HDL-Harrington Decks & Landscaping

Lack of communication from builder delayed the bid, and the specs for floating deck did not align with what I thought we had discussed. I acknowledge that all communication is two-way, and I may also be at fault, but persistent lack of communication, delay, and, from my perspective, specs that did not align with request did not bode well for a working relationship. This is a highly-regarded builder who may simply have been uninterested in my project, but I would have appreciated the courtesy of informing me of that when the estimator came out. Communications with the office were wonderful, and I appreciate the kindness and attention of the office. Unfortunately, the office is not the builder or estimator.

Figuratively speaking, Erick Harrington is such a prolific builder. I was going to hire him (his company, HDL) to build a new fence and deck. However, he had so much work already assigned in his busy schedule, that I could not acquire his services in the time frame desired. Unfortunately, I had to choose an inferior company to his---so disappointed! In my research, found Mr. Harrington to be of humble beginnings as a deck builder and other things and is now one of the best builders in the Columbus, Ohio area. He is so "modest" regarding his business expertise and is great at answering emails, even the tit for tat kind. Finally, his estimate was highly competitive and could hardly believe his bottom line figure. Hope to get to hire him for some other project in the future. Susan Murray

They did a great job overall! I really like the fence. There was a small issue with the latch that they came right back to fix when I let them know. Price was fair and they were really kind to my son who liked to watch them work. Wish there had been a little more communication about when to expect them to come out, but otherwise did great work.

Eric Harrington knows decks! He did an excellent job rebuilding parts of our deck structure and completing it with all maintenance free materials. The attention to detail was very much appreciated. The deck looks amazing. He and his crew were courteous and kept things clean and orderly. Our expectations were exceeded. The materials, craftsmanship and service were outstanding. I am recommending this company to friends and relatives.

Finished project looks good. I appreciated suggestions from Eric on the design. The landing was constructed in a timely manner. The "finished" project had many splinters coming out of the handrail. It took several attempts to have the workers return to sand down the wood. They finally came out and did the sanding on the day promised.

I want to give a shout out and a huge recommendation to [*** Link removed ***] for the awesome job they did on new supports for my existing decks, two retaining walls underneath for erosion and usability, and a new lower deck. They are a local, family-owned business off of Derringer. They were courteous, professional, prompt, and did a beautiful job! They honored their quote and had all work completed in a little bit over two days. I highly recommend!!!

Outstanding! HDL did everything right. I received a prompt visit for the estimate which was very competitive, they completed the work required within one week, and the crew was very professional and the end product was superb! HDL will do all my future landscaping work. P.S. I found other landscapers on Angie's List which were too busy to even give me an estimate within a month, let alone getting to the job.

3 gentlemen showed up at my house at about 8 in the morning and the replacement was up and finished before my wife got home from work at 4.Very nice guys too.

This was a constructed fence, not just the installation of prebuilt fencing. Beautiful work, excellent price, great experience which is consistent with our experience working with HDL. I'm always happy with their work and their warranty cannot be beat!

Wonderful job! We had HDL/Eric Harrington out to our house multiple times as we decided what to do with our deck. Eric was easy to work with, provided ideas, and also helped us keep the costs in line with our budget. We wanted to add electric lighting to the deck, but didn't know if we wanted to do that just yet. Eric added a transformer to the basement which not only provided electric to the deck, but also to future projects in our back yard. The deck turned out wonderful and we plan to use HDL for a fence here in the near future.

HDL was awesome! They were great to work with. Eric helped us with a great design that fit the exterior of our home perfectly for both a wood deck and patio area, including a bump out for a grill. His crew was so courteous and were very good at what they do. They also didn't seem to mind the toddlers that my wife watches looking at them working  through the windows all day long either. It was so fun to see the project take shape and done in a timely manner.

I could not have been more pleased with their work on this issue.  I was so pleased with their service they now cut my lawn front and back on a weekly basis because of the work performed on the Fencing.  Good company, good folks!

Eric and his crew were great to work with. At the beginning of the construction of the deck, we determined the size wouldn't be right, and Eric was VERY accommodating, came up with a different design for the layout, which we really liked. They kept their work area tidy and cleaned up each day. Truly enjoyed working with them.

