Unless you 1. plan to go to small claims court and 2. hire a lawyer to with a contractor's harassment and threats, steer clear of Roger Wheeler, the owner of 1st Mid Ohio Construction, at all cost. If I could give zero stars, I would. I normally don’t leave reviews but my experience with this Roger and 1st Mid Ohio Construction was so egregious that I feel that I owe the next person considering employing Roger this review. I hired Roger Wheeler as my general contractor to turn over an apartment unit—painting and flooring. This is my personal experience and opinion on my interactions with him and his business. First, do not ignore any red flags. He will say every and anything to talk up his abilities, but he does not possess the skill or have the staffing to get it done. Don’t fall for his pressure/sale tactics or pictures that don’t tell the whole story (as of today, he is using strategically placed pictures of the incomplete job at MY property). In regard to the job, not only was the job not completed on time, we were also given every excuse in the book on why it would “require more time and money” to complete. He even went as far as opening our walls to the studs as a scare tactic. When we pushed him on the delays, he would reveal the real reason—usually that he didn’t have a crew. At a certain point, we had to fire Roger and make other arrangement to finish the work—best decision we made. Also, we had to pay out of pocket to fix damages he caused to our property. We later found out that the entire “crew” he claims to have for the job are folks he found in response to new ads on Craigslist. In essence, he meets his “crew” for the first time at your property! In regard to the “crew”. Not only was every member someone he has just met for the first time, he doesn’t properly supervise them. Roger was nowhere to be found for hours. On top of this, we found out he did not pay these workers when I started getting texts and calls from them. We later discovered from Facebook reviews on his company, he’s done this before. Refer to a Facebook review on 10/16/2016 from another unfortunate worker. On the bright side, we were lucky that the members of his crew were nice and responsible people. Unfortunately, they ended up being shortchanged for their work during the Christmas season. Now why I say plan to retain a lawyer. When we fired Roger, he started harassing me with over 100 unanswered texts, ranging from threats to insults— really unprofessional behavior. The cherry on top is that Roger tried to upcharge for the agreed upon job; he harassed us in hopes to receive ~1.5k more than we agreed because he “needs to pay the guys”. In reality, he had double counted the invoices and claimed not to have received our prior payments. So far, we’ve received over 10 different invoices with random charges and no mention of the payments he has received. Thank goodness we saved every proposal, invoice, and payment! We plan to open a case with the BBB, if you have any additional experiences, please join us in our claim
