We discovered a year later that the roof caps blew off part of the roof and allowed water into the attic.  The gutters fell off in a heavy snow.  The gutters needed facia board installed to properly hang, but they failed to advise us this.  They fixed the roof caps in a reasonable time.  However, I was going to pay them to fix the gutters before selling the house because we had a contract on the house.  They didn't bother to call me back until 4-5 weeks later after the house sold.  I hired another company to fix the gutters.  Overall, this was a horrible experience.  I had hired them to put a roof on my house in 2004, and they did a great job. Didn't happen this time.  I will not be buying another roof from them!

They were horrible. They really butchered the valleys and the shingles were starting to warp. We were having a lot of the shingles, the gravel was coming off and plugging up the gutters and everything. We got in contract after the hair storm, but it took them a year and a half before they were finally able to do our roof. Like I told them, I didn't care how long it took as long as we got a good job. I didn't want them using people just off the street to knock it out and everything. I wanted the bad wood replaced, I even wrote it in the contract that it would be replaced at such and such a cost. Finally when they got around to it they could rip it off and put a new one on. The roof was all warped. They came out and tore up some places and put new wood under certain areas in the front and still when you walk on it it's weak in some spots. They ended up taking the whole back off and redoing the back which was good. Then after about a year or maybe it was six months I called them about the way the gutter valleys were warping and the shingles just did look right and were just kind of bubbling up in high places and sometimes and places in others and at first they said yea we'll come out and then called back a couple months later and said nothing we can do. So the came out, I have to give them credit on that part of it. They did come out and re-do it, but after I had to jump through hoops and get in there personally and talk to the guy the charge in the Dayton office and all that, and threatening. It left me scratching my head to be honest with you. I heard they were a good company and neighbors in our area got stuff done quick and good. For us they didn't do a good job at all. I give them credit that they did come out after a year and re-do the roof in the front there because they had messed it up so bad. I hate to trash the company. They were horrible at times but at times they did come out and did fix it.

They did an excellent job. They were fast. When they set the date to be here, they came out and did all the analysis of what it would take. When they came, they arrived in force. They brought enough people with them. We have a fairly large roof but they got the thing done in two days. I guess they brought a cast of thousands; we had 15 out here working. As for the price, we couldn't beat it. It was done when we had a really bad hailstorm. The insurance covered it but we did three different asking and they were very competitive. As for the quality, they did it perfectly.

Contract was signed 3/12/2011 with Jason Hadden. During this time Jason discussed the services to be performed. They would clean up daily? which they did on the exterior.
Jason was to start the workers daily and check in? which he did not Promised to touch up paint if necessary? Never happened
Cover the walk up attic floor with tarps then clean up when finished/ did not happen, we had to do this removing 600 pounds of debrie
Workers on roof were to wear safty gear? They wore harnesses but not attached to safety lines ( This is a 2 !-2 story home with 7/12 pitch roof)

What actually happened ;
Crew arrived August 25-2011, set up and tore off, began installation
Crew arrived Augusted 26, 2011 and finished installation of roof wirh dormer work to be done soon.
Punch list was emailed September 18, 2011
Single worker arrived to cover dormer with siding to match our home and all exposed wood, the workmanship
was shoddy at best and later repaired. Siding was only install, no trim. When telling the installer we wanted the dormers maintanence free, He stated he was only told to side, so the underhang was left exposed/later completed on
September 25,2011 ( one month into project)
The flashing work on bay window did not line up and chaulking was terrible. Never repaired.
Leaf guard was install on one side of house that was half full of consruction debrie .

November 11, 2011 I called Scott Swan, Manager. The Company financed $4,000.00 @ 3 % interest and we had yet to received our repayment work. Discussed With Mr Swan that the flashing was not acceptable . He wanted to know if it leaked. Leaking was not our issue. He then said we needed a check for Jason Hadden to pickup for the leafguard. I told him all was included in bid. The extra leafgaurd that was disscussed for the garage was never received and had never been ordered. He checked our contract, said he would speak with Jason and then return our call. We are still waiting for that call.

