The company gave us a quote in May and we put down half of the quote as a deposit to secure the two weeks they said they would need in August to complete the job.  I called a couple of times between May and August to confirm the start date as we only had two weeks for them to complete the job (they said 10 days max.)  The first week, the days worked were very short, roughly 1-2 hours a day.  The main guy was busy finishing up another job.  We hit crunch time the second week with getting everything sanded, stained and then three topcoats applied 24 hours apart.  In the end, the job was done by that Friday (which I am thankful for).  The process was just quite stressful and I had to call the office almost daily to remind them that we had to be done by a certain time.  The floors are ok, overall.  There are a few major circle spots from the sander, the new wood that was laid has some holes and gaps, and we had to skip the stairs being done because there wasn't enough time (something I wanted done in the original quote).  The color is good and consistent. The quote and price seem pretty average for the area.  The process just felt very stressful and I think in the end, the product would be good if it wasn't for the rushing that likely caused the above problems being done.

From first conversation with Gary and then with Ann and consultation with Darryl until  finished, this was a professional job by experienced individuals who were very knowledgeable and competent in their work. We had hired this company to finish our very high end flooring and their conscientious and talented team of floor finishers knew exactly how to prepare and finish the floor with all the right materials. All steps were reviewed with us in advance. We are so pleased with the effort and time that was taken on our project and thank Traditional Hardwood Floors for such excellent service and competitive pricing. They have our highest recommendation.

These guys did a great job!  They made a seamless transition of new wood from the entry to the living room---stained it all the same and spent time with us to make sure that we chose the stain we liked and were happy with.  The guys were professional, nice and worked in a timely fashion.  They did great finishing work on the shoe molds which had to be added since they did not exist with the carpet there before.  They understood that re-doing the floors is an investment and advised us on the care of the floors (when we could realistically be on them and how to clean them) and did the job right, with care.  Would use again!

From the first estimate until the work was finished everything was great. Everyone was professional and friendly. We couldn't be happier with the work done. Our floors look fabulous! These guys weren't the lowest estimate I received, but I'm glad we hired them.

I had a HORRIBLE experience with this company!!!!! The estimator came out and gave me a very reasonable estimate so I scheduled. He assured me that it would be a 4 day job where they would sand the existing floors, apply the stain and then 3 coatsof protectant. They twice failed to leave me the 'rules and guidelines' paperwork. FINALLY got itvia email. On the day of thesanding ( a Monday), I was told it was fine to leave my door unlocked and the technician would come in and work. and quot;We don't hire anyone we don't trustand quot;. I came home that evening to find my house unlocked and NO WORK HAD BEEN DONE. I called to find out what happened. The receptionist said the technician's van had broken down over the weekend and he didn't have transportation. WHY HADN'T THEY TOLD ME THAT? He just didn't show up. I was assured he'd come the next day. He didn't. Finally he arrives but can't finish the sanding in one day. By the end of the first week, my floors were sanded - that's it. On Friday I came home to find him ready to put polyurethane on it. I asked about the stain. He didn't know he was supposed to stain it. Thenit took 2 days to 'get the stain mixed'. I own several animals and everyday I locked them in the basement so they wouldn't be in the way or be at risk of getting out of the house. On Friday, I came home to discover the basement door opened and the kitchen
door to the house propped open.....with one of my cats 6 feet away. They 'didn't realize' the door had been propped open. and quot;Sorryand quot; was all Igot. Then the next week they stain and started the coats of urethane. After the last coat dried, I saw huge pieces of lint, hair, grass and all manner of debris in my floors which took more than two and a half times longer to finish than promised. They look TERRIBLE. The 'customer service' by their receptionist, Barb, is the worst I've everexperienced. She made excuses, didn't listen to me and in general was argumentative and disrespectful. The ONLY response from them should have been to apologize and make NO excuses. She missed that day in training. I repeatedly asked her to stop interrupting me so I could tell her about my dissatisfaction. She isn't capable of adult, appropriate responses to unsatisfied customers. As of right now, they are coming back out to fix the hack job they did on my floors which means my life gets turned upside down again and I have little faith that the job will really be done right. DO NOT CONTRACT WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!

Thought that overall they did a solid job. Price was competitive and the Angie's List discount was a bonus. Weren't always on-time to work on the floors and wasn't always sure when would show up. But worked hard and were easy to deal with. Were accommodating to myself and my wife when we had questions or concerns. Greg, who did the majority of the work on finishing our floors, did a good job to touch spots up and was patient with us through the process. The floors came out great.

