All went well until the response we received after our dog was attacked at daycare: Our dog was bit by another dog immediately upon walking into daycare: My fiancé and I have been taking our dogs to Village Gate Animal Hospital since 2008. We were satisfied with our experiences, explaining our surprise when our happy, friendly dog was unprovokingly bit upon entering daycare. Subsequent to veterinary treatment of the bite, we were told the cost for our dog’s treatment was our responsibility, not the responsibility of the attacking dog’s owner(s) or a cost absorbed by the office. Additionally, we had to seek additional treatment from a different vet office and learned our dog was receiving too high of a dose of medications for his weight, which is dangerous to his liver and kidneys. Eventually Village Gate reduced the medical costs but we still incurred charges for multiple medications and a follow up visit at a new vet for additional treatment. Village Gate assured us the aggressive dog could not return to daycare but their holistic approach to the situation seems shortsighted, unsatisfactory and not with the customer or pet’s best interest in mind. One would reasonably think that the owner of a dog that is clearly responsible for a bite would be assessed the medical costs associated with that bite. Additionally, one would think an aggressive dog (or even one with aggressive tendencies) would not be accepted into daycare. We understand that animals can be unpredictable but that is the risk a business takes on when offering day care services. In the end, as the owners of a mild-mannered dog who had a long-term relationship with the vet office, it is disheartening that (1) our dog was exposed to an over-aggressive dog and (2) we incurred the medical costs. I know they followed office policy; unfortunately the office policy did not include proper customer service or general decency. Hopefully office policy changes in the future to include more-stringent behavior screening and a proper human to dog ratio for thorough supervision. Either way, we won’t be sticking around to find out; we are happy new clients at another vet in the area.

Drs. Cheever and Caudy treated my cat with extreme care, kindness, and intelligence over the past few years.  Vet techs Whitney and Jessie went beyond the call in their care and kindness toward my cat.  Jessie even came in on her day off to help with the euthanizing.  Dr. Cheever stayed beyond his work hours to humanely euthanize her in the end.
My cat developed hyperthyroidism 8 years ago, stopped eating and almost died 3 years ago, kidney function reduced to 25% two years ago, run over by a car 6 months ago breaking her hip (recovered in miraculous 2 weeks!), bitten by another cat 4 months ago, tore off her third eyelid 3 1/2 months ago, and developed the tumor starting 5-6 months ago.  And yet she was running around inside and outside almost until the very end.  And to her credit, she was obviously a strong cat.
Village Gate vets and staff were on all these problems every step of the way (except the broken hip which happened after hours so I took her to Rascal AH).  They were extremely considerate and quick to assist at any time they could.
The only drawbacks were the inability to perform some more complicated procedures (like endoscopy, some surgeries, etc.) where they refer to OSU or Medvet  (this did not affect my cat), some pricing for some procedures (e.g., fecal exams $40) is steep (although prices of Dr. Cheever's exams were quite reasonable), and some staff are extremely good while others are average to above average.  Though everyone is kind and genuinely cares about the animals.
I think they did a tremendous job with my cat.  Thank you.

Excellent in all regards. On time for my appointment and a complete explanation of what was done with Alex. How she was under the gas (I despise the towel method for a bird not raised from a young age to understand the towel, like 3 months old). The Vet was super professional and answered all of my questions. I now have a new vet for my gorgeous Macaw and will be back at the minimum, annually. This is a hidden gem for those who do not live in the neighborhood. The website is phenomenal. Please visit www.villagegateveterinary.com. Village Gate has a doggie day care as well as short and long term boarding. I could not be more impressed with a Veterinarian practice.

Our dog is a frequent boarder at Village Gate. It may not be the fanciest facility in town, but the staff makes the difference. Over the years Village Gate has consistently had motivated, conscientious staff members and it's much appreciated. Everyone makes an effort to get to know the dogs as individuals, not just as run numbers.