Concerns:
They received 100% of their money (Deborah Swan stopped to get a check on October 1, 2011 which we had 1 hour notice on a Saturday) Jason had stated we would be billed two weeks after completion and money due 2 weeks later. and we have a new roof, 2 torn screens, bad flashing. No help from Stephen Ticner from home office. He reviewed our concerns and photo. Agreed it would be fixed. Never done!

Conclusion:
We did get a new roof, It looks nice, but the amount the misery we had to endure was uncalled for. The workers worked dawn to dusk to finshing in two day. If they had not rushed maybe screens would not have been torn, siding hammer marked' junk left in gutters and then covered up . In the end they just chose to ignore us until we quit bugging them. At this point in time it too late to salvage this relationship. Sherrif Goslin Dayton will not be welcome on our property. The home office will have to provide warranty work with a different group.

        • June 7, 2012 Called Jason Hadden with list of concerns Scheduled to stop by next day. As of Today 8/13/2013 still waiting .

"Some customers are not worth working with. It is hard to please everyone. We certainly tried and did extra work that was not part of the job. Also, some Angie's List customers keep updating there bad review over and over to try and make it hard on businesses. It gives you a real insight on what type of customer you are dealing with. We give great service and do awesome work! Most of our work comes from referrals! Sorry this customer feels this way."

They did a terrific job. They cleaned up very well and didn't damage any of our landscaping in the process. They came early and left early and we didn't have to worry about them. They will also come back if there are issues.

We were trapped in our home for days by a crew that did not speak English and rained down old shingles and piled them up on the back stairs. Didn't remove the debris promptly. the dimensional shingles are very high quality and look good. number of follow up work had to be done to correct for improper roofing installation and flashing around chimneys.

Response from Sherriff-Goslin Co
"[member name removed] You where not able use one door at your house because of safety and the debris was moved that day. You could go out other doors. We tore of 5 layers of shingles and the guys did a great job of clean up and not damaging your flowers. And when you needed service we came out right away. We added a damper vent for free 2 years after the job was done. Sorry you feel this way"

Overall very satisfied and I would contract with this company again. I felt the price was fair, the product and installation was very professional. Excellent job cleaning up the work site. My sky-light cap replacements took too long to address but once they did it turned out very nice. Craftsmanship and product type are both strengths of this company! Thanks for a job well done.

The bathroom vents needed roof vents. I called the company and they co-ordinated with Mike of Mike's Home Services and they hancled everything. The vents were installed within the week. Very punctual, efficient, good price.

They are very good. Expensive, but top notch. They did the job. I was having some problems with the siding. This was maybe a year after I had them put on the roof, then I had forgotten that they were just roofers, they didn't have anything to do with the siding. But I called them, thinking that they were responsible for that and the guy came out, I guess he is the owner, I don't know. He came out and even though his company had nothing to do with the sidings, he fixed the problem I was having and didn't charge me anything. And I've had some one to one interacting with him before - he is very, very professional and helpful and I was very impressed with the fact that when I finally realized that he didn't have anything to do with that, he went on and fixed it. That, to me, was very impressive. I thought they were expensive, but then again, it may have been very reasonable. It took them about six months or so to get to the job - they are very busy. I will absolutely use them again.

They came out and gave me an estimate on replacing a roof due to hail damage, I got two estimates and both were very close, I went with sherriff due their shingle choice and warrenty. They came out and installed the 2100 sq ft roof a couple weeks later in one day. After the work was completed they cleaned up everything and left everything exactly the way they found it.

When Sheriff-Goslin personnel said they were to do the roof, they said they would clean up. There was not one piece anywhere. They had perfectly cleaned up. They came when they said they would arrive. And they were gone at 3pm. They did exactly what they said they were to do. We were satisfied with their price and workmanship.

They did a great job with the roof but there are some things on the contract that they failed to follow up with. It actually took close to a year to get everything done. I won't use them again.

Met Scot Swan at the Dayton home show, and he told me that S-G employs all their workers year round, with benefits and fairly long tenures. I do appreciate hearing that the company is local and takes care of their workers, which I don't think is common in the industry. Their prices were on the high end, but that is OK if they do a good job and are an asset to the community.