First let me say, we are pleased with the final result. The technician worked very hard mixing stains to get the right color mix that we wanted. But - he also got stain on our painted walls - 2 feet above the floor. There is a lot of stain on our woodwork as well. We had opted to pay to have the baseboad shoes removed so there wouldn't be a problem. After they started work they said, that the baseboards were in such good shape that he did not want to remove them. But the stain is on the baseboards as well. We had painters in painting the walls so no big deal there. The technician also got stain on our laundry room tile. The company doesn't feel any responsibility for the stain except the tile. After several calls they came out to remove the stain from the tile - which he did but the tile is discolored from that.
I would ask the technician each day what time to meet him at the house to let him in. He would pick the time and then be 30 minutes late. After hooking up the icemaker he did not check for leaks before turning on the water, I finally saw the water pouring through the floor into the basement. The company had to send another tech out the following week to repair the line.
And DUST!! Our entire 2 story house was coated in dust. I asked the technician if they cleaned the dust. He said yes - the only clean up was a wipe down of the kitchen counters
Like I said, the floors look good but overall not real satisfied with the job

Roger did the service and was AMAZING! He warned us that it may take an extra day of time because he really does a quality job and doesn't just "slam in" a floor! Boy was he right. His work was so well done with inset floor registers and matching quarter round. He was on time every morning. He cut under door jams etc, wonderfully to fit hardwood. It looked like it was installed from day 1 when the house was built (probably better). We installed pre finished maple - Somerset brand -- that was an excellent product without splits or problems. Roger really took the time to get it right. Everyone is extremely impressed as are we! I would call them immediately if I needed hardwood. Prices were reasonable too. We've had hardwood floors done before at previous houses - installed and refinished and I have NEVER seen this kind of workmanship or professionalism. We were extremely pleased.

I found them through Angie's List. They were very good and professional. There was some problem with the finish that they put on, so they redid it without any problems whatsoever. They were not happy with their own job initially. They are actually the most reasonable people I've talked to. I liked them all the way around. Their price was good. They were just nice to talk to and have in my house. I felt comfortable with them. I would recommend them to anybody.

The cost reflects what we paid just for them to do our stairs. The cost to redo the floor was incorporated in the total cost of our water damage repair.

We had water damage to our hard wood floors due to ice damming on our roof which caused a leak in our basement ceiling and damaged part of our hardwood floor on the first floor. We hired a contractor who in turn recommended this company to fix our floors. So that our floors match with our hardwood stairs, we additionally contracted Traditional Hardwood Floors to sand and finish our stairs and 2nd floor hallway. We had to leave the house for at least 4 days in order for them to complete their job and safely walk on the floor. They were able to complete the job in a timely manner though we were unable to watch their work due to we had to be out of the house. The work they did on the stairs was FANTASTIC! If you have stairs that need refinished they do any excellent job. The flooring, I was dismayed that they didn't replace one of the old boards that clearly had water damage (the end of the board was black) but other than that the floor looked good. As the year has gone on, we have had several nicks and scratches occur all over it. We expected some scratching to occur as we have a dog and 2 small kids with toys but some of the scratches I can't figure out what could've caused them to go so deep. The only thing my husband and I can think of is they didn't put enough coats of polyeurethane. We have not talked to them since the work was done due to even if they offered to re-do the floors, I can't afford to have my family displaced again for a week.
Response from Traditional Hardwood Floors
"During an estimate we cover issues like board replacement. Water based polyurethane may have been the best solution if quick access was necessary. Polyurethane offers a level of scratch resistance but may not be sufficient to protect againts scraching caused by harder abrasive objects. Wood density is a factor that also needs to be considered."

The estimator was very professional and was happy to provide me with proof of worker's comp which was very important to me. He determined that my existing floor was red oak and the new floor needed to match the existing one. I was informed that after installation on the first floor, the entire 1st floor would need to be sanded and finished with polyurethane so that it would all match. The entire 1st floor matches as if there weren't a 20 year gap. The exotic wood in my office is exquisite. The installers and finishers were experienced craftsman and as I asked questions they were able to inform me. The office staff was also very polite and helpful. My overall experience was great and I would recommend them to my family and friends.

It took longer than they said it would take. The original person was fired in the middle of the job. I had some knicks in the wall that they said they would fix but never did. I wasn't very pleased with this job.

Measured area and provided estimate. Material arrived in about two weeks. Arranged installation for convenient time. Two workers (subcontractors) showed up about 10:00 and completed job in 2.5 hours. Cleaned up. Took about two weeks to arrange for another subcontractor to come to tuck and tack carpet at entranceway. Good job. Only minor hiccup was that when flooring was delivered they forgot the shoe mold. It was delivered the following week in enough time for me to paint before installation.
