I can't thank Dirk enough for helping us out when we needed it! He went out of his way to find a solution to take care of our critter problem when there was no one else who could. JW, one of his crew, was also great to work with! He was very personable and thoughtful and cares about wildlife, which is important to us. I highly recommend Dirk and his team - thanks again, guys!

I saw several holes in my front yard with animal movement in one. I was concerned because I thought they might be squirrels. There was (and to date) no activity in my home. I called one company and told them I suspected squirrels and they wanted an exorbitant price just to come over and do an inspection. On May 20th, I called The Wildlife Control Company and spoke to Dirk. He told me they were rabbits and not squirrels and not to worry that they would go away in a few weeks at most. He said that he didn't have to come over unless I wanted to waste my money. I really appreciate Dirk's honesty. If I do have an animal removal issue in the future, I know who to call. Thanks Dirk!

He went over the pricing with me and came out in two days. He inspected around the whole house and found another area, a woodpecker damaged hole, that needed repairs as well. I agreed to have him work on that area as well and he was very prepared and took action right there. The estimate was very detailed and had no surprises. He also gave his phone number and remained available 24 hours if something came up. He was very responsive, competent, very efficiently organized, was very prompt, and in 4 days he had the problems resolved. He was a very nice person, very accommodating, and I would highly recommend him.

All went very well. I knew of Dirk's work from the first job and that was so great that I did not hesitate to call on him again when we found the remains of a deer in our yard. I knew he would be able to help me. I would call on this company again. They are very professional and prompt with solutions to your petty problems.

I was extremely pleased with the services of this company. Dirk, the owner, looked at the roof, set the traps, evacuated the squirrels and then patched the opening. I have had this problem in the past but this is the first time it has been solved. I would highly recommend this company to anyone!

Didn't catch any skunks. Got one possum. Weather turned cold. Will resume trapping in warmer weather.

"Thank you for taking the time to review our services. Cold weather does a number on a lot of species, including me!!!! Keep an eye out for skunks around Valentines Day, as breeding season is kicking in and the skunks are feeling amorous. There's some truth in the old "Pepe LePew" cartoons. Let me know if you see or smell any, we don't want the dog getting sprayed again if we can prevent it!!! Sincerely, Dirk E Shearer, President The Wildlife Control Company, Inc."

I don’t know the cost, my wife paid it. They did fine. I wasn’t involved in the initial call or that, I was just doing the reporting on a day basis on whether or not there was a catch. It went fine. To get all the squirrels, it took close to a month and a half. It was easy to call in every morning and report, I appreciated that. It saved the money on them having to come out to take a look at the traps.

Wildlife Control placed a trap near the hole which we checked every day to see if an animal had been caught. We called every day to report whether there had been a capture or not. After about a week, a squirrel was caught. Wildlife Control came during the day to remove and release far away. After about a week with no additional captures, they removed trap and patched the hole.

The Wildlife Removal Company was hired to inspect animal scratching from inside bedroom wall. An estimate of $189 service fee and $69 per animal fee was provided during initial phone call and at the time the owner visited the site. The service fee was to cover the on site inspection and animal removal for a period of 30 days. No written estimate or other information is provided. I was told I'd receive a copy of statement and breakout of services rendered upon completion. However, when the owner visited my site, the inspection was merely a speculation based on what could be seen from the outside of my home from the ground. The owner pointed out a visible hole in my roof that could be seen from below, also raccoon prints on a neighbor's water spout and what he believed to be their path to my roof. The conclusion or plan was to then set one raccoon trap along side my neighbors home where the path was suspected. However, neither my roof or attic was ever inspected in order to determine entry points, activity, or to verify the depth of the issue in order to arrive at a solution. I expressed my concerns multiple times in this matter, requesting my roof and attic area be inspected to no avail. My calls and messages were rarely acknowledged or addressed. The placement of the trap was in an area that could easily attract non target animals. Three raccoons were caught using the company's trapping techniques, but there is no guarantee that those animals they charge $69 per catch are actually even the problem animals or random animals in the neighborhood that appreciated the bait snack. Yet this was the only method initiated by this company which would prove highly expensive and ineffective when the source of issue and entry points not thoroughly investigated. There was a period of 4-5 days were no activity could be heard. The company was provided this information through the daily 'catch or no catch' hotline. At this point I inquired if we would move on to the next steps in inspection and sealing entry point but received no response. However, a couple days after that, the scratching was back and I noticed the trap was removed without my knowledge or consent. After finally getting in touch with the owner, I was informed the trap was removed based on my message (now almost a week ago) that I didn't hear any sound, but that the trap would be reinstalled. We were now at the start of week #3 and there was no indication my roof or attic would ever be inspected. I was given excuses how the attic may be unsafe since the animals may be aggressive or due to weak floor boards and how the roof also presented dangers and the other specialist wasn't fond of heights. Instead the owner offered to do the 'paper test' where the assumed entry hole would be stuffed with paper and monitored for movement/disturbance which would indicate the animals were still present. Two days later, still no trap, no paper, no communication. At this point I decided best to terminate services with this company and start over with a new one (who by the way were very professional and performed a THOROUGH inspection for less than half the fee of the Wildlife Control Company and discovered the true entry point on my roof and nesting area in my home). I was highly dissatisfied with the service I was provided and believe this company did not perform with due diligence and integrity. It seems the goal was to do the least amount of work possible while making as much money as possible in animal collection fees by simply setting out a trap and catching who knows what from where. This gives customers a false elusion that progress is being made when they may in fact be left with the same issue after paying a hefty bill due to negligence. Given the inadequate service I received in the areas of communication and the lack of a thorough inspection/approach, I believe a $189 service fee + $69 per catch is highly unreasonable and unethical. A big waste of time and money.

