They installed the fireplaces well. They were prompt, professional, and courteous. I would call them again if needed.

I visited Specialty Gas in early Dec. 2009 to discuss the pros and cons of retrofitting our regular gas log fireplace with ventless logs. We had solved a water leak, but had never solved the considerable cold-air drafts from the chimney (and later discovered the air-intake vent at side of fireplace, which no one had previously thought about as the source of the problem). I selected the high-end logs with multi-stage remote, and a custom glass/brass doors. The owner visited subsequently to measure for the doors. Several weeks later the logs were installed and some pink insultation installed (stuffed into the chimney opening). That did not solve the cold air problem. The guy who came out to install the logs said we might have to call another company to install "black insulation" in the air intake vent and/or to install a metal plate to block the chimney air in lieu of installing a new damper (which is no longer needed with ventless logs, of course). Amyway, I had to call the owner and ask if he could come out and do a more thorough job with installing more insulation, including the black insulation, since the whole reason I was spending $2,000 was to 1) solve the cold air problem; and 2) have a working fireplace again that did not involve opening and closing dampers, etc. (and I did not want to spend thousands more to install a direct vent fireplace). So finally, after more discussion, Specialty Gas did solve the problem. There was a delay with the glass doors because the opening had not been measured correctly at first, so it was mid-January before we had everything in order. I do feel that Specialty Gas is a good company and willing to solve problems. I don't think they are quite what some others have touted.

The problems were diagnosed presumptively over the phone, and the appropriate parts were replaced promptly and efficiently.

They did an absolutely awesome job. I took it in this morning and it was done this afternoon. The quality of workmanship was excellent!

Nothing negative to say. They came when they said they would. The fee was reasonable.

Service representative was ontime. We wanted our gas fireplace checked for a possible gas leak. Rep did a thorough check and found no leak. He also re-arranged the gas logs (the previous alignment was causing the smell we thought was a leak), cleaned the logs and inside of fireplace. Rep did a great job explaining his work and spent another 15 minutes answering all my questions. We discussed the possiblity of converting my vented gas fireplace to a ventless unit and the pros and cons of doing so. It was a great experience and gave me peace of mind operating the fireplace.

This company is now titled as the Specialty Gas House, same street address, phone # 614.261.0824 (perhaps has new owners since date of last consumer report in 2007). This was a very positive experience. The technican arrived promptly, was very professional, cleaned up after himself, and did a first-rate job overall. The valve that was replaced was located under a panel in the basement and involved manipulating some gas piping that was routed through a wall near a floor joist, making the repair somewhat technically challenging. However, the technician was clearly well-experienced with this type of issue and was easily able to complete the work and with minimal mess and disruption. The replacement floor valve matches the original that was installed in about 1952, but uses a newer mechanism for controlling the flow of gas that will likely prevent need for replacement in the future. The secondary shutoff valve that was installed is desirable to have in event of any future problem with the main floor valve. The repair completely fixed the problem (slow gas leak from around valve when valve was in the 'open' position). The only drawback to this experience was the need to wait about a month to have the repair completed, due to how busy the company was with other previously-scheduled work. I was not able to use my gas fireplace during the wait. However this was a minor drawback in context of the quality of the repair work that was done. The extent of consumer 'demand' for services also seems to reflect well upon the company's reputation.

Within the next few weeks an installer came in and ran the line and installed the gas log set. He took his time and showed me multiple times how to operate the unit. We had a positive experience with Specialty and would use them again in the future.

My overall experience with them was very pleasant. They worked with me to decide what kind of grill I should be getting. They have pretty decent in-house expertise to help people out. I would rate them highly and would use them again, if necessary.

They charged me almost half the price of what a plumber quoted me to do the same work. The quality of their work was good and I was satisfied with their service.

Our gas grill no longer heated up beyond 300 degress. I called Specialty Gas (found them on Angies' List) to ask about servicing our grill. I spoke to Brett and he told me before I have it repaired by a pro, I should try something out to see if it would fix the problem. He proceeded to describe the steps in detail over the phone. Sure enough it worked, saving us money and the hassle of scheduling a house call or taking the grill to their store for repairs.

The salesman at the showroom took lots of time to show us the different types of logs they had for sale and the differences in each set of logs. He helped us to choose the best set for our size fireplace. He was very knowledgeable. The tech, Eric was very efficient and knowledgeable, also. Later, in February, the gas logs that we had before going to Specialty Gas House started coming on with a LOUD popping noise. They came out and adjusted the pilot and logs so that we wouldn't have that problem again. They didn't charge us for that service call. We felt that was more than fair.

After checking Angie's List, I decided to visit the store to discuss types of gas logs available that would fit the opening in my fireplace. I talked with Rob who was very friendly and helpful. I placed an order on the spot. Unit had to be ordered. Eric arrived a few weeks later to install. He did a very neat job and took every precaution to avoid dirtying the house.

Great pre-sale information, presented pros and cons of vented and vent-less, offered multiple options for each. Service was scheduled and punctual, very good instruction on use and follow up maintenance.

The sales staff and the installer were patient in answering my questions. They inspire confidence. I believe I have a safe gas log that will provide pleasure and heat.

I chose this company on the basis of the glowing reports on Angie's List, and I was not disappointed. My experience was much like others' in my situation. The technician (or "fireplace geek" as he once referred to himself!) used a tarp to keep the floor clean, cleaned the fireplace and explained in detail what type of fireplace I had, how to light the pilot and what steps I needed to go through if it went out. He also checked the voltage and told me how long this kind of fireplace and it's components typically last. He also got the model number from a tag in the fireplace and told me what brand it likely was so that I could find a manual on the internet (which I found and printed). I was also encouraged to call if I had any problems or questions later. My service was performed only yesterday, but I've already referred them to a friend also in the market for fireplace maintenance.
