"This situation is regrettable. I must say I was totally caught off guard by this situation as well. Where the customer got the $100 figure from I have no idea. I did not tell them it would be $100. I never would have quoted $100 because I don't perform any services that cost $100. I have standard rates for services which I happily quote customers when they ask. I've never in two decades had a customer who instead of asking the price just assumed they knew what my prices would be and then objected when they found out what they actually were, after the job was complete. I even pointed out the issue with the hammers and said that I would address it and no concern about price was indicated at that time nor was I asked how much it might cost to address that issue. My prices are not a secret and if you are concerned about cost then PLEASE ASK!! I can't imagine hiring a plumber or electrician, not finding out what their rates are, having them out to complete work and then telling them "I just assumed it would cost x" and then go write a bad Angie's List review based on that. Seems totally unfair. For the record the charges amounted to $232. The $249 figure includes sales tax which I do not pocket. They break down as follows: Full-scale tuning with pitch correction (piano untuned for many years) Rough tuning $68 Fine tuning $128 Address hammer let off issues $36 Time spent approximately 2.5 hours. 45 minutes drive time, 33 miles round trip."