They got rid of two squirrels. They honored a discount for me. It still cost a lot of money for me for the work that they did.
Response from The Wildlife Control Company Inc

"Price - The price we charged was the price you were quoted before we even came out to your property. If you found the price un agreeable, the time to decide that was right then, not after the work was completed. We gave you a discount as well without you presenting the coupon at all. Quality - You hired us to remove squirrels, which we did. In fact, we caught the first squirrel within 24 hours of setting the trap. Responsiveness - This may be the only thing you have reason to grade us as a D. You requested we seal the entry point prematurely. Yes we did not do exactly what you requested when you requested it. However, our policy is to go 3-5 days without a capture and with no new noises prior to sealing entry points. This ensures we do not trap an animal inside the structure or perhaps seal one out that may cause additional damage to your home. We discussed our reasoning with you and delayed sealing the entry point based on over 20 years of experience. Punctuality - We came to your property on the appointed date and called you 1/2 hour ahead just as we discussed. We came out and retrieved captured animals on the day they were captured. Other than sitting and watching the traps I don't know how we could have been more punctual. Professionalism - We know animals. Had we sealed an animal inside your house by conducting the requested repairs prematurely, that would have been UNPROFESSIONAL. We know better. We had one client who hired us after he did just what you requested and he had $12000 worth of damage from squirrels because of it. We have had other clients who have done the same (except they sealed them out without capturing first) and had over a hundred square feet of shingles ripped off their roof by animals trying to get back in. What you requested was a recipe for problems. If we had done so, it would have been gross negligence on our part. You also admonished my technician for smiling while talking to you. Being pleasant and smiling while talking with clients is an attribute I prefer in my technicians. Overall, your evaluation is a misrepresentation of our personnel and our company as a whole. Recommended by our pest control company. Dirk was professional and punctual. He indicated there was a fee of $189 just to do the inspection for bats. Of the three quotes we got his was the most expensive service for the least amount of work. In fact, it was cheaper to go with another company AND pay this inspection fee AND we still got more work completed. His verbal "ballpark" estimate was significantly less than his written estimate. The written estimate was fiddled with spelling mistakes. I would not recommend him.
Response from The Wildlife Control Company Inc

