Mike came out and spent several hours on two occasions understanding what we were trying to do. He made recommendations for the layout, cabinet styles and associated lighting, appliances, etc. During the project, Brian came out to check progress and give us any updates. Also, DHR did a wonderful job coordinating schedules with the hardwood floor installation.
Greg and Melanie did most of the work and were a joy to work with! They did excellent work and were flexible on the details as well as our schedule to bring the work to a successful conclusion.
First, the kitchen was taken down to studs, plumbing and electric added on and/or re-routed. New drywall installed and one wall was brought out a few inches to accommodate plumbing and electric that formerly resided in the soffits. Also, they enlarged a pass-through opening between the kitchen and family room. In addition to the ceiling lights, they added can lights and puck lighting under the cabinets. Finally, cabinets and quartz countertop were installed, new range and microwave installed (we bought), old dishwasher installed, etc. to finish the kitchen. Pretty much turn-key except for appliances in the kitchen.
Concurrently with the kitchen we updated a large laundry room that had a small toilet area. This room had always bothered us in that we couldn't figure out if it was a large bathroom with a washer and dryer or a laundry room with a toilet and sink. As it was, it was not a nice room to put foofoo soaps, frilly little towels and other nice-smelling things. DHR installed a wall with door (and casing) dividing the room into a separate powder room and laundry room. The powder room side got hardwood floors and the laundry room has vinyl. Scope of work was not completely turn-key, but involved quite a bit: small toilet area and washer/dryer walls removed and patched over, dividing wall installed, all plumbing and electric added onto for lighting and outlets. We supplied the vinyl flooring, laundry tub, bathroom vanity, and light fixtures which they installed. We finished the project by painting both rooms, moulding and towel racks, etc.
Finally, our under-powered basement was corrected by the addition of a 20 amp circuit run in the basement for the shop as well as straightening out some of the other outlets and lighting.
We are delighted with the results of the remodel which not only increased the value of our house, but also our enjoyment of living in the new environment!
Richard did a wonderful job on both bathrooms- looks great -could not have asked for a better job!
Tarps were put down daily and everything cleaned up at end of day. Did one bathroom at a time so I was not inconvenienced at all. Great effort given to all areas and good job of explaining what he was doing and why it was done. Brian checked on the job on a routine basis to make sure everything was progressing. Richard spent the time to make sure things were done the right way. Richard takes a great deal of pride in his work and it shows- everything was done with great detail and precision. All ceramic tile, backsplashes, vanities, fixtures etc. look great. Everything looks wonderful - better than I thought it would. I would definitely recommend Dayton Home Remodeling and especially Richard for the effort he put into the project.
I interviewed 11 contractors for this project and was ready to give up when I came across Dayton Home Remodeling thru Angie's List. In short, I am very pleased, as is my elderly mother for whom this project was done. Mike managed negotiating the terms of the project and spent considerable time explaining details so that I could understand why one or the other item is better/worse. The price was very good and they did not add costs as the project went along. Brian managed the fieldwork and checked in on a routine basis to make sure the project was progressing as needed. Being an engineer, all parties were very patient with my continual questions. George and David did the entire project themselves with only assistance with drywall finishing, which was a supreme outcome as well. I thought it would take 4-6 weeks given the complexities and they were done in 3. All of my siblings are engineers and were very worried about me being taken advantage of given I am a single parent. Not only was the quality of work very high, but the materials used had the same or more level of integrity than my siblings were saying was required. Making a deck for the stacking washer and dryer was done with 2x10s, not 2x4s or even 2x6s. George was available immediately to respond to questions, texts etc and I know if I have a question 6 months from now he will be happy to respond. I WILL call them again when I can do another project and WILL recommend them to others, as we all know, good help is very hard to find. Way to go George!!
regards,
Happy homeowner
My only caution is there was a couple of months between the time we contracted with them and the start of work. I had to call Brian (the scheduler/co-owner) rather than him keeping me abreast of the schedule. I was glad that whenever I called him he did answer his phone or call me back.
