Had a meeting scheduled from 9am-11am to get a quote for a mitigation system. I explained to them on the phone I am have to stay home from work for this and had to leave right at 11am. I stuck around until 11:20am, nobody showed up. I didn't get a call until 1pm trying to reschedule instead of apologizing. Thanks for wasting my time.

Brad was very helpful and accommodating with our concerns about the external appearance and placement of the systems on the sides of the house. Chris and his crew were punctual, polite, and very professional. They were efficient, conscientious, and very clean, wearing shoe covers in the house and cleaning all messes and debris prior to departing. We are very pleased with the quality of their work and the look of the final product. We would strongly recommend Radon Systems without reservation.
Description of Work: I gathered 3 bids prior to deciding to go with Radon systems. They installed two complete systems for us (due to our crawl spaces) for only one hundred dollars more than what another company wanted for one system.

Radon Systems installed our mitigation system 5 years ago. We noticed that the motor was no longer running. I left a message Sunday afternoon and Dan returned my call the next morning. Self remedies were recommended and when they did not resolve the issue, I was told a team would be in my area during the week to replace the motor. The team arrived the following morning and replaced the unit in 10 minutes. They were efficient and polite, everything taken care of within 48 hours- thanks

I am so happy with the job Radon Systems did. Radon Systems was very knowledgeable and helpful. After an initial visit to a**** our home and the work that would be needed we scheduled a day and time for the install. The day of the install I was a little disappointed because the crew was late from the previous job and I had to track someone down to find out when they would be arriving. However, they more than took care of us when they got to my home and after seeing how hard they work it was clear as to why they were late in the first place. They don't cut corners and they do a very thorough and quality job. The guys worked on our home for several hours to get everything just right. They really do what is right for the customer. This proved to be true not only in the quality of work they provided us but also in compensating us with a discount for the inconvenience we were caused. I highly recommend you to go with Radon Systems to take care of all your radon needs.

They did a good job in general. The problem was waiting for them to call back to set up the day & time of the service. The person who answers the calls to their Company does not know when their service guys would return customer calls. He does not have their number either. In short, you as a customer just has to wait till they are good & ready for you. Maybe the owner can do something about this in the future.

I had three highly rated companies on Angies List out for estimates. All had about the same solution options available, differing mostly in where they thought the vent stack to the outside could be located. Although many people try to put as far towards the back of the house as possible, I took a walk through our neighborhood and could now identify all the homes with radon systems that I had never noticed before, and half of those had towards the front of their side yards, with the vent stack running up behind their front down spouts. So any worry about running ours up near the front side of our house were pretty much put to rest. One thing I learned is that, even though we could have installed most anywhere in the basement by opening up the concrete to tie into drainage tiles, the vent pipe will how be 45'ed to about 8 inches into the room -- giving me one more thing to work around should we decide to finish the basement. So I decided to bring directly off the sump well, so that I would have both the sump and radon system in the same spot should we later decide to finish. The company also said they would seal numerous cracks in the base floor to minimize reverse air seepage from inside the house, to underneath the basement floor, to then vent out above the roof. So that was important to me. So this was about as straight forward an installation as you can get. No real complications. And Radon Systems gave me the best quote of $975. Other quotes were $1075 and $1275 for similar if not exactly the same work. The installer team was experienced and efficient, and did not take any shortcuts that I could tell. And the finished job looks professional and well done. Again, this was a very straight forward installation. I even had a pre-drilled pilot hole through to the outside where I removed a low voltage electical line for outside lighting that was no longer in use. So all they had to do was sight through that to drill their exit hole for the outside vent stack. The company left what they said was a $4000 radon detector, which was just picked up today. Initial readings appear to put radon levels at 1.2 to 1.3. So mission accomplished.
Description of Work: Radon Systems installed a radon mitigation system from our sump pump well straight up and out the side of the house and then straight up to and above the roof line, following a quick 45 degree over to and behind the front down spout. They also sealed the more significant basement floor cracks, as well as an open plumbing rough in approximately one foot square. And measured radon levels have now dropped from about 10-2-10.3 to 1.2-1.3.

I initially chose this company based on the following: 1. They were the company that apparently had originally installed the mitigation system in our home currently (performed before we owned the home). 2. They were on a list of frequently used and recommended companies by our realtor. 3. They had a lot of good reviews on Angie's List. As far as the testing of the new home went, I can't say much bad about the process/service, other than to say they were a little pricey. We found out later that the home inspector we were using (also well recommended both on Angie's List and by our realtor) would have done it for $50 less. Nonetheless, the gentleman on the phone was very professional and courteous and scheduled the testing easily. The testing was performed and the results sent to us via e-mail very quickly. The problem I have with the company, and the reason I give them an overall C grade with a mixture of B-F specific grades, is the way they handled the service (or lack thereof) for our existing mitigation system. Again, the gentleman on the phone initially was very courteous, helpful and professional. He talked me and walked me through various things to check myself to make sure that a service call actually was necessary. However, once it was definitively established that the mitigation system wasn't working and likely needed a new fan (really the only part of the system was any moving parts), the ball was dropped by the company...and dropped badly. First, the gentleman on the phone apparently couldn't actually schedule any service call himself. Instead, I was told that their service department would give me a call to set something up. I had called in the mid-late morning. No call back that day. No call back the next day. I called them instead. Talked with the same gentleman who remember me. Told me again that their service department would call either later that day or the next. No call later that day. No call the next day. My wife called the following day (3 days after the original call). She spoke with a woman and was told that service person was not available (and, according to my wife, seemed to imply that they only had 1 person who did this type of thing) but, again, we would get a call back. It's now been 9 days (7 business days) since my original call and STILL NO CALL. What kind of business doesn't respond to obviously necessary service calls...on equipment they originally installed?!? We have a non-functioning mitigation system with who knows how much radon in our basement and this company doesn't respond to 3 attempts to schedule service? Needless to say, we called another company and lo and behold, we're on their schedule later this week for service. Also, needless to say, we will not be using Radon Systems for any type of work/testing in the future.

