Ray St Clair Roofing

They were good. We have used them twice. Overall everything went well. The quality was good but the pricing is a little high.

I called them a few times to make sure the estimate was all stuff I needed and to figure out how I needed to pay/ when I needed to do the down payment, they always answered and I didn't have to wait on hold a long time. The estimate guy was very nice and helpful at explaining everything to me. Took them a while to come out and a few days to finish the job left me nice cards in my mail box updating me on the status of the job since I was at work when they came out. The only thing I wish they had done better is giving me the pictures of the damage and taking a picture of the repair also so I could see what they did but it doesnt seem to be leaking anymore.

The installer appeared at the specified time, and removed the leaking skylight. Installation of the new one was pretty straightforward; he was done in a reasonable time. He cleaned up thoroughly after he was done. The installation appears very professional, and there have been no leaks since.

Have used Ray St. Clair several times, for varying roof/gutter projects, always satisfactorily. Notable experience: in 2005 they replaced a very large, flat metal porch roof, which took several weeks. Cost, about $20,000 (they're on the high side, but absolutely worth it). A year or so ago, we noticed some pinholes and rust in a large area of the roof and called Ray St. Clair. Long story, but it turned out that the metal used in about two-thirds of the roof was defective and thoroughly rusted from underneath - clearly a manufacturing defect, The rest of the roof was in perfect condition, so the problem was clearly not the workmanship, which was excellent. Ray St. Clair replaced the entire roof with even heavier metal, with baked-on finish, and I now have a better roof than five years ago (I believe the baked-on material was not available in 2005). There was no charge at all for the re-work, and not even a suggestion that I pay part of the expense. They completed the entire job, including cleanup and finishing touches, with the same care and professionalism as they had with earlier projects. Lesson: On occasion I've tried to save money on projects by using lower-cost companies, and have almost always regretted it. This is a perfect example of why it makes sense to use top-rated companies. I wouldn't think of using another roofer in the future.

I have had numerous leaks and they have come right out and inspect and do the job. It's never as cheap as you would like it but the cost is reasonable. They send somebody out to inspect it when it's done. They have always been very conscientious. I have had cheaper roofers but you get what you pay for. Its worth what you pay when you have a leak.

In all cases, someone came and looked at the work to be done and gave us an estimate. They also told us how they would proceed to handle the repairs and why certain repairs were being made. After the work was done, the person on the job told us and showed us what had been done.

We got an attorney involved, and threatened them with legal action. They were not capable of working on a historical home.

Very professional! Even included a quality control staffer checking on the work as well as our satisfaction as the work progressed, I called on a Saturday morning with information and questions. Certain I got the representative (RIchy) out of bed. He graciously handled the call. Wow! They told us when they would arrive and leave each day. What they are going to do. And they do that. And come and go as forecast.

Second good experience with this company. Everything as expected. One humorous incident: I went to their showroom to pay the bill in person, only to have the angriest dog I have ever seen come charging straight at me as soon as I set foot inside. It was a beagle, I think. I stood motionless and amused as the embarrassed staff rounded him up. Thanks for the laugh! I still tell the story two months later.

The estimator came a the time designated by the service department. A formal quote was mailed a short time later. Due to my business schedule, and the fact that I preferred to be home when the work was done, I did not call back for some time. When I did make contact, he returned and reinspected the necessary repairs and suggested that they perform the work on a 'time and material' basis. I agreed that was the logical approach, given some uncertainty regarding the extent of the repair necessary after the siding was removed. The work was completed 3 weeks later. The repair seamlessly matches the original custom style. All work was done in a professional manner and a thorough cleanup was done before they left. The tech's were polite and courteous. The final invoice was approximately 20% below the 'Not-to-Exceed' price we had agreed upon when the work was scheduled. I intend to use the company again in the future for window replacement, and other repair work. and

It was a great service! They did a great job and found some additional problems with my roof that I will have fixed later. They were very tidy and cleaned up after themselves.