"Thank you for taking the time to evaluate our services. Sorry about the spelling. In an effort to get you the estimate in a timely manner, I put it together in your driveway using a new app based system for the estimate. As an "old" guy, I did not have my reading glasses. I will use your comment to ensure I either have my glasses so I can check my spelling or go back to the office and use my computer so I catch any spelling issues. I base ballpark estimates on the information provided by the client. Often times that information is not all encompassing of the existing situation. If you got all the work done at a significantly lower price than we quoted, that is a fantastic deal and good for you. I have a family, so I understand looking for a deal. Often times I go with the cheapest too, but not always. One thing I always say though, if everyone always went the cheapest route, none of us would have a job. There is always someone who is cheaper in every line of work. In any case, if you have additional issues and the quality of the other service provider doesn't pan out, feel free to give me a call. They informed me there was no access to replace pipe, yet they charged me full price, 268. Didn't give me invoice, told it will dipole by mail, it still didn't come yet. I don't have detailed info what service I was charged 268 for. Same day there was no sound the next day I heard  babies cry and their mom was outside crazy . I called them right away but they were not available same day and next morning I was not their first priority still. I ended up climbing the ladder myself and removed the cover. Luckily mom came back, babies survived. After I did that , they came without phone call and they disturbed the nest from outside again, knocked on my door and  let me know there was nothing they could do , after they left, they scared little ones, caused them move deeper inside the vent, one of them moved directly over my restroom,  I was relieved later when it found its way back to the nest and mom was feeding them. All this experience caused so much distress for us, especially for my daughter.  I also ended up with some scratches on my hands after climbing the ladder and using screwdriver to remove the cover . I normally afraid of heights , don't use ladders , especially tools while on ladder. but this time it had to be done and they were not available to save the birds. Also  I called them asking for some money back, I was told ' absolutely not!'.  After cover was removed and babies survived, my restroom smelled bad, there was concern of disease and noise. I ended up  not knowing what to do next, after googling, found a good company A All Animal Control/ 6144847072. They were very punctual, inspected situation and gave me professional advise to wait till babies leave the nest, run air to encourage them to leave. They just came back today, 6/1/2016,  the babies were out, used vacuum , disinfected , removed most of nest they could, put cover one with better quality screws. They were very professional and polite, and even apologetic after I shared the info, they apologized for their fellows by this type of business and even offered good discount for this! I am grateful to A All Animal Control. I know who to call next time.
Response from The Wildlife Control Company Inc

"Thank you for taking the time to evaluate our services. I am happy you were able to have your situation resolved. On our second visit we notified you that you would need to wait until the chicks left on their own, due to a damaged flex pipe that allowed the chicks to escape into the floor joists. There was no way to access them without cutting holes in the ceiling. Once the chicks were out, we would return and perform the additional services at no additional fee. You did not notify us when the birds were gone so we had no opportunity to complete the job. The odor was from decomposing nesting material and bird waste. I would still recommend you have an HVAC company replace the vent pipe. Any holes in it will allow moist air from the bathroom to enter the void in the floor, possibly creating mold issues. Several good services are available here on Angie's List. Sincerely, Dirk E Shearer, President The Wildlife Control Company, Inc. www.YourOhioWildlifePro.com"

I showed the technician where raccoons where getting into the walls through the kitchen exhaust vent. This was 8 years ago. The tech put traps on the ground under the vent and successfully trapped some animals. A second tech took over at the owner's suggestion. He said the animals were getting in via the roof vent, not the kitchen vent. He said he was more experienced than the first tech and found animal footprints on the roof. He relocated the traps and caught more animals. He installed a ;heavy screen over the attic power vent, but I was not satisfied since the screen was visible from the front of my house. When I complained to the owner, I was told there would be an additional charge. I objected to that and was not charged. After the work was completed, I noticed that some of my stucco was chipped where traps were set. I never mentioned this to them since the invoice states "Not responsible for damages..."
Breakdown of charges: $170 for service fee with senior discount. $69 per animal removed. $150 for the attic fan guard.

cages were put on the ground not where they were getting into the attic so it was impossible to know if offending animals were caught. the cost of disposing of each trapped animal was not clearly explained. I also thought that the control company would remove the cages when they caught the most likely offending animals.  The cost per animal was quite high $69. if I had known how expensive each animal was I would have stopped at 2.  they also said they would clean up and repair damage in the attic.  It took several calls to the office to get them to come look at the attic. it was 2 months later.  the estimate for the work seemed quite high and I felt that I had already paid an excessive amount of money so I got a second estimate from a regular insulation company. they were able to do all the work for less than half the estimate from Wildlife Control.  If they did not want to do the cleanup they should have told me up front. They were either hoping I would not get another estimate or they really do not want to do that kind of work.  I would strongly suggest contacting more than one of these companies to get more than one estimate.  I feel taken advantage of.

