all 10 lights, but to have it look as it would have looked when it was brand new 28 years ago, only better. Darren confirmed the pricing, had me choose the glass (out of 4 options), and told me how the work would go and the timeline, start to completion. These guys normally do commercial glass work for well-known businesses throughout central Ohio, and they are exactly what was needed for my unique glass work. They showed up at 7:15a last Thursday morning and worked until about 5p, that day and the next. Per our agreement, they returned this Friday morning at 7:15a and wrapped up the job at about 4p. Four men (Darren, THE Kevin, Doug, and the other Kevin) each put in three 10 hour days up on the lift, building scaffolding inside our foyer, removing the old glass without breaking it, removing the old seals, replacing and setting the new glass, fulfilling the needs of the support structure itself to hold, maintain and seal against rain and whether while holding up 60-lb glass pieces, and setting in all new flashing on all 4 sides of the glass work so we won't have to worry about rain for at least another 30 years, and cleaning the glass both inside and outside. The space in between each panel is triple protected, the horizontal rib that was once there damming the water runoff is now gone, and the new flashing around the 4 sides is fully weatherproofed. We couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: Removed 10 old and replaced with 10 new 6'x3' triple-pane skylights.
