"Our customers receive in writing a security survey or proposal letter specifying the required term of the monitoring agreement prior to the installation date. Our standard term is for a period of thirty-six months. The Security Network, Inc. 1324 Dublin Road Columbus, Ohio 43215 (614) 486-2220"
Our system is basic - you punch in a code and the red light shows that it's engaged. A green light means you can open doors and the system won't go off. It has always worked this way and there was nothing to tell me that, in fact, my system had become disconnected and was no longer hooked up to Security Network for monitoring. The only thing that was different was a "FC" showed up on my touch pad at some point. I learned that this means "failure to communicate."
Subsequent to the "FC" showing up, (in January 2014), a contractor came to do some work and said that I might want to call Security Network to let them know we would be disconnecting the system while he worked on our kitchen. After all, if they aren't monitoring it for the next two months, why should I pay for it? But I also didn't want them to see that things were disconnected and become concerned.
To my surprise, the woman who answered the phone told me that it was my responsibility to call them when I saw the "FC" on my system. In other words, it's my fault. Her tone was not very helpful. She said I had to continue to pay the bill over the next two months even though we weren't using the system, and that after we were done with the construction, we could sign up for a new 3 year contract. Gee, thanks.
Apparently there is NOTHING on their end to tell them that the phone line is disconnected and that the system I'm paying for is useless and isn't being properly monitored. They don't check the lines. I called again in May when I got the bill and just said I'm cancelling. Once again I was told (in so many words) that it's my fault. I'm supposed to check the lines once a month (per the contract I don't have a copy of). Not them. They said there's no way they can check the phone lines of 1700 customers a month. So....if a robber cuts your phone lines, Security Network won't know it. And if a weird code like "FC" shows up on your touchpad, be sure to call them RIGHT AWAY. The burden is on you: not them. Makes you wonder what the heck you're paying for.
"At The Security Network we value our customers and their feedback with respect to the products and services we provide. Through this feedback we are able to make adjustments allowing us to better serve our existing and future customers. Our employees understand The Security Network is in the business to serve with a mission to provide the highest quality products and services at the lowest possible cost. Our reputation is extremely important to us as much of our business is derived through repeat business and referrals from satisfied customers. Therefore, we find that it is necessary to comment on a few points contained in this review to avoid any possible misconceptions. • Monitoring service begins only after the monitoring agreement has been signed by the customer. A pink copy of the agreement is given to the customer. • Per the agreement, customers acknowledge that The Security Network has no control over disruptions in telephone lines. • The Security Network offers products and services that backup or can eliminate the need for a telephone line, such as digital cellular communications. • The Security Network never requires a customer to sign a new contract unless service was previously terminated by the customer. • Even if the customer does not use their security system for a period a time, The Security Network continues to absorb monitoring costs as the account remains active in the database. • For our monitored residential customers the labor portion of any service call is always free. There is never a trip charge or hourly labor rate. The Security Network, Inc. 1324 Dublin Road Columbus, Ohio 43215 (614) 486-2220"
