My cat developed hyperthyroidism 8 years ago, stopped eating and almost died 3 years ago, kidney function reduced to 25% two years ago, run over by a car 6 months ago breaking her hip (recovered in miraculous 2 weeks!), bitten by another cat 4 months ago, tore off her third eyelid 3 1/2 months ago, and developed the tumor starting 5-6 months ago. And yet she was running around inside and outside almost until the very end. And to her credit, she was obviously a strong cat.
Village Gate vets and staff were on all these problems every step of the way (except the broken hip which happened after hours so I took her to Rascal AH). They were extremely considerate and quick to assist at any time they could.
The only drawbacks were the inability to perform some more complicated procedures (like endoscopy, some surgeries, etc.) where they refer to OSU or Medvet (this did not affect my cat), some pricing for some procedures (e.g., fecal exams $40) is steep (although prices of Dr. Cheever's exams were quite reasonable), and some staff are extremely good while others are average to above average. Though everyone is kind and genuinely cares about the animals.
I think they did a tremendous job with my cat. Thank you.
Our dog is a frequent boarder at Village Gate. It may not be the fanciest facility in town, but the staff makes the difference. Over the years Village Gate has consistently had motivated, conscientious staff members and it's much appreciated. Everyone makes an effort to get to know the dogs as individuals, not just as run numbers.
She was very helpful in explaining how and when the antibiotics should be given. I like that whenever we return our dog never seems fearful or wary from her last visit. Whenever we call, they immediately bring up her files and make sure they know exactly what pet and conditions you're calling about. Overall, I find them to be a very caring group of individuals who are there to simply keep our pet healthy and give us any advice we need.
