On a side note, I had referred a friend to Al / Down to Earth, who called several times and never received a call back. Apparently business is that good for Al. Either was it's very embarrassing for me to make a referral and have the service provider not even call him back. Oh well, you live and you learn - I trusted Al and had a good gut feel about him, only to be let down. I would never want to intentionally harm anyones business, but poor business practices and lack up professionalism and common courtesy leads to bad reputations and as everyone knows, word travels fast.
Recommendations for Al
-Ditch the answering service, they sound like a bunch of minimum wage telemarketers.
-You are a small business - give out your cell phone and answer it.
-Return calls - Especially from new prospects that were referred to you by a customer. In this case, it's cost you two customers.
In summary, the results we saw in less than a year we Al were fantastic. I had high hopes for Al as a long term service provider for me. Unfortunately, he dropped the ball and didn't seem to care. I have a new provider coming out in a couple of days to check out my lawn and provide a recommended course of action. They were recommended to me by a neighbor, I will hopefully be providing a positive review of them on Angie's List soon!
Whenever I have any questions or concerns regarding the lawn he has always patiently explained the problem and the possible solutions.
Infact I feel very happy when my neighbors ask me who takes care of my lawn and some have shifted to his company.
Ultimately the success of a good lawn is a good partnership between the lawn company and our own efforts in taking care of our lawn like sufficient watering etc .