The work went fine, very professional job (roofing is HARD work). They did do some siding repair with a sub, and the caulking job associated with that was just fair. We did ask for a new shutter, and Mr Swan agreed to look, but never followed up. Calls to the office were answered promptly, very courteous, but mostly calls weren't returned. Overall, you buy a new roof to get a new roof, not to have a relationship with the managers, although that would be nice. Not a lot of attention to details that weren't strictly related to the new roof.

Flash forward to May 2011, huge hailstorm, most of the roofs (rooves? :)) in the area were damaged. It took 2+ months to get them to come out, fair enough, it was a rare event. USAA found some dings in the flashing, but the roof looks OK and S-G agreed that it was fine. However, the storm tore one of the gutters. I tried to get S-G to call back about fixing that, but I went 6 weeks without a callback, with both my wife and I alternating calling them. You would think we would get the hint.

On the last attempt, I got a little testy and said I was going to reactivate my Angies list membership and post a review. Mr Swan called 10 minutes later. After a week or so, he sent someone to look, mumbled about rehanging the gutter, no further contact. Taking the hint, we found someone else to do the work.

In summary: quality work, high end price, and quot;best buddiesand quot; before you sign, little followup or extras. Don't expect much unless you are getting the whole roof, they don't really want the smaller jobs. If you really need something, threaten with Angie's list!

The company was very timely when it came to providing an estimate. However, I had to wait approximately 1 1/2 months to get the work done. While waiting, the communication was very poor as I had to call for updates as to when they planned to do the work each time - they never called me first. Once they did arrive to do the work - they did a GREAT job!! The roof looks outstanding and they finished the roof all in one day! We did find nails in the yard for a few days afterwards - despite the fact that they used a magnet device - but I guess you can't get every single nail. On the gutters, once again, they missed the stated start date but the gutters look nice as well.

Overall - good work but poor communication as to when the work was to be started.

The roof was replaced in 2002 by Sherriff-Goslin with their 30yr Art-Loc shingle after a major hail storm came through. Turns out they failed to provide the proper oversight over the roof installation and later admitted the workers failed to install the roof to established roofing standards, which caused my roof to leak. They attributed the lack of supervision to the increased workload in the region due to the hail storm--not an acceptable excuse if you're the (previous) homeowner paying $19,000 for a new roof. They did repair the roof leak but made no offer to repair the damage to the garage ceiling and wall due to the water seepage. A few months after this, when painting my house I identified there were several areas where there was no felt pad installed under the shingles--amazing! I sent photos to the corporate office in Michigan and the owner sent Scott Swam, the Dayton district manager, back out to confirm the improperly installed roof. They did send out a crew for an entire day, who in addition to the missing felt, also found multiple other areas that were improperly flashed, that also needed to be fixed. They also had to remove all the 16 penny nails left under the shingles from the toe boards from the 2002 install, that were buckling the shingles. They did finally fix everything, but the process took all summer and the initial interface with Scott Swam was tense and somewhat awkward, and I suspect here's why. When we purchased the house the previous owner, to their credit, had seen the very same leak in the garage ceiling, albeit much smaller, and had Scott come inspect it so they could sell the house in good faith with no roof leaks. Scott indicated the leak was old and didn't need repair. Withing 9 months after buying the house the leak continued and caused significant ceiling and wall damage--turns out he was wrong! So when I showed Scott the inspection report given to me by the previous owner indicating he said the roof was not leaking, he seemed to become very defensive. I also sensed he was not pleased that I went directly to corporate with the photos. Fast forward to today and another hail storm has just hit and and I need a new roof. Will I be calling Sherriff-Goslin--I don't think so. They've already proved they lack quality control when installing multiple roofs after storm damage--you only get one chance to make a first impression in my world.

I hired them because they have a very high rating on Angie's List. It took them a year to get here. It was after a storm and they were very busy and I understood that. My insurance company recommended them too. They were very expensive but they did a very good job. My insurance company paid for most of the cost. I am still happy with the work that they did. Most of the workers were fine. They were all very professional but for this one guy. I had some issues immediately after the roof was put on and they came out the next day and took care of all the issues. They came so quickly and took care of everything that it was amazing.
