I requested an appointment to have the gutters cleaned and our roof inspected in April. I was not given an appointment by the receptionist, but was assured that the worker would telephone me prior to coming to our home. A technician, (though he seemed very nice), unexpectedly appeared at my front door one Friday afternoon stating that he was "in a neighboring community and decided to stop by to take care of the gutters." I questioned his dropping by unannounced and he was aware of the company's policy to telephone the homeowner prior to his visit. It was raining and I was not prepared for the visit, so I did not consent to the work. The same technician did call, probably a week later (approx. 15-20 minutes prior to coming out, saying he was again nearby). He inspected and cleaned the gutters and said he repaired as much as he could do alone. I emphasized to him my initial request for the company to do a roof inspection (for replacement). He said that an estimator would come out. After a lapse of about a week, I called the company. I spoke with a manager and was told "the work order had been lost, but he would expedite the request." These encounters with Ray St. Clair Roofing occurred in April. It is now June and no one has contacted us. The rating is related to both the experience in having the gutters cleaned and their lack of follow up on our roof.

Those poor guys. They battled torrential rain, snow, sleet, and wind (the only thing they didn't have was blazing heat). In spite of the numerous delays that were beyond their control, they finished the job in a timely fashion and we stayed dry and cozy the whole time. They installed new roof vents and worked around the existing skylights. Because of all the delays they even worked one whole weekend! They always told me when they would be there, when they would be back, etc. Their clean-up is impressive.
Description of Work: Removed old double-layer roof. Repaired leak, flashing, etc. Knocked down & rebuilt crumbling chimney and then they somehow put it all back together again, but without the leaks!

It was suggested to me that, because my gutter repair was a small job, I might want to look for a handyman, because it would be several weeks before they could get to me and I was looking for the work to be done ASAP. The office person was very nice and was helpful in information for this.

Response from Ray St Clair Roofing
DEAR VALUED ANGIES LIST MEMBER, RAY ST. CLAIR WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT YOUR RECENT REPORT HAS NOT GONE UNNOTICED AND WE ARE TAKING SEVERAL STEPS TO IMPROVE IN THE AREAS THAT YOU HAVE MENTIONED. RESPONSE TIME: TO SHORTEN OUR RESPONSE TIME WE HAVE ADDED A 12TH FULL TIME ESTIMATOR TO OUR STAFF AND WE ARE OFFERING MORE SATURDAY APPOINTMENTS. AT THE TIME OF YOUR ESTIMATE WE WERE JUST CATCHING UP TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE WE RECEIVED FROM THE HOME & GARDEN SHOW AND THE UNSEASONABLE AMOUNT OF RAIN WE RECEIVED IN APRIL. PRICING: RAY ST. CLAIR IS COMMITTED TO OFFERING ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS THE BEST VALUE FOR THEIR MONEY. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT PROCLAIM TO HAVE THE ABSOLUTE LOWEST PRICE IN TOWN BUT WE SINCERELY FEEL WE USE THE BEST INSTALLATION METHODS AND PRODUCTS FOR OUR CUSTOMERS AT A FAIR PRICE. WITH ROOFING BEING AN UNLICENSED TRADE IN THE GREATER CINCINNATI AREA IT CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT CHOOSING A REPUTABLE CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL ONE OF THE LARGEST INVESTMENTS YOU WILL MAKE ON YOUR HOME. RAY ST. CLAIR HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY AND WE LOOK TO TAKE AWAY THE RISK FACTOR WHEN IT COMES TO THIS INVESTMENT. THE NUMBER ONE REASON A ROOF FAILS PREMATURELY IS DUE TO IMPROPER INSTALLATION. AFTER REVIEWING YOUR PROPOSAL WE HAVE DISCOVERED TWO THINGS THAT WOULD HAVE MADE OUR QUOTE THE MOST EXPENSIVE. OUR ESTIMATOR NOTED VALLEYS THAT WERE GOING INTO WALL DETAILS. YOUR CURRENT ROOFING SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE THE APPROPRIATE FLASHING FOR THIS WALL DETAIL. MANY CONTRACTORS WILL OPT TO IGNORE THIS DETAIL AND JUST INSTALL SHINGLES IN THIS AREA. OUR PROPOSAL DETAILED METAL TROUGHS THAT WOULD BE SOLDERED FOR THIS DIFFICULT AREA. OUR ESTIMATOR ALSO INCLUDED IN YOUR PROPOSAL A REVEAL CROWN FOR YOUR CHIMNEY DUE TO CRACKING ON YOUR EXISTING CROWN. RAY ST. CLAIR BELIEVES THAT IF HAD HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE MET WITH YOU THESE CONCERNS COULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED AND SEPARATED OUT OF YOUR PROPOSAL SO YOU COULD HAVE COMPARED APPLES TO APPLES. AS A RESULT OF YOUR REPORT WE ARE MAKING A STRONGER EFFORT TO MEET WITH CUSTOMERS AT THEIR CONVENIENCE TO GIVE THEM MULTIPLE OPTIONS THAT THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH. WE SINCERELY APPRECIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO LET US KNOW HOW WE CAN IMPROVE.

