Dealing with Mr. Oakes has been a wonderful experience.  He's extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his work.  He picked up my mower fixed it and had it back to me in one day.  It runs great and cost me a lot less than having another shop work on it.  I won't go anywhere else to have my mower's fixed and look forward to working with this company again next spring.

Did an excellent job servicing my snow blower. Picked up one day and returned it the next. Stands by his service. I would definitely use him again as need requires. Price was reasonable and included pickup and delivery.

There was a winter storm coming so I wanted my snowblower ready for it. Alan (Oakes) was mindful of that and picked up my equipment quick, performed the tune-ups, and dropped them off on-time. He was also fine with talking (via phone) over some glitches I had with the snowblower and told me to call him back if the fix he performed did not work for me.  Very good service.

Came and picked up my snow thrower and chipper/Lawn vac (neither one would run), performed the required service on them. Total of $200.00 (including pick up and delivery), would have been 2X that amount at most retail mower shops. Great job and VERY VERY fast and knowledgeable!!

I called three companies listed in Angie's list. All were backed up at least two weeks.
The Greater Dayton Yellowbook listed Oakes Mower Service in Kettering. A phone call reached Allen Oakes. He said that after 30 years' time he has closed his shop, but he still works on mowers. He picks up, repairs, and returns a mower.
The turnaround time was amazing. We spoke on Thursday night. Mr. Oakes picked up the mower on Friday morning, and returned it on Saturday before noon. That let us finish the job of mowing a yard rapidly trying to turn into a meadow. The self-propel feature is working again, and what a big difference this makes. The bill seemed high but fair: we were happy to pay the price for the benefit of such a fast turnaround.
Had we waited two weeks for another company, the grass would have been too much for this mower to handle. The $55 and $65 base prices that others quoted probably would have been increased by fees for parts, too.