I recently had the opportunity to have contracted a landscaping company called High Definition Lawns. This company is run by Sarah and her crew. high Definition Lawns did a compleat redo of the front of my home. To say the work was GREAT is a understatement. They did everything from demo and removal, to a compleat install. I, as a rule, get three estimates and High Definition lawns was the lowest. I had some concern at first but the hard work and end results put my mind at ease. I am well pleased with this company.

You can always count on them and they do a really good job. They come, take their equipments, do the yard and they leave.

The team stayed in contact with us as the weather was crazy cold. The team dressed accordingly and worked through it. The new deck is fabulous and so roomy. The ran into a couple of challenges but worked with my husband to get his decision on what he wanted them to do. He is a tough person to give a top notch rating to and he is very happy with this company and the guys that worked on the deck.

We contacted several builders about the deck we wanted for our home. Harrington was the last builder we contacted. We chose them because of all the builders we talked to they seemed the easiest to work with while still being extremely professional.
From start to finish, it went great! The Harrington family worked with us through every step of the process. We gave them our drawings of the vision of our deck and they made it a reality. And like any construction project, there were issues that came up during construction which they handled without even a hint of frustration. One of the delays was delivery from their vendor which crunched our schedule for staining the upper pergola board before installation. HDL actually spent half a day staining these boards for us free of charge, taking ownership for a problem they didn't directly cause. And the guys were in good spirits about it, too.
You don't find that kind of service very often. We are definitely happy with our deck and our choice in a builder. We are looking forward to having them back for our next renovation project!

I called for an estimate and it took about three weeks for them to return my call. When they finally showed up they gave me a fair quote and helped measure the door I needed. We ordered the door and were supposed to instal once it arrived. Once the door came in they would call every week and push back the installation for three straight weeks. They finally set a date and said they would be there at 9 am to begin. They never showed up. I waited around all day and didn't even receive a phone call. Most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with.

They provided us with a detailed walk through of what would look good for our specific lot. We have an uneven wooded lot so Aaron provided us with several options. They helped me work with home owners to get approval and provided information and sketch examples. Finished the fence in 2 days which was great! Everything looks great and easy to work with. They have done work for others in our neighborhood and would recommend. Will call them when it is time for our deck and patio!

At the end of March we purchased a new home and right off the bat knew we needed a fence to constrain our 2 dogs. We got several estimates from different companies and were most impressed with the ideas and professionalism of HDL. Given that there were several obstacles to overcome with putting the fence in (tree lines,roots, entrechments, etc.) we were at first hesitant as we were concerned about losing too much of the property. However, after talking with the engineer and running a quick layout of the fence we were able to come up with some creative solutions and include almost all of the property! Not only did they fit us into their schedule very quickly (in under 2 weeks) but services were completed within 3 days!
The gentlemen that put the fence up couldn't have been more polite or helpful and did an A+ job. There was never a mess and everything (other than the fence) looked exactly the same when they finished as when they started, maybe even better. This company goes the extra mile to ensure complete customer satisfaction. For example, the workers included an extra post (that was not previously discussed) onto our existing deck because they knew the fence was for our 2 dogs. I couldn't have asked for a much easier or stress free experience. On top of that, the fence is exactly the style we were looking for and looks impeccable.
While constructing the fence they also did the re-grading of the dirt along the front and back of the house. This was done at a VERY fair cost and we were even able to use the dirt that was dug from the fence! All the grading around the house looked great and finally the water is running in the right direction.
Overall, we could not be happier with the professionalism, expertise, and completed work by HDL. In the near future we will need our front stairs replaced and we already know who to call.

They are awesome. They did a good job. The two guys were really good. They were very concerned about walking next to the pool with the mud on their feet. They were very concerned about taking care of rest of the yard while they were building the fence because they were still muddy because of the weather. The way fence went, it was really high as it was for the dog; so they made sure to put some more of the ground cover underneath for the dog couldn't get out. They took their time to make sure it was done well. It was clean and the guys were really nice. They did the deck before we moved in to the house, so we wanted the same fence and we went with them. We didn't really compare the prices.
