As it turned out, Millbrook Builders were not familiar with the city code prior to quoting this job and apparently unwittingly underbid the job. Millbrook Builders then came back on the homeowners and accused them of knowing that the job had been underbid and accused them of "duping" them on this project. Millbrook Builders then threatened the homeowners that they would tie up the job in court for years. While the craftsmanship appears to be sound (after three days), it did take legal assistance and two and a half months to get a week long project completed. Millbrook Builders showed up haphazardly, a day or two a week for 4.5 weeks. Definitely, definitely not worth the hassle. At the completion of the project, the homeowners had an required appointment with the county inspector to provide final clearance on the completed project. Millbrook Builders did not believe that the inspection was necessary and demanded payment immediately at which point, threatened to place a mechanical lien on the homeowners for the full price of the job if the homeowners did not pay the final 1/4th of the invoice within a two hour window prior to the County's conducting it's final inspection. The job had been completed less than 24 hours at this point and a final inspection was pending. The homeowners were told that this was "promise not a threat." This was a very stressful and draining experience with only the tip of the iceberg mentioned here. Most definitely not worth the aggravation and unexpected extra expense to the homeowners even if the end product is satisfactory. The homeowners paid in full and on time, the project passed inspection. "Caveat emptor."
