DA Knapp C

DA Knapp gave us a quote and it was fine. They were cheaper than some guys my sister knew, but I can't say it was a fair comparison because my sister knew the guy. I don't remember how much the quote was. They were fine, professional, the whole 9 yards. I have no complaints.

Dave and his helper showed up as promised, on time, with the delivery of a lift. He and his helper completed the task in three days, as promised. Dave also inspected the entire house to check on the work that he had done the summer prior, to insure that everything was properly tuck-pointed and intact from the winter before sealing. Extremely meticulous and detail-oriented. I recommend Dave if you have an older home that needs attention and restoration. He understands older construction methods, and knows how water affects masonry.

Have used the D.A.Knapp Company before for box gutter repairs and other home improvements, such as concrete patio, porch remodeling, rebuilding masonry raised brick attached beds in the front of house, concrete work, and general contracting. This particular problem required a lot of experience in following how water enters and travels. He did a lot of exploratory work inside the walls from both the outside and inside, and determined the cause of the problem, which was faulty precast concrete construction of capstones on all outside walls. His knowledge of concrete aggregates and compositions, general masonry, as well as copper flashing and clay tile roofing was very significant in solving the problems. This is on a one-of-a-kind house that was built in 1949, designed by well-known Akron architect, Roy Firestone. Not only did Mr. Knapp figure out what the real problems were, but also came up with a plan to repair the problems while maintaining the architectural integrity of the original design. I have been extremely pleased with the work, and the craftsmanship and attention to detail is excellent. I have also been pleased with the professionalism of Mr. Knapp and his crew. He maintained very good lines of communication as to materials purchases, projected timelines for completion of phases of the restoration, and assistance with insurance adjusters and engineers. He maintains an organized worksite, and his employees are considerate and respectful of the property and landscaping. The work will continue on other restoration and interior repair in 2011. I heartily recommend Mr. Knapp to anyone who has any type of construction, renovation, restoration, or repairs needed. He also has a great referral list of subcontractors that he uses, from plumbers and electricians to specialty tile installers and other craftsmen.
