Pete's Professional Insulation

Removed old insulation and blew in new insulation in attic. Also insulated ceiling and walls of garage.

Very fast responses, once job was listed on angies list. Appointment made and scheduled time for both the estimate and day of the job kept. Polite with job finished in just a few hours while having to over coming obstacles found in older home. Cleaned up afterwards. Area serviced was approximately 24' x32' to R-49 rating. - Only about 6" of insulation was present before starting the job.

I originally contacted Pete’s to provide batt insulation on the exterior walls of a basement remodel. Pete recommended I consider insulating all the walls and ceiling as well in order to suppress noise between levels of the house. I ultimately agreed and am thoroughly impressed with the results. The care that his team took to completely cover the ceiling was really great. Josh worked hard to get R30 batts above HVAC ducts and around wiring, braces, etc. The job took longer than expected but only because they were committed to doing a quality job.

Once they got here, they did a good job.

This company was very professional. The cost was great and the saved alot of money. They really did detailed work.

Pete was great.  The only room for improvement is responsiveness but when we did connect the first time he was candid and explained he does his own scheduling, was overwhelmed by responses to his Angie's list deal and promised that while it might take some time, he wouldn't forget about us.  He makes a point to be at the job sites himself, focusing on quality of work first and does the scheduling as soon as he can.  Our multi-level home has 3 largish sections of attic that in some spots had 2 inches or less of insulation so we knew that the work might require two visits.  The first visit happened within a few weeks of the initial call and he said he'd call to schedule the 2nd one.  When I forgot to respond to his message he followed up and we ended up finishing the job a couple months after initial contact.  The delay was as much because of our own schedule conflicts.

Pete was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all our questions and concerns, both during phone conversations and during the job.  He seemed to take great pride both in the work he and his crew do and the in providing the best customer interaction possible and we will go to him again should the need arise.

"Attic Inspection" is at best a misleading description for the services Pete provided.  I expected him to walk through the entire attic and speak to some issues that I asked him about which were not directly related to insulation.  I would expect to get what Pete provided for free from any insulation business that was interested in selling me insulation. Pete also tracked insulation into my house.  When my wife angrily pointed that out to him, all he did was say "oops!".  He didn't even apologize, much less offer to clean it up.

We have an old 1919 home with poor insulation in the walls.

Contacted Pete (the owner) for an attic insulation quote.  Used the Angie's Big Deal at $49.00.  The price was supposed to be for an "Attic Inspection Plus an Insulation and Ventilation Analysis".

Called Pete to set up the appointment for January 15th several weeks ahead of time.  Waited at my house for quite a while on the 15th.  I called him to find out why he didn't show.  He apologized and said that he had problems with his family that morning and had lost my number (or he would have called).  We set up another time.

The next time, he was a little late.  He didn't apologize for the tardiness.  Before I mention the many negatives, I will say that Pete is a friendly guy.

The Big Deal from Angie's List is supposed to be for "An Attic Inspection Plus an Insulation and Ventilation Analysis".  This is where any positives end.  Pete never actually went into the attic.  He simply got a few steps up on a ladder and peered around with a flashlight.  You cannot actually do an "Attic Inspection" without going up into the attic.  I knew that I could get a no-charge quote from any company, so I expected more.  There is a partial "false wall" in the attic and cannot really be inspected without going up and in.  Again, you do not have to go up in the attic to give a quote for insulation (although I would think you would want to).  But, do not advertise "Attic Inspection" in a Big Deal if you are not going into the attic.

There was very little "Insulation and Ventilation Analysis" either. 

Essentially what Pete did was give me a quote for attic insulation.  Any company in this line of work will give you a FREE attic insulation quote.  When you are paying $49.00 additional, you would hope to get an education along with the analysis.  There really was none of this.  I have no air returns in two bedrooms of this three bedroom house.  This, along with other ventilation problems were never covered or brought up by Pete.  This is the kind of information that I was hoping to receive.

So, paying the additional money for a big deal when one simply receives a quote was foolish on my part.  I thought I would receive more.

I received free quotes from two other companies for the attic insulation, so again, the big deal was a waste of money.

I do think that Pete is competent about insulation.  I do believe that he could have performed the job.  Both Pete and an associate did follow up to see if I wanted the work done.  I did not return either call.

After having to pay for nothing more than a quote, I simply didn't want to spend any more money on this company.

Came out to survey the house, then came back with a team over several days.  We were out of town when they did the work.  When we returned, there was still a good bit of dust around from where they'd drilled all of the holes to spray in the insulation.  But it was within reason.  They clearly spent time cleaning up to a reasonable extent...no mopping or anything, but for what must be a messy job, they cleaned up well.
And, of course, the job they did with the insulation was excellent.  I live in an old home that had no insulation before.  The temperature noticeably changed with the position of the sun each day this summer.  With the temperature dropping as winter approaches, the difference in they way our house holds a temperature after Pete's team came in is incredible.
The work is not cheap, but it is done well.  I am positive that we will get back the expense in energy savings within the next couple years.  Well worth it.

Outside of some initial scheduling issues when Pete and his team arrived they proceeded  with the job in a very professional manner and completed the job in one day. Pete is very well versed and knowledgeable of his profession, what I look for from a contractor. Thanks again to Pete and his team.

I got Pete's number from the side of his truck in the area... glad I did.. I had him and 3 other reputable companies give me quotes.  The other companies didn't seem comfortable working in such an old house.  They all recommended the same product, but most just glanced at the areas and took rough measurements.  Pete got down and dirty checking every inch of the house so he knew exactly what would be needed.  He then took the time to explain, not only what needed to be done, but why.  The companies were pretty split on whether to drill holes from the inside or outside.  But Pete understood that since we were covering the old plaster with drywall, drilling the inside was a no brainer (because of this, he didn't have to repair the holes.. that kept his cost down, it also didn't allow me to see how the repair work would look).  He expected the work to take 3 day, but it actually took a week (fine with me if that is what it took to do it correctly).
Pete's quote was the highest of all of them, but because of the interest he had in doing the job, and the care he took just for the quote, I wanted him to do the work.  I explained this to him, and he adjusted his quote to be within the range of the others.
Work was done, everything was cleaned up.  You can tell the difference in the house.  Other people working on other aspects of the house commented on how good of a job they felt he did (i'm no building expert, so to hear that from people who have no vested interest in it, and who know what they are looking at, meant a lot).
I would definitely hire Pete again if needed in the future.

He did fabulous. He showed up when he was supposed to. He did very everything very well and was very thorough. The price was reasonable. He was able to do my entire project when other companies couldn’t. His motto is that he specializes in older and difficult homes.
