Hershel Hayes Stump Grinding

Great experience.  Hershel Jr (who goes by Jerry) is now running the stump grinding business.  After I phoned him, he was here within a few days and completed my small job in about a half hour.   The stump grinder he uses is a big, powerful well-designed  device.  The machine my tree service used after removing my tree completely jammed on the last two roots and that is why I had to call in Hayes to finish the job they began.   True gentleman.  We had hired Mr Hayes Sr in 2006 and his son just as nice.  Keep in mind that the ground chips are left behind and they are yours to deal with which is no biggie.  This is standard practice.   A job well done and would definitely hire him again.

He did an excellent job! He is 90 years old, which you would never believe! The youngster helping him might be in his 70s. They are both quite personable, and very able to do this job even with their advancing years.

Their price was reasonable. Their guy was prompt and came out when he said he would. He did a great job and I recommend him.

When I found Mr. Hayes on Angie's List, I called and scheduled an appointment. He was so nice on the phone. I told him that many people had highly recommended him on Angie's List. He was very humble and delighted to hear that there were a number of reviews regarding his services. We made an appointment for the very next day. Hershel Hayes and his helper arrived on time and were very courteous and professional. Mr. Hayes is such a nice, personable man with a strong work ethic. He said that his goal was to do the work to our complete satisfaction, and it did just that! He ground two large tree stumps in our back yard. One stump had particularly large roots and Mr. Hayes worked diligently on grinding those well below grade until he accomplished the task. We could not be more pleased with the work Mr. Hayes provided. We will definitely use Mr. Hayes' services in the future. We give Hershel Hayes Stump Grinding our highest recommendation.

He was quite elderly like 80 and he had this big machine and he was so nice that he just doesn't keep busy. He does a good job and all he does is stump grinding. He was terrific. He is thorough, professional and his ability and clean up is good. His price and dependability is good. He will call and ask if he could come the next day. He is such a nice elderly man. Sometimes I think that the older ones are better than the younger ones because they came up during 8 different time periods that the younger ones did. He is the best.

I called Mr. Hayes last night. He had the stump out by 9:30 this morning! He is a kind and friendly guy with old-school values. I would definitely use him again.

Mr Hayes came out within about 2 days after I first contacted him. Bottomline...he is a young man in his mid 80's that knows what he is doing and enjoys it. I enjoyed our conversation more than anything. If you need stump grinding this is your guy.

He was punctual and very good about his work. He was very through and very clean. He was very nice to talk to and very much of a gentlemen. He had a good work ethic. I just like him and his price is so reasonable. Anybody looking for a stump grinder won't find a better price.

I phoned Mr. Hayes and described that I needed a stump ground out where I had a tree cut down approximately five years ago. He agreed to come out on a specific day to perform the work. When he arrived and actually saw the site it was his judgement that the stump had decomposed to such an extent that it was not worthwhile for him to work on the site. He had traveled a considerable distance, but simply gave me the above advice and left without any charge to me. Obviously an honest man because he could have gone through some motions and collected his usual fee. In future when similar service is needed he will be the first call.

Mr. Hayes performed the service the same day that I called him. He took care of 6 stumps for the same price another quoted for just 4. His highest concern was whether we were satified. We were.

Everything went perfectly. We were under a huge time constraint because the two stumps were in the way of a new tree which was to be delivered in 2 days. I called on a Monday and Mr. Hayes scheduled me for Tuesday. Mr. Hayes arrived right on time, was very clear on his estimate, took great care of my property and had me watch until I was 100% satisfied. All-in-all--excellent experience. A++++

I called Mr. Hayes to get an estimate for having two redbud stumps ground down. He said it would be $2 an inch. We agreed on a Tuesday afternoon a week from the call. Mr. Hayes called me on the Monday afternoon saying he was outside my house. Fortunately I work only a few minutes from my home and agreed to leave work early to meet Mr. Hayes. When I arrived he had already ground one stump down and was working on the other. Upon completion, he charged me $68 (22in and 12in). There were no tracks from his machine and he was done in a very short time. The stumps are gone and the area is ready for new trees. The only drawback was a large area of chips left, but no discussion of removing chips occurred so no real problem with the service. Just something to be aware of when having stumps ground down.

Mr. Hayes offered to come by and showed up within a few minutes of my initial call, discussed what he could do and set a time to come back in a couple of days with his equipment to perform the job. He arrived a few minutes early, and did a superb job removing the remainder of my bushes from hell. He drove his machine across the yard, but did not damage the lawn. I would have gladly paid 5 times what he wanted to charge me after seeing the results and the depth of the roots. What took him a few minutes would have taken me days of digging, and was more than well worth the small cost. I rarely give anyone "A" marks in all categories. Mr. Hayes earned it.

It was kind of hard because he had to go around a stone wall but did so without damaging anything. He was very careful. I was very pleased with him. He did exactly what he said he would do. Got right to work.

Terrific person. Very conscientious. Would definitely use him again.

I contacted Mr. Hayes and he was able to come to our house within just a couple days to do the work. He is an older man and a very hard worker. Extremely easy to get along with. He had no problem griding the tree stump and removing all root systems from our side yard. I will be using Mr. Hayes' service again to remove an additional 75 feet of roots from the other side of our lawn.

Hershel returned my call promptly and scheduled to remove the stump the next day. He arrived promptly as scheduled and did an excellent job of removal. He then explained how to prepare the area for seeding. Hershel is a retired gentleman who grinds stumps to keep active and charges only $2.00 per inch of diameter. It was a pleasure to meet him.

We called Mr. Hayes and got his estimate over the phone. He said he did not need much lead time and to call us back when the tree was down. We called him the day the tree was removed and he was out within two hours to do the job. He strives to satisfy the customer and works slowly and methodically. He was finished in less than an hour. Wood chips were left behind and we knew IN ADVANCE this would be the case. Very nice man. Having Hayes do the work was about $40 to $50 less than using a full service tree company. Furthermore, some of them do not grind stumps themselves but send out a 3rd party a week or so after they remove a tree. Hayes came out the same day.

Great. Mr. Hayes charges $2.00 an inch (diameter) to grind stumps. The most reasonable price in the county. Friendly older gentleman. Retired and now grinds stumps to pass the day.... Can't say enough good things about him.