Our 12 year old lab mix needed an annual exam and we needed a new vet. Found them on Angie's List so they were chosen based on reviews and location. All staff were very friendly. We saw Dr. Birkhead; she was very easy to talk to and discussed all of our options thoroughly. Our buddy has a bit of a cough, so we went the antibiotics route. Price was great, especially him being a new patient and needing antibiotics. Overall, we liked them and will bring our other dog there.

We had discovered a red growth or blister in between our dog's paws. The vet was flexible and found a way to fit us in for an appointment the very next day. The vet who saw her was new and we couldn't get over how wonderful she was with her. She really wanted to get to know the dog and she sat on the floor with her, talked to her, pet her, even let her give her kisses! she made every attempt to evaluate the dog in a way that would be most comfortable for her. She was honest with us, and gave us various treatment options, and she even suggested that we go with the least expensive home remedy (which I appreciated because she wasn't pushing any sort of expensive treatment plan on us). They also found the time to administer all of her annual shots even though we hadn't scheduled that ahead of time.
She was very helpful in explaining how and when the antibiotics should be given. I like that whenever we return our dog never seems fearful or wary from her last visit. Whenever we call, they immediately bring up her files and make sure they know exactly what pet and conditions you're calling about. Overall, I find them to be a very caring group of individuals who are there to simply keep our pet healthy and give us any advice we need.

I have been taking my dog to Village Gate Animal Hospital and Pet Resort for several years. During that time, I think I have used almost every service they offer. (veterinary, doggie day care, overnight boarding, and dog grooming.) On every occasion I have left extremely happy with the experience. Dr. Caudy and her staff are caring, trustworthy and knowledgeable professionals. I can't imagine taking my dog to anyone else.

These people are awesome. Although the inside of the facility smells a bit, the service and expertise they display are great. If we hadn't moved from downtown Columbus, we would definitely still be using this vet. Dr. Caudy is a great Dr. also.

Great service. Sara is the only person that we let take care of our precious pet. Our dog just loves her, and my wife won't let anyone else touch her.

It is a middle priced service at a good location for us. We also like the idea that the kennel is paired with a veterinary practice. We have used them a couple of times over the weekends in the last month. On one occasion we left the pet only for the weekend. It costed us $23 per night for 2 nights. On the second occasion we wanted a pedicure and several other services at the same time. That costed us more. That was not a weekend price. That was a week’s price with some services. It worked out to around $200.

I think the experience was very good. They were very responsive to all of our needs especially because we had to make all of these arrangements very quickly. Each and every person we worked with from front desk to boarding to day care was very professional and great to work with. The facilities met my expectations and the services exceeded my expectations.

I explored Village Gate having exhausted other boarding options for my dog in Columbus (unsatisfied). I stopped in unannounced a week before I needed them and took a tour. It was spotless, the runs are huge, temperature controls are perfect and the staff will actually sit you down and get to know you and your animal. They recommend a short term stay before a long term one. I did that and my dog absolutely loved it. They actually called me half way through the day to let me know how she was doing. My daughter's daycare didn't do that. I can't say enough good. It is honestly the best kennel I have ever used. I no longer feel bad boarding my dog.

They have been excellent. Dr Caudy is very professional and sensitive. We are always kept up to date. Their prices are comparable to other vets, but they do try to find you deals if you inquire. Their facility is large and clean. We have been looking for a good vet and have gone to four different vets, and she is by far the best we have found.

While working at another practice closer to home, Dr. Caudy diagnosed our older cat Tiger w/ FIV. She gave us encouragement, saying that these cats can usually live another 2-3 years if we take good care of him and promptly treat any respiratory infections. Five years later, Tiger still has a good quality of life, thanks in large part to Dr. Caudy's care. She takes time to explain the risks/benefits/options/costs of all procedures, allowing us to make an informed decision about his treatment. We are thrilled that Tiger is now her "longest living AIDS kitty!"
