Upon my examination of the work, after they left, I noted that the caulk around the sink had separated. So I called the contractor and they recaulked it the next day. After that, I went back into the bathroom and realized that something looked very lopsided on the sink. I realized that the vanity top/sink was off-center. The left side of the vanity top was about 1/2 inch larger than the right side. It may not seem like a big deal, but this is a very small vanity top and so that much of a difference is quite noticeable. So I called The Andersons and left a message regarding the problem. No-one called me back, so I went in and explained the problem to Forrest: both the vanity top and the hole in the vanity base. We spent about 10 - 15 minutes going back and forth, with him telling me that was a correct way to do the top and me saying that can't be right. Regarding the top, he said it was done that way on purpose and regarding the hole he said that the contractor would have no way of knowing which vanity we wanted and so he could not have known that it would not fit. (Really?! Then why bother with having the contractor come out to measure!) Finally, he said that I would need to talk with Tom, and that he would have Tom call me. Of course, Tom never called, so I called him. He never called again, so I went into the store and talked with the store manager. I explained everything that had happened, and why I was so disappointed with the entire project. He took notes and said that he would get back with me in a couple days. Though he never got back with me, Tom did call me and scheduled a visit to see the problems. He arrived promptly and appeared displeased at having to be in my home. He looked at the hole in the vanity and reiterated that the contractor would not have known which vanity we selected so he would not have known whether it would have fit, and he also indicated that the contractor would never have measured how far off the floor our pipes were (which would have indicated the problem necessitating the hole). I told him I totally disagreed with him. And that even if the contractor didn't know which vanity we ordered, The Andersons did know, and if they had compared the measurements to the vanity, they would have known it wouldn't fit. He declined responsibility for the problem. Regarding the vanity top, he measured it and agreed that it was uneven. He left saying that he would call me after he researched some choices. While he was here, I asked him why he never returns my calls and why no-one has apologized for the way this project has proceeded. His response was that he's too busy to return calls. He never apologized for anything.
A couple days later I got a voice mail message from Tom requesting that I should call him because he had a couple choices for me. The next day, before I had a chance to return his call, he left me another message that he had ordered the new top. So, I guess I really didn't have a choice in the matter.
The contractor just left my home after installing the new top. I have no idea whether everything is right in the bathroom. I am assuming that it's as good as it's going to be and that there is nothing I can do about having a hole in my brand new vanity. I have never heard back from the store manager with whom I spoke more than a month ago. I don't think they care whether I'm satisfied.
Though The Andersons is an Ohio-based company, and they have a good reputation in Northwest Ohio, where their corporate headquarters is located, I would not recommend them to anyone for remodeling work in Central Ohio. Their kitchen & bath shop is dysfunctional at best. Not only am I disa