Ray St. Clair project manager visited me several times to go over the work and ensure I knew what they were going to do. To the best of my knowledge, they were thorough and very honest in their assessment of the work to be done. They worked with me to get a relining quote for the box gutters included with the roofing work, since I couldn't afford to have them completely rebuilt like they will eventually need to be. They warned me upfront that the relining was only going to solve my gutter leakage problem for a couple years. The work was done a couple weeks ago and both roof and gutters are great - no problems experienced to date. I was at work both days the crew was here so never actually saw them, but they definitely cleaned up at night between the work days and stacked all the tools and materials neatly. My neighbor commented that they worked fast and efficiently from what he witnessed. When they left, all was cleaned up and patio furniture etc. was placed back where they found it. The only thing I'm not sure about yet, is that they said they'd send an inspector and I haven't heard from him yet. Remember you get a coupon with Angie's list!

They were prompt. I called them up for an estimate and they came right out. They set up the job and got to it in a reasonably quick time and got it done!
Description of Work: I had one very small leak showing in my living room that keyed me into my roof needing replaced. I had this roof for 17 years. I had them lay new shingles on top of the old. They put Leaf Reliefs on my gutters to shield from leaves and debris getting into my gutters.

Our original project estimate of about $20,000 had to be scaled back when my job became uncertain. They were very cooperative as we adjusted the amount of work and the price we could afford. We scaled the project down from $20,000 to $10,000, omitting the siding we'd planned to do. They showed up on time each day. They did a great job. Later, we hired them again to do the rest of the work. Their communication could have been a little bit better regarding equipment that was left in place during the projects. On one occasion, after they left for the day, we removed part of some scaffolding they'd left up, which I felt would have made break-in easy. Some of the guys are smokers, so I had to put up with a little cigarette smoke coming thru the windows occasionally. These were rather minor, and I wouldn't hesitate hiring them again, if needed.

Lenny came out and did an estimate and explained things very thoroughly. Estimate was accepted within the next few days and work was scheduled and completed within a matter of a couple of weeks of the original estimate visit. The work crew was on time --actually they were one half hour early. Crew was prompt in completing the job and cleaned up afterward. There was an immediate difference in how warm the house felt later than night and I would say that this work was well worth it. There is no question that it will eventually pay for itself in the form of lower heating and A/C costs, not to mention it creates a more comfortable environment on the second story. Highly recommend Ray St. Clair for this work. The insulation they use is blown in cellulose and they provide the homeowner with a certificate of completion after the work is done showing the old and new R-values.
Description of Work: Added 11 inches of insulation to attic area in order to achieve a higher R-value (R-49). Insulation was woefully inadequate prior to having this work performed.

It went relatively well. The estimate and bid process was perfect. They responded quickly and got back to us with a free estimate that was very detailed. They spent plenty of time explaining what they needed to do and why. They showed up to do the work when they originally projected but it did take a little longer to complete because of some staffing issues. However, they communicated well throughout this delay and it never really impacted us. They also followed up the work with the visit from another employee to ensure the work had been done correctly. I was very satisfied with the experience.

The estimator was very professional, was very thorough, and provided me with a lot of information about how they would do the work. He made me feel very comfortable that they would do a thorough and professional job. I received a second estimate from another contractor which was substantially lower, but didn't have the same level of confidence in the quality of work (and the amount of insulation they suggested was less than what Ray St. Clair recommended), I called to ask if they could work with me on the price, which they did. On the day of the installation, they called to let me know the previous job was running late, took great care to minimize dust, worked quickly, asked me to check their work before leaving, and did a great job cleaning up (couldn't even tell they had been there). Their estimator gave me the sense that they would be professional, do a great job, and that the extra cost would be justified, all of which turned out to be true.

I went with another highly recommended contractor that could do the work at a lower price but still mid-stream with all quotes I solicited. I've always heard two things about Ray St. Clair Roofing and I believe them to be true based on my experience: 1) They have excellent quality. 2) Their prices are the highest in town so you are really paying a premium for that quality and their marketing budget.
Description of Work: Requested a bid on a tear off and installation of 30 year shingles. A visit to inspect the job for quote was promptly scheduled. The person providing the quote was very professional and provided details about their quality of workmanship for each phase of the job.

From start to finishm the all representatives of the company were prompt, courteous and efficient. All appointments were on time (almost to the minute). The estimator was very knowlegable and came prepared with catalogs and samples. His estimate was complete and in writing. The work crews finished the project in 2 days. They left very little mess behind. A quality control inspector met with us after the job was complete to answer questions. The billing representative was also very courteous when I called with a question. I would recommend Ray St Clair to my friends and would not hesitate to use them again.

From start to finish I was very pleased.
Description of Work: Ray St. Clair sent a representative 2 weeks after I called for an estimate. I was given a complete description of the work that would be done as well as an examination of the gutter helmet that would be installed. I was told that it was a busy time (summer demands) and it would take 4 to 6 weeks. I needed the job to be completed before that time and 2 weeks later, Mr. Levitt made special arrangements to get the job done earlier than anticipated. During the 2 hottest days of August, when the temperatures reached 100 degrees, my gutter helmets were installed and the workers never stopped until the job was done. The area was cleaned up and I have not regretted the cost for the superior work that was performed.

The door is excellent and the installation professional. The salesman, Sean Goddard, followed up with me to see whether everything was to my satisfaction. He also made sure that the installation was coordinated with the remodel process so that it would not interfere or cause issues with the total remodel being done.