Overall I would definitely recommend them for bathroom remodels and installations. They really know what they are doing and the outcome is professional.
From sales to installation Mike, Brian & George were very friendly and helpful. We received a detailed quote and estimate on the spot. Mike and Brian came back to do a walk through and let us add a few adjustments. When George and Dave arrived each day the covered the stairs and furniture to keep everything as clean as possible.
George spent the time to make sure things were done the right way. He kept us informed daily and answered any questions along the way. They cleaned up and hauled away everything, that was torn out each day.
We highly recommend their service and we will use them again, when we remodel our kitchen.
We don't have a single negative thing to say about the remodel. The remodel consisted of a complete tear out to the studs in both bathrooms, installing tile showers and floor, new drywall, vanities, mirrors, toilets, painting, exhaust fans (one needed venting added), rerouting some plumbing, vanity top, faucets - everything! They did one at a time to limit the inconvenience. It did not feel as if our house was undergoing a major renovation, they took great care to clean up as much as possible after each day. Our hallway carpet was probably cleaner during the remodel than it typically is. The craftsmanship was great - George spent the time to make sure things were done the right way. He kept us informed of any issues along the way and gave us all the information required to make decisions. The entire process from beginning to end was completely stress free. Trust me, we have had other work done in the past and this has never been the case. We now have two fabulous looking bathrooms that we actually enjoy using now. We plan to have our kitchen remodeled in the future, and we will definitely be calling these guys again.
This is the first time I've used Dayton Home Remodeling (DHR).
Payment was broken up into three pieces. Deposit at contract signing, % at start of work, remainder % at completion. Before the project began I agreed in the contract that I would remove the old shower, toilet, and provide a 40sq ft vinyl.
Richard Payton from DHR was the craftsman that did the site inspection and later the actual work. DHR and I were flexible on my start date due to both our schedules. The space was ready when Richard arrived on the day to start the remodel. New tub and surround arrived as scheduled to the house on the first day. Richard put drop cloths in place from the front door, up the stairs, down the hallway to the bath room.
Richard removed the old base boards, vinyl floor, and faucet fixtures. Capped the hot and cold water pipes. Inspected and prepared the floor and tub floor. Inspected wall insulation and added new vapor barrier to outside wall. He cut and laid the vinyl floor then covered it to protect it while working.
Richard carefully test fitted the tub in place several times to get the exact drain and vent position located. When satisfied with the tub fit (Richard goes to extremes to get it right) he secured the tub in place. He tested the drain for leaks many times until satisfied before moving on. The faucet fixtures and surround walls went in place next. Then the prep for the drywall, secured it in place, taped joints, mud joints (2 layers +1 skimcoat). Caulked all outside edges of tub and surround walls. Installed new wood base boards.
Obviously this took Richard several days to complete between steps. He was always on time, prepared and had the right tools for the situation. He was helpful pointing out some things he found and shared his knowledge if I had a question. I was both in the house and a few times out when he was working. I had no issue with him leaving his tools and material at the house. He cleaned up all trash and removed debris each day. Thank you DHR.
The entire project went very smoothly. Mike responded the same day as my inquiry and was very helpful with his suggestions as to what I should update. He did not try to have me do more than necessary. Richard performed all of the work on both bathrooms. I cannot praise Richard enough for the excellent work he did and the great service he provides. He pays attention to all the little details which suited me just fine. He takes pride in his work and gave me lots of little tips that I could use. Very friendly and trustworthy, plus he knows so much about his trade. And best of all, he cleaned up everything when he was done. I wish I had found this company sooner, so much better than other work I had done in the past. I would recommend them and especially ask for Richard.