Response from The Wildlife Control Company Inc

"I am surprised that any client that I have had over the last twenty plus years would not be clear about the charge we have for each animal we capture. I state the charge per animal on the initial phone call, it is clearly printed on the work order we typically have signed before we begin work as well. I apologize that we did not get you the estimate for cleaning out your attic as timely as you would have liked. It does not surprise me that an "insulation" company might do a cleanout for much less than we charge. They typically are not educated about the diseases, such as histoplasmosis and or raccoon round worm that need to be addressed during an attic remediation with animal feces and urine throughout the attic. Their crews typically are not outfitted with the needed Personal Protective Equipment, such as full protective suits, full face respirators with the appropriate filters, clean air supply if needed, negative pressure fans if needed, or a filtration system on the vac sytem they are using. If I took away all the safety gear we use I could certainly reduce our price as well but that would not be the responsible thing to do Saving money is important. As a father of four I certainly understand that. Hopefully they were properly educated, trained, and equipped to minimize any health or safety issues that could arise for you and your family. Sincerely, Dirk E Shearer, President The Wildlife Control Company, Inc."

I will go on to next exterminator. Ironically - this is the first time I used Angie's List. The firm had an "A" rating and I am a little surprised at how they handled this call.

Response from The Wildlife Control Company Inc

"I do remember speaking with you as I was inspecting the attic of a church. I do not remember scheduling your work. If I wrote the info on a scrap of paper while I was in the attic I must have lost it. I checked the back of my glove so I know it wasn't on there. In any case, you stated that I told you we would be out Monday morning. I know this could not have been the case, as we spend our mornings picking up animals we have captured the previous day and, due to this fact, we almost never give a specific time for coming out but always try to call first about a half hour ahead of time. Be that as it may, as I tried to speak with you about your issue and see if I might be able to get someone out for you right away you hung up. I wish I could say that I am perfect and have never misplaced a note I wrote, or missed an appointment but that would be a lie. I apologize if I missed scheduling your work and inconvenienced you. Though, had you stayed on the phone with me, rather than hanging up I can guarantee you were going to get a dang good deal. They were easy to work with, especially their call in system to avoid extra cost if no animal trapped the night before. They were friendly and efficient. They removed 2 groundhogs, 2 racoons, and 1 possum in 6 days. We were initially interested in removing the groundhogs, and those were caught within the first 2 days. The other 3 animals were caught while we were continuing to monitor for more groundhogs. We could have chosen to have the other animals released back onto our property if we so desired, but didn't. After we felt certain the groundhog problem was taken care of, we asked them to remove the traps/cages on the 7th day and they did. They then invoiced us promptly.

The swifts are a protected species, so we must wait for them to leave on their own. That information is all that I received for my $181.68.The fee included no other service such as removing the nest and mess later or capping the chimney. Five minutes and $181.68 poorer, I still have swifts in the chimney and a future chimney cleaning and capping cost of approximately $250 from another company. He told me over the phone about the $169 charge (tax added later), yet he was vague about just what that charge covered. Basically, he made $169 for five minutes of expert information. Not bad wages per hour!
Response from The Wildlife Control Company Inc

"Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I was not able to make a clear diagnosis over the phone, thus the necessity of making a site visit. Noises in the chimney can be a variety of things, the most common is raccoons. We have also had squirrels, bats, and other birds, such as starlings, owls, and wood ducks. Even though owls and wood ducks are protected species, we are allowed to remove them and release them on site (because they are stuck, not nesting). If they are under duress, we may also transport them to a licensed Migratory Bird Rehabber. As you now know, chimney swifts are protected by International Treaty, Federal law and State law. Had we made any attempt to remove them or drive them out we would be in violation of the law and subject to a prison term, fine, and loss of our license. We simply WILL NOT put ourselves in that situation. We did not offer chimney cleaning services because we are not properly trained in chimney inspections or cleaning and do not have the required equipment to perform those services. If we do not feel qualified to provide a professional quality service we don't do it. Since chimney caps are installed to keep animals out, in most cases we offer them. These are at an additional fee based on size, material, and degree of difficulty in installation. If there are safety concerns (lift or rappelling gear required), or the chimney is in disrepair (brick, tile, or crown crumbling) we may fore go that offer. If none of these conditions are present, I apologize if the technician who serviced your account neglected to offer a price for a cap. At no time will we provide services that place our staff in undue jeopardy or place our license at risk by violating the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty. The fines are huge and the ramifications are best left for less scrupulous service providers to deal with. As I am sure the technician advised, your best course of action is to wait until the swifts leave to migrate to South America, have your chimney professionally inspected, cleaned, and cap the chimney to prevent their return. There are several quality Chimney Sweeps (some who recommend us for their animal removal situations) listed here on Angie's List.
