Great, easy to explain what we wanted and they did just that

After initial email correspondence, waited 2 weeks without hearing anything. Contacted them again to see if they still wanted the job. They showed at the property unannounced, cut 6 limbs on 1 tree, the 2nd tree looks untouched, left the pile of branches.

Very professional over the phone. They were prompt in providing me a quote that was $295 for the small dead tree and a limb. After exploring several other services, I called back and asked if they would also take a small branch off of the willow tree that was next to the dead tree. The response was "no problem". There was no mention of an additional charge as it was a small limb that I could have done myself with a ladder. The other companies shared that since it was just a small limb that they would do at no charge. They arrived on time with a large boom truck and pulled into my neighbors driveway. I was concerned that they used the neighbors driveway without permission but all of the work was done and the team did a nice job of cleaning up. The problem came when I received my bill for $401.25 which as 27% more than the quote. I called James Tree Service to express my concern and the response was "what, you expect me to take off the willow tree limb for free? No, I just would have wished that you would have been honest up front when I called and shared that you were going to charge me an additional $85 for a small limb that was next to the dead tree that was being removed. I chose James Tree service because of Angies List. They were not my cheapest quote at $295 but I was willing to pay more for good service. My experience is that they were not honest up front took my ask as an opportunity to significantly raise the price. I would not recommend them to other consumers. If you do chose James Tree Service please make sure you ask for a total price including any add-ons with details on the services in the quote so that you do not have my same experience.

The men were very polite and professional.  Was amazed with the clean up, left no brush behind.  Charged me exactly the estimate that was given.  I would hire him again.

I was very satisfied with the service. They did a great job.

Before I purchased my house, the previous owner cut down a tree that had a roughly 3 foot diameter. Nothing grew over the stump and as it rotted, I would periodically step into a pit a couple of feet deep (not safe).
A friend decided that we should dig it out, which we did, and there was about 4 inches of dirt on top of the stump. We dug around the stump and used certain equipment that I own to cut out about 100 pounds of very large roots. That was when we decided that we needed professional help.
I started with a large provider that was very close. It took them a few days to send me an email telling me a quote would be left in my door. A few days later, still no quote, so I gave up on them and called James Tree Service. I was told (essentially) and quot;my brother Joel handles that side of the business, here is his cell phone numberand quot;, so I called his brother. I was given a rough quote over the phone, which was sufficient to me.
Joel called before he arrived, said and quot;how about $100and quot;, followed by and quot;you want me to follow those large rootsand quot;, and then he went to work. I thought that he would have trouble since the stump was already below grade. Nope, he ripped through that stump like it was butter. He went much deeper than I expected (yeah), and then followed the large roots, some of which were 8and quot; in diameter.
Joel was very thorough, and he greatly exceeded my expectations. I surely did not expect that he would be able to follow the large roots that were still below grade.
I was very impressed, and, this is exactly the type of person I desire to do business with. I wish I had called him 8 years ago!

They removed the tree and ground the roots. I would recommend them.

Cut down trees and ground down stumps

I had use their services several times. They are always friendly and professional. Due to the storm they were able to provide service in a timely manner. I will continue to use them and would recommend theirs services to others.

I called Owen James to tell him that I needed an estimate for removal of lilac bush and gave him location of same on the property. He advised that he would get someone out to look at the job the next day, and then give me a call. If it was possible to be removed without bringing out the big equipment, he would give me a estimate and remove same day if I approved. He called and told me how much it would be to remove the bush and then grind the stump. I gave permission for the work to be done, and when I got home the bush was gone.
We won't be planting a new bush in this spot until spring, so I won't know until then if the stump was removed successfully.

Other companies had quoted it at $3,500.00 and this company did it for $2,000.00. He took him a little bit of time coming out. He gave me the rough estimate. When i was able to get back in touch with him. he came out 3 weeks later and they had to stop at one point to wait for me to get an electrical company out. Once the electrical company came out they were able to finish the job. He also trimmed another tree that hung over the house. He was very accomidating. I would use them again in the future.

I was very happy with them. They were very fast. They were very professional. I paid them after the job was done. I really liked talking with them. Their price was good than other tree service companies, which I used for getting quotes. They were very knowledgeable. They actually responded me immediately when I called them. If there is a need, I would use them again in the future too.

They came in quickly and were responsive. I would recommend everyone, who uses their service, to take a quote, before in hand. They were little expensive, than expected. I would still recommend their service for the responsiveness and quickness. I will use them in the future.

They were fast, efficient, and nice guys. Although I was a little surprised the estimate was different than the bill (which was higher) and confused by it, I know they are also really good guys, and Owen is a caring, hard worker. When a lot of other companies were gouging people for tree damage after the storm, James Tree took care in being fair with people and doing good work. Some companies might have tried to rack up costs by hiring a crane, etc., but they did the job with ropes and minimized any further damage by taking the time to cut the tree into pieces bit by bit. They worked with me when I had an idea to minimize damage also, and they were careful about their own safety too. We are having them back to finish up the job of other downed trees in the yard, now that things are slowing down after the storm. This is a family company too, and Owen's wife and young son came out; they were nice people.
