This has to be one of the most bizarre experiences I've ever had on Angie's list, I'm not sure if I should be insulted or relieved. I found Perino builders who happens to be the only homebuilder that advertises a price per square foot on their website, I thought that was intriguing and called the company. I had a lengthy conversation with Pat Perino the owner, it didn't take long for us to determine that we know some mutual people as well as us both being members of reciprocal country clubs. None of that makes much of a difference to make I care about price and references. We agreed to meet later in the week and set the time for 11 AM March 20 2014. Pat called to confirm the appointment that morning, I was impressed because most builders are simply not that punctual. 11 A.m. came and went.. so I waited... And waited... And then around 1115 he called me and said that the house was abandoned? My assumption was that he clearly went by the wrong house however confirm the address and he said "I just went by the house, it looks abandoned". It hit me at that moment, I didn't know whether not to laugh or be offended... He was literally telling me that my house was not "good enough" for him to work on. I assumed that there had to be some kind of misunderstanding.... So I asked him again to turn around and come down the driveway so I could show him the property. These exact answer was "I'm not interested". I said, "not interested"? not interested in what? He says "that's not the kind of house I work on!" Angie's list is anonymous so I have no reason to toot my own horn or try to impress anyone reading this. Here's what the genius must have missed.... When I purchased this house it was listed for $799,000 ( I won't say what I paid) I have a small car collection which includes a 14,000 mile Bentley Continental Flying Spur which is why I needed a new garage with the wash bay. This property sits on 5 acres in Aurora with a stocked 1 acre lake. I could go on however there's no point, I think my entire adult life I have never seen such a sophomoric display of ignorance from anyone. I guess he's never heard of the millionaire next door LOL. Bottom line, no harm no foul... Based on my interaction with him I'm pretty sure that I would've used in any way however if you call this company, your price from him will be strictly contingent on how much money he thinks you have. PS in our initial conversation I told him that I would provide the architectural drawings and look for a bid off of that. He said absolutely not, we use our own architect and charge the customer $1500. That should've been a big red flag and I should've just said thanks anyway.
