Mailing Service
Our personal, financial information has been compromised due to the United States Postal Service.
Two pieces of our mail were either delivered to someone else, or were dropped on the street by a United States Postal Worker. This "non-delivery" occurred most likely on Monday, 2/11/13, when a substitute mail carrier was on duty. The person who found (or who recieved our mail in their mailbox) opened our mail, taped the envelopes closed, and then put both pieces into our mailbox sometime on the afternoon of Wednesday, 2/13/2012. This person has not made himself or herself known to us. Both pieces of mail contain confidential financial information: a credit card statement and a credit report!
This is not the first time that we have had delivery issues since living at this address. Many times, we have received our neighbors' mail. On one of the occassions, we received a piece of mail for a resident on the next street. The mail was from the Domestic Relations Court here in our county. I placed the mail in our mailbox the next morning, with the red flag on our mailbox pointed up. The red flag indicates that there is mail for the mail carrier to deliver on our behalf. Lo and behold, this piece of mail was back in our mailbox two days later. I placed the mail back in the mailbox the next morning, again with the red flag pointed up and included a note that stated, "This looks important!" Finally this mail piece from the Domestic Relations Court, intended for a neighbor on the next street over, was not re-delivered to us.
Many times in the past, our neighbors have received our mail. There was a prior non-delivery of a pay stub. There have been many occasions when our important mail has been hidden - not folded- but hidden inside advertising circulars. This is especially annoying since we could have inadvertently thrown out important information had we not been vigilant in looking through each pieced of non-essential mail.
The substitute carriers also take "crease, crumple, cram" to new heights when shoving boxes and other mail into our mailbox. A number of Christmas deliveries have been crammed into the box in such a way as to prevent extraction. Large envelopes that we have recieved have had their contents bent or damaged.
A few years ago, we went to the post office at 3345 State Rd. Cuyahoga Falls 44223 to complain about these issues. Obviously the Postmaster there has not taken our concerns seriously. It seems that they have disreagarded our request for competent mail delivery. An unsettling outcome of our visit might have been that we "marked" ourselves as recipients for substandard delivery and/or abuse simply by complaining.
Last night, we emailed our complaint to the United States Postal Service. Today, we completed an online complaint form with the United States Postal Service, filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and spoke to Dawn Nekich, out of the Cleveland branch of the Post Office. We were told she has jurisdiction over the Cuyahgoa Falls branch.
Our expectations are for the complaint to be taken seriously; for the employee to be investigated, reprimanded and dismissed if need be and for OUR MAIL TO BE DELIVERED TO OUR MAILBOX.
I hope to be able to report back to Angie's List that Ms. Nekich and the United States Postal Service has taken our complaints seriously - as our confidential, financial information has been severely comprimised.
Our next step is to have all our bills emailed to us. We prefer to recieve the hard copy of our bills but it seems that receiving our financial information via the internet is more safe than our own mailbox - if you can believe that! If our email is compromised, at least it will be a stranger and not a neighbor who knows our business. I urge anyone reading this to do the same thing.
