He was very careful about thinking through every step of the project in advance, and making sure we were on the same page about decisions. His work was excellent. He's also very professional and trustworthy. I highly recommend, and would hire again. His rates were only slightly higher than some others, but it was definitely worth it for the quality of the work.

He started the job when he said he would and arrived every day at the time he said and finished the job when he said he would. He did not cut corners, did the work in a professional manner and cleaned up when he left. I recommend John.

+ -1 moreThis was a small but difficult job as the existing concrete floor was very uneven once the carpet was removed. John was very conscientious about leveling the floor before he began, dealing with walls that were out of square, etc. I did not rate " price" because I did not seek other bids -- I was confident that John would do an excellent job at a fair price. And he did!
Description of Work: Ceramic tile was laid in part of finished basement that was previosly carpeted.

During downtime waiting for delayed backsplash tile, he procured, cut, and installed bead board for our cabinets (something we decided to to on the fly and he did a great job!). We would highly recommend.

This was a 100 year old house and John pointed out some potential obstacles and potential solutions/options. Worked around other contractors in the process. Did other odd jobs on site along the way to make the project easier--his experience on these things helped the overall project stay on time. Gave him the keys to the place and trusted him to come and go, keep it secure. Would highly recommend.

+ 0 moreIt went great and he did the initial repair on a short time frame as we were getting ready for a graduation party and came back later in the summer to do the other three areas with new tile. He was great to work with! Approx $1500 for lower bathroom/foyer (165 sq ft), about $700 each for laundry room and tub area (each area about 60 square feet), $50 loose tile repair and $250 to replace 3-4 tiles on a short timeframe.
Description of Work: John pulled up laminate floors in laundry room, lower level bathroom and foyer and carpet around past tub and put in new ceramic tile. I bought the tile and grout and he bought the mortar and base layer (rock board?). He did took his time and completed one area per week (about 4 - 5 days per area). He cleaned up after himself and is very meticulous in his work. We also have a large foyer and didn't want to spend the money to replace the whole thing. He went out looking for a similar tile and directed me to a store where I was able to find a close match to replace a couple of cracked and broken tiles, saving a lot of money over replacing the entire floor. He also repaired some loose tile in another bathroom when he was here adding in a strip between the carpet and tile that the previous contractor did not do.

We hadn't settled on a tile, so he helped by advising which size/style of tile would be the most long-lasting (with two young kids in the house, this was pretty important to us). He went out of his way to make sure the process was hassle-free and the end product is better than we could've imagined. I absolutely recommend John for any flooring services. He was superb.

+ -1 moreAfter being delayed a week by our illness, John meticulously planned and executed the tiling--occasionally cutting an individual tile from the backing to improve the spacing between tiles. He kept us totally informed of his schedule throughout, kept the kitchen free of debris, and swept out the garage after each day's work. He "babied" the job, carefully placing each tile to maximize the overall appearance. The experience was enhanced by his genuine love of people and his great sense of humor. Oh, yes, the backsplash is beautiful! We have employed John several times down through the years, beginning with carpet and continuing with hardwood flooring and a tiled fireplace surround. We have been delighted with his work.

Description of Work: I had all carpet and he took all of it out and replaced it with new wood flooring in most places. He also took all of the old tile up and put new tile down.

Description of Work: John Gutzke was referred to us by close personal friends who had used John for several projects throughout their home, and were thrilled with the results! Our friends were absolutely correct as John was a consummate professional in every sense of the word! He was very open and honest about the material we should purchase, and he even referred us to the best businesses to purchase these materials. When we had an indecision on what type of wood to purchase, he met us at the company to help us pick out what and how much we needed to complete our project. When the wood manufacturer failed to place our order properly, he called the company to advocate for us! John constantly and clearly communicated step-by-step plans for our flooring project, and followed through on each and every step as reported. John even went above and beyond in making recommendations on other areas for repair as we moved along. He is very personable, friendly and funny, yet stays very focused and dedicated to his work and timelines. Finding this man was a true blessing for us. He does the job right. He is extremely professional. He cleans up after himself daily.His finished product is truly gorgeous. We have had so many friends comment on his beautiful work on our home. He is very reliable and also trustworthy ( very important to us). A true gem!
