After the job was completed, we noticed a smell in the basement. I asked the owner to take a look twice. Both times he said he couldn't smell anything, but anyone could who walked into the house. He just didn't want to deal with it, I believe.
They had convinced us to get the work done without requesting a permit and inspections from the city - DON'T EVER DO THIS!
After spending close to $15,000 with other plumbers trying to find the smell, we had to open walls.
We found that 1) the toilet flange in the bathroom they installed had a 1/4 inch gap, so that flushed toilet water ran down the inside of the house, 2) there was a vent that was left uncapped and just open in the floor, 3) the main stack that services 2 bathrooms was plumbed using GLUE instead of inspection-required connections.
After finding all of this, we are truley sorry we ever hired them. Their price seemed too good to be true, and we found out that is was. We believe the plumber they used is not licensed.
When I contacted them after finding all of this, they said that my warranty time-frame was over...but I HAD contacted them, twice, to address the problem.
I also learned that they were in the process of bankruptcy during this job; they did not share that with us. So we are several thousand dollars in the hole with no recourse.
They will say that they offered to help fix the problem, but in our experience, they washed their hands of us as soon as they got paid. The owner DID come twice, but refused to say he smelled anything.
"The house was not originally built correctly with the roof truss layout. We had discussed this with the homeowner, while the walls were being framed, and was told that they would be okay with that, and we completed the project. There were some problems with the plumber, in which we took notice, and we no longer offer him contracts for our projects. We regret and appologize for the inconvenience. However, if the homeowner was not pleased with the work or the clean up, then why weren't we contacted to fix these problems? We would've returned, free of charge, to repair the items which we were contracted for. A phone call from the homeowner would've been nice, instead of a written public complaint."
His crew showed up every day, cleaned up after themselves and were very personable. They also finished within the specified time frame provided.
We are very happy with the end result. I would say it has exceeded my expectation since the first day Victor came out and met with us for the first time.
I already have plans to have them come back to do other projects.
