As soon as he arrived in my house, I knew he was different. He was very personable and professional. I was relieved that he was open to my custom ideas and he even had some suggestions to make it even better. He gave us an estimate and it fell right within our budget so we jumped on the opportunity to use him and his company for the remodel.
When Phil and his guys arrived, I was instantly amazed at their professionalism and "clean cut" appearance. My father owned a construction business so I'm familiar with the types of guys that typically do this kind of work. I was surprised that these workers looked like they could be working desk jobs at any corporation. They were extremely courteous, on-time, clean-cut, and meticulous. They even laid drop cloths in the hall and down the steps when they arrived so they didn't dirty the rest of the house. At the end of each day, they cleaned up the work area and I never had to deal with any dirt or garbage laying around.
As for the custom cabinets and bar top that Phil made himself I can't say enough about how beautiful they are. I asked that my cabinets be made out of wood that still had knots in it, and I wanted my bar top to be one big slab of live-edged wood. The results are stunning. My husband who is notoriously tough to please, couldn't even find anything wrong. They are beautiful and everything I asked them to be.
Phil has defiantly exceeded all our expectations and worked hard to make our requests fulfilled. He has definitely won our business going forward for other projects we want to do. We can't say enough good things about him.
I received 4 bids on the project. Phil was the busiest of the 4 companies and couldn't start for several weeks, but he worked hard to get the bid done quickly. His price came in on target and his design was closest to the ideas I was trying to communicate. We were not in a hurry, so the delay in starting was not a big issue.
Once the project started things went smoothly.
At several points I made small changes to the job specs or had questions. All I had to do was send Phil a text and he usually replied immediately. In a few cases the changes were significant and charges were added, but most small changes Phil incorporated at no extra cost (which was very appreciated). A project this big has to be dynamic--as it's being built new things will come up, or the homeowner will realize something that they hadn't before--and Phil and his guys were very able to handle the changes. To me this is probably the most important characteristic on a big custom job like ours.
Phil has a custom cabinetry/woodworking workshop. He built our bar and entertainment center there (all using CAD-style rendering) and then installed and stained them on-site. If your job needs custom cabinetry/woodworking, this is definitely a huge plus. He was able to send computer mock-ups before construction so I could visualize the project and make changes if needed. I had an unusual custom build (a large wood "box" on the ceiling running the length of the bar for glassware and lights) and Phil handled it with no problem. It came out beautifully.
I will mention again that Phil is quite busy, and I think this may have slowed down the project some in the end as his other jobs ramped up (though a lot of this was me adding unexpected small things to the project). For us the time frame was not important, but if for some reason you are under a very tight schedule definitely talk to Phil about your constraints before signing.
In the end we are very happy with our new basement. It is exactly what we had hoped for.
Timelines and prices were exactly as they were explained in the contract, there were no surprises along the way. Any time a problem or a change needed to be made Phil and his team worked with us immediately to find the best solution. We were always kept in the loop, almost daily, as to what the status of our project was and what the plan for the week was. We cannot say "thank you" enough for the continuous contact and updates along the way. Phil is an excellent communicator.
The end product is amazing -- and on time! Our basement is even better than we would have imagined and will be a space our family will enjoy for a very long time. I have already recommended the Baker Group to other friends who are planning to finish their basement and they will be my first call if I plan to have any more remodeling done in my home. If you are looking for an honest company, top quality work at a fair price, the Baker Group is definitely the right choice for you.
We would like to start a kitchen remodel and can't wait to see the cabinets that Phil is able to create!!
We feel lucky we knew people that recommended the Baker brothers to us!!
Baker Group Remodeling Company completed our kitchen remodel in 2014. Countertops, cabinets, and baseboards were removed. The table chandelier and a flush mount ceiling light over the island were removed. Thirteen LED can lights with dimmers were installed throughout the kitchen and family room soffit. LED under mount lighting was installed in all cabinet areas. Two hanging pendant lights were installed over the kitchen island. Granite countertops were installed and an under mount Silgranit sink installed. All plumbing fixtures were updated and replaced. Two full walls of stone backsplash were installed. The kitchen and family room ceilings were patched, scraped and retextured. The kitchen, family room, study, entrance hall, and adjoining hallways were then painted. The adjoining powder room received a new toilet, mirror, LED lighting fixture, and all new accessories. A new exhaust fan and an ADA grab bar were installed. Phil crafted a new wooden medicine cabinet to match the one he had made for the master bathroom that he remodeled the year before. The walls were painted to match the kitchen.
Phil and his crew did an exceptional job throughout. Phil constructed a custom floor to ceiling cabinet consisting of open bookshelves in the upper cabinet and soft close doors with two shelves for storage in the lower cabinet. A granite countertop matching the kitchen granite was installed to create a desktop for the phone. The workmanship on this unit is outstanding. Phil matched the stain to the exact color of the baseboards and woodwork in the rest of the house. The entire unit looks as if it were part of the original structure of the house. The crew spent three days meticulously cutting and arranging the stones of the two walls in the kitchen so that they would line up perfectly and continue the varied pattern around all cabinets, doorways, and the kitchen electrical outlets. Phil spent an entire day grouting the two stone walls, making sure every seam was grouted between the half inch stonework. Tarps were laid throughout the house and vacuumed each day to keep the area as uncluttered as possible. Phil constructed a plywood cornice to fit over the patio doors, which he mounted after I completed its covering. The crew also remounted all the custom window shades and all the artwork after painting throughout the rooms was completed.
This is the third room remodel Phil has done for us in this house. He is professional, highly motivated, and takes great pride in his work. He has had the same men work with him each time he has done work for us. They are all perfectionists with regard to their work. Each man adds a special talent to this group of hardworking people. Each one feels that the finished product of their labors is a personal reflection of their work abilities. This attitude shows through in the finished products they have created in our home. When I consider any work to be done in this house or any future house, I only think of Phil and the Baker Group Remodeling Company. I don?t think I would be happy with anyone else.
What a pleasure to work with a professional who have great design ideas, looks for ways to cut costs, is thoughtful in approach. Integrity and now I have a beautiful walk in shower - perfect.
By the way, I already recommended him to a neighbor for a complete bathroom remake that he recently completed.