I can't say enough about the DHR team. From the quoting process with Mike, to Brian and his crew, they did a great job. They started on the date that they expected to and finished that promise by ending on schedule, and followed through on exactly what the scope of the job was. Every detail was finished as I expected, and then some.
Special honors go to George who personally performed the remodel. Whatever curve (literally) that my house threw at him, he was able to adapt and make it work to achieve the final result. He kept me informed of any minor modifications that became necessary as the work progressed and did a great job of making this as least disruptive to the household as possible.
I will not hesitate to call DHR when I take on my next house project.
Thanks to George, Brian and Mike!
We had upstairs bathroom remodeled. Richard did a very nice job...He is very meticulous about his work and takes pride in doing a very good, detailed job. He cares about his work.
He had a lot of steps going up and down, which made the job a little more challenging, but he handled it well.
When it comes time to remodeling our next bathroom, we will ask for Richard again.
The work looked great when it was done and was finished early, right before Christmas! Every one I mentioned this to was shocked. I would recommend them to anyone.
Mike & Brian were terrific in their roles as sales & design & crew leader.
I was contacted by Brain several days before work started to set an appointment so he could introduce me to Richard who would be doing the work. Brian gave me some good tips for some tricky spots that I came across during the demo process. He also made sure to check on the progress of the work throughout the entire remodel.
I am really happy that DHR assigned Richard to remodel the bathroom. He definitely lived up to Dayton Home Remodeling?s core values, he showed up on time, maintained a positive professional attitude, explained everything he was doing, didn?t cut corners and he displayed impeccable attention to detail. During the process of the remodel several unexpected complications arose and Richard was able to problem solve and correct them. The first was a damaged floor joist that was right underneath the drain for the bathtub. Most contractors would put in sister joist or box out the joist. This would have been very expensive and time consuming. But knowing we were on a budget and sticking to DHR principle of affordable and reliable; Richard was able to build onto the wall and move the bathtub out just enough were he could install the drain without causing further damage to the floor joist. He then repaired the damaged floor joist so no issues arise in the future. Another complication arose with the green ground wire for the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). The original GFCI was attached to a copper water pipe. Richard pointed out that the National Electrical Code (NEC) just changed in 2014 and discourages using copper pipes as a ground and can be a safety hazard. He made sure to run the ground wire properly and to Code. Richard went above and beyond during the home remodel and I am very happy with his workmanship. My favorite part is the tile in the shower, words can?t even describe how sharp it looks.
Dayton Home Remodeling priced out a master bathroom remodel that included tiling and extending out a shower with high-end marble tile, tiling the bathroom floor and tiling around an existing tub. They removed old fixtures, removed a vanity and large mirror and tore out carpeting. Work included replacing lighting and a light/fan fixture. We ordered a vanity online and they brought it up to the second floor location and installed it without incident despite its size and weight.
We were pleased with the work done. The particular crew that worked on our project was courteous and meticulous. They accommodated our specific requests and consistently asked if we had further questions. They were creative in their approach to solving construction matters as they arose.
We would consider them again - and specifically the crew we worked with - for future projects when required.
I would use them again for other work and would recommend them. They do good work and keep their word on what is going on with the project. Overall a pleasant experience dealing with these guys.
"Thanks. We're glad you and your spouse like our work! Just to clarify though, the actual remodeling was done at your house in Dayton, Ohio, not your home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. We work within a 30 mile radius of Dayton, and Eden Prairie is a trifle beyond that.:)"
The project was finished on time and on budget!!!! The customer service/friendly manner of all Dayton Home Remodeling staff made our investment worthwhile.
We also were given the choice of sink, toilet and tub fixtures.
Richard installed all new wood and ceramic flooring to our satisfaction also. He had to replace some of the old plumbing. The house is 60 years old!
Richard was neat, clean, and friendly. We have shown the new bathroom to some of our friends and have recommended Dayton Home Remodeling to them if they have a need.
If we have any further repair needs done in our home, we will call Dayton Home Remodeling!!
