The day they started the work, there were 2 guys. Apparently the one that would be doing the work, was a subcontractor and the other gentleman was from Pure Drywall and he did the running to get the corner bead and some some screws that were needed for a few pieces of the drywall (12 screws for about $6.00 extra). I was surprised when he left and the other guy would be working alone. I was told originally that all the mudding and taping could be done in one day and the sanding would be done the next morning. Well the contractor got about 2/3 done and said he would be back the next morning to finish the mudding and then come back later in the day to sand. Well it took him the rest of the next day to finish the mudding. After he left, there were quite a few areas that I went back and fixed. Tape that was coming loose, a ridge that wasn't filled in completely and quite a few nails that were missed. He was supposed to be back between 9:30 and 10:00 the next morning. Well, by noon he had not shown up!! I knew the business was closed, but I had Cliff's cell phone number so I called and left him a voice mail. Shortly after I called, another guy shows up and says my contractor was down the road at another job, he was running late and would be there soon.
When he finally got there an hour later, the first thing he asks me is if "I" had any plastic for him to put up!!!! I knew things were going to go downhill from there. There were 2 guys there sanding, but it was all done by hand...no electric sander, no vacuum. I did have plastic, but there was only enough for half the area to be covered, so they cut off a piece of what they had on my carpet and put it up on the other half. They did a poor job of taping it up so needless to say every room within 50 feet was totally covered with dust!!! The contractor was actually still going around mudding different areas too while the other guy was sanding! When they were done, they did NOT clean up anything except their own tools. They did not wash down the walls or vacuum the carpet. When they pulled up the plastic, there was chunks of plaster all over my carpet and tile floor. The outlet boxes were "full" of plaster as well. I had to take a screwdriver and hammer to chisel it out. I did check as much as I could for smoothness and did "feel" okay, but of course I am not the expert. Bad on my part, I complimented the guy on his work before he left because it did "look" pretty good. I also thought after they took all their tools out to the truck they would be coming back in to clean up. Needless to say, when they last tool was put in the truck, they jumped in and were gone!
The following weekend I had my father and brothers over to paint. As soon as that paint went up, you could see how bad a job this guy did!! The tape along the ceiling was very wrinkled and it shows bad through the paint. Alot of the nails in the ceiling show through. The post was 11 1/2" wide and instead of putting a smooth coat of mud all the way down, he only did the corners so now there is a "dip" all the way down the center.
I really feel if the actual company did the work, I may have had a more profession job done, but this sub-contractor was horrible!!! I have never mudded or taped before (which is why I hired someone), but I have done enough reading on it that I think I could have done a much better job if I had done it myself. I will never hire this company again and I will not recommend them to my friends or family.
There was one person that did the job, he was friendly and worked the first three days as planned. He was supposed to shop up the fourth day at 9:00 and didn't show up. We called early in the afternoon and the person answering the phone didn't know why he wasn't there. They called back after a little bit and said that they would come the following day and the person forgot to call.
He came the following day and finished the work. my wife paid him then he left. I got home from work and went down to check the work. The job was left without any clean-up. All of the drywall dust and mess was still all over the walls and all over the floor. There were also numerous spots that were chalked that I had to finish sand myself. I called both numbers I had for the company and left a message. I recieved a call the next day and the person on the phone said that they should have cleaned it up and she was sorry. They did get a cleaning person over the next day to do the clean up. This person had never cleaned up drywall work before, but she did the best she could with what she broght with her (dust pan, broom, and mop). It looked much better when she was finished, but I still had to spend a few hours sweeping up the remaining mess and wiping down all of the walls to allow us to apply primer.
Overall, I was disappointed with the no show and lack of clean-up. They did try to fix it after the fact, but it did cost us a lot of wasted time and rearrangement in our schedules to account for the extra time needed.
