Tanning Salons
$45
I had (2) incidents of poor service and owner/management non-response, involving this business.

(1)  At the time of service purchase, I was offered and purchased, as a new customer, a 5 tans for $5 packet. After my first tan I decided to upgrade my account. I asked the receptionist to upgrade my account, and since I had not utilized the 5 for $5 packet option, to utilize those funds as part of the packet upgrade. The receptionist informed me that she could not refund or transfer the funds for the unused service (5 for $5).. The business had no posted refund policy. When asked, the receptionist could not tell me what their refund policy was. I asked the receptionist to contact her management for a decision. her response was that had had no way to contact anyone in the management. I asked what she was expected to do in these type, or emergent situations. She answered that she did not know.  I then wrote a detailed explanation of my request along with my full contact information and asked that the message be forwarded to whomever could resolve the issue.  After 3 days with no follow-up contact, I inquired about the follow-up with the same clerk.  I was told, by the clerk that she made the owner aware through phone and email contact.  As of todays date, I have not been contacted by anyone from the salon.

(2)  While tanning at Sundowner Tan, and in booth #15, the corner sitting table collapsed while I was seated on it.  As a result of the fall, I had some aggrevation to an old medical condition, which was minor in nature.  I examined the now dismantled seating structure to find it was not attached to the wall, but freestanding.  The stability of the seat relied on the wall (corner) it was positioned against, but contained no alternative source of attachment.  I informed the clerk of the incident upon leaving.  The clerk said the owner was aware of the situation and had arranged for someone to repair the seat, but it had not yet happened.  The clerk firther said she had been injured by the seat in that booth.  I asked, isince the owner was aware of the defective seat and had arranged to have it repaired, why that booth had not been taken out of service.  The clerk resonded that she didn't know.

I asked that the clerk make the owner aware of this addittional incident and have the owner contact me regarding the incident.  Not to my surprize, I again, have not heard from the owner or any representitive of Sundowner Tan.

February 28, 2012:
How do you counter a lie? The company's response was completely and totally untruthful. I am updating now because I spoke with one of the employees, outside of the salon, who told me she had been threatned with the termination of her job, if she did not lie about the incident, if asked about it by anyone. Truely pathetic. Addittionally, on the date of the booth table collapse, I called the Huber heights fire and rescue to report the incident. The dispatch logs are there. I don't believe I would call the authorities, who through their investigation would inspect the booth in question, if the incident were not true. Draw your own conclusions...
Response from Sundown Tanning
"On August 5th (Member) came in and bought a monthly unlimited and our new customer special. After tanning, he came out and asked our employee why the price was so high and he stated he wanted a refund. She told him our policy, and he did not agree with her response. He proceeded to curse at her asking that the owners call him and left the store. I came to the store 45 minutes after our employee called us and called the number on his account. I left a message stating that we would give him a refund for the package he bought; minus the price of a single session to pay for the tan he received that day. I was at the salon for two hours after I left a message and heard nothing back. The next day (Monday) we left two messages at the same number, one late morning and around dinner in hopes of catching him, but still no response. He came back to tan a week and a half later and continued to tan 15 more times at our salon without asking about a refund or mentioning the message on his answering machine. Our employees know our company policies and there are signs on the front desk stating them as well. We keep daily maintenance log for the salon. This room has never been logged and I have personally checked that room myself and the bench is securely fastened to the wall. We have made every effort to get back in touch with (Member) to rectify his refund request in August, but never heard back from him. We cannot refund his money because he was able to use our services and finish out his package. However, we would like to offer him half off monthly unlimited to come back and try us out again."
