"When gutters are installed correctly and sloped correctly, you generally do not need more than 1 downspout per straight gutter run (especially when the gutters were only about 25 feet each, as was the case with this customer). We took down 2 sets of gutters for this customer. One on the back of the house and one on the front. This is why they only got 2 downspouts. You want the gutter to slope to one side so that water goes to a downspout and flows away from the house. Your old (50 year old) gutters had a downspout on each side, which is overkill when installing new, seamless gutters with a good slope running from one side of the house towards the new downspout. As far as the "holes" created from the old gutters. This was never brought to our attention, so it's hard speculate what the problem was. My assumption is that where the old downspouts connected to the brick of the home there were some holes after tearing them off. But they never told us about this problem, so who knows, but I'm glad their complaint made it on to Angie's list. Also, this customer never pointed out the paint chipping problem and never allowed us to correct it. Chimney flashing - When I met with this customer. The member clearly asked that we not replace the chimney flashing, because they just had it replaced. It was not in the contract to replace. They called me a year later saying they had leaks at their chimneys and asked if we could re-do their flashing. I explained that we could, and because there was some confusion about it being done in the first place, I would do it at cost. I pay my roofers $150 to reflash chimneys. We typically charge $350-$500 to reflash a chimney. They never called me back. The next time I heard from them was this posting. Ironically, our only Angie's list posting - awesome."