The quote and scheduling was quick and easy. They told us up to 8 hours depending on possible issues that could come up. The job only took less than 3 hours. The workers helped us by taking before and after pictures to prove that the job was completed. The job went well and looked good. The cleanup was the only issue we had. My pregnant wife was the only one there and she asked them about cleaning up insulation that dropped out of the access as well as insulation spread out from trips through the house. The one guy said that the other would "get the big pieces". She was stuck cleaning up all the little pieces plus many larger pieces. This seemed unprofessional to me based on dealings I've had with other repair and roofing companies. I know it's minor is relation to everything that took place before it but left a bad impression for us. I would be cautious in using this company if the job was large and a lot of the work took place "out of sight".

I had to watch their work constantly. They corrected anything that I asked them to, but I feel like I shouldn't have had had to supervise. They were so busy that they had to subcontract some work. The workers we did have were good though.

Called for an estimate. Was told they would call back. Still waiting for that call. Went ahead and used someone else.

Did exactly what they said they would. They were on time and the estimate was right on.

I didn't go with them. They were very friendly. They gave me a very thorough quote. He really went into detail on all the things he saw that need to be done. He explained what all the different costs would be. They also sent pictures that they had taken, within a day or two, in the mail on what he had seen on my roof. They were quite a bit more expensive than the other quotes I got. They definitely had the most expensive figure.

He's extremely professional and accomodating

The gutters over about half the house began sagging noticeably. We could see where the company that installed the gutters about 10 years ago, did not secure them to the rafters, but just to the fascia. St. Clair secured them to each rafter. T The three workers arrived on time, worked a full day, and cleaned up afterward. The workers did forget to bring a long extension cord. We had one, of course, but you would think that would be an essential item for most jobs. The estimate was about 10 % higher than the other 2 I got, but their follow-up, efficiency and thorough explanation of the problem and solution, along with their reputation, made me decide to hire them and I would use them again. Their estimate was more thorough than other contractors provided. And, they did the job for the estimate. With an older home, we knew there would be the possibility of more difficulties. I did have them estimate another repair at another house, but the cost difference was so substantial I went with the lower bid. That work is being done now so I don't know yet if I will regret that decision.

After reading the estimate of repairs to my roof I concluded that either they had given me an estimate for someone else's home or they really were not interested in doing the work. Personally I think the latter. Ray St. Clair roofing was more than twice what other reputable companies were estimating. I could buy a new full sized pick-up for their estimate! They ignored my request for like in kind replacement so I had something to actually compare to, and they immediately went to a high end upgrade, which by they way was still priced too high. I have no doubt Ray St. Clair Roofing performs quality work, however he is pricing himself out of the market for the same quality that other Angie's List companies are performing at a fair and reasonable price.

They did a good job, everything went good. They cleaned up after themselves.

My only complaint is that it took about 6 weeks until they were able to do the work. In the meantime, we had an active leak in the dining room that continued to cause damage and mold growth. However, once they were able to get to my project, the crew was courteous and professional. I will continue to use Ray St. Clair for our roofing/gutter needs.

His price was very high. I wasn't here when he actually did the inspection. He left me some detailed information and emailed me on everything that needed to be done. He also sent me some pictures that he had taken on my roof of the problems by mail. He was punctual. The flashing of the chute that goes up from my range hood was gone and he went ahead and cocked it whether he got the job or not. I thought that was outstanding since most people will not do anything till they are actually paid.

We called Ray St. Clair Roofing because we had water damage on the ceiling and assumed it was a result of the roof. Since we had recently put an addition on the house. The estimator was very professional. After inspecting the roof, he knew right away what the problem was. He took pictures on the roof so he could easily show us what was wrong and how they would correct the problem. He sent us a bid a few days later and we scheduled the work for 2 weeks after that (seemed a bit lengthy, but I think that was due to all of the storms we've had in the area lately). The only thing I did not like about the experience was that they wanted 20% down before they would even schedule an appointment for the repair work to be completed. I explained this to the office and they agreed to schedule the appointment with me first (I had time constrictions that I needed to make sure could be met before I was willing to engage them).

They were ok. There were lots of phone calls, but little action. The communication between the office and the workers was poor. They were supposed to perform a final inspection before sending an invoice. However, they did not. When an inspector finally did come out, he found some issues which needed to be corrected. Also, they failed to include our discount on the invoice even after being reminded. It was applied after we brought it to their attention several times.