Radon systems installed a mitigation system in my home. They reposnded to my intiial call promptly. The person doing the initial estimate was on time and spent a good deal of time expoloring various options with me to install the system. He was very receptive to considering future plans for basement remodeling as well as exterior aesthetics when we were deciding on the layout of the system. The installers, Scott and Matt, were excellent. They arrived on time and were done in 4 hours. They also discussed options with pipe placement, etc. so that we were sure to not impede future remodeling efforts. They were very personable and easy to work with throughout. My wife also commented that they were very professional. They took the time to explain the system and cleaned up all debris. You could tell that they are good guys who are careful in their work and take pride in doing an excellent job. The work done was first rate - every hole was caulked, all pipe was laid straight, etc. I have seen other systems where the exterior was not caulked or the exterior pipe was off kilter. The company also uses a licensed electrician wh owas excellent. Overall, my entire experience with Radon Systems was excellent and I would not hesitate to refer them to anyone.

The workers came and I had been told by the sales person that it would take 4 hours to do the work. I had prepared everything, I thought. One worker said that the pipe leading outside had to be in the center of the joist, so that caused the pipe to come down several inches below the ceiling, which meant that my stacked dryer and washer could not fit under the pipe because they were ½ inch higher than the pipe. Why the hole to the outside couldn?t have been 1/2 inch higher is beyond me and then I wouldn?t have had a problem. Then the second worker told me that because there was a bookcase in the way that he couldn?t drill through the concrete wall to the crawlspace that the salesperson had told me would be cut through, that the pipe would have to go around a wall, not be straight and have several 90 degree turns, which the salesman had told me would reduce the fan strength. I said that was not acceptable and that I would move the bookcase and the worker told me that he didn?t have time to waste, that the job was only scheduled for 3 hours and he couldn?t be responsible for what the salesperson told me, that my contract said otherwise. He seemed upset and pressured to get done as quickly as possible. I told him I was paying about $1,000 and that he could wait for less than 5 minutes while I moved the bookcase and that if he didn?t want to wait that I would report it on Angie?s List. At that point I was also upset. He told me that with my attitude he was ready to get into his truck and leave. I moved the bookcase in less than 5 minutes, he thanked me, and eventually that did get worked out, although I still have the problem of the washer and drier sticking out into the basement because the pipe is ½ inch lower than the dryer. I actually think the worker didn?t want to take the time to cut through the concrete that the salesperson told me would happen ? and eventually did happen, but only after I threatened with an Angie?s List write-up. So then I called the salesperson and said I was not satisfied that I had to move the washer and dryer out into the room. Although the workers had told me that the pipe could not be raised without water accumulation, the sales person disagreed and agreed to have the workers come out and put in 45 degree angles in the pipe to raise it above the washer and dryer. That didn?t seem to make sense to me because it would have added more angles to the pipe and frankly I don?t know whether the workers or the salesperson were correct on that issue, but I was done dealing with the company at that point and just paid the full bill. Later when I went to clean up I noticed that there were little pieces of concrete left in the crawlspace, not much, but something that I had to clean up, and on the floor in the basement, plus I had to add a small strip of tape in the crawlspace to seal the pipe into the plastic membrane on the floor. There was also a little bit of concrete left on the driveway when they put what they had taken out onto the truck. Again, not much, but still the cleanup work was not something I would expect from an award winner from Angie?s List. The sales person had told me that they use 6 mill plastic in the crawlspace, and I?ve had that before and it develops holes in it if you do almost anything in the crawlspace, so I had previously put in 20 mill material and I?m glad that I did. Anyone who checks online will find that that the 6 mill is considered inadequate. I also did the electrical work, so the $975 I paid included my crawlspace vapor barrier and me doing the electrical work. After paying almost $1000 for the work I would never recommend this company to anyone again. The sales person apparently gives people misinformation that the workers aren?t told about (apparently your stuck with the contract language according to the worker) and there appears to be a knowledge gap on installation between the workers and the salesperson and I don?t know who is correct. That said, the work appears to be done well, except that I?ve had to pay to unstack the dryer and washer rather than having them come back and put in 45 degree angles in the pipe. By the way, the total job, even with the bookcase incident took 2 hours and 40 minutes. Update: The provider response says volumes about this provider. First of all this was not a new home, I've lived in it for 32 years. Secondly, the threat about Angie's list came while the work was being performed when the worker didn't want to go through the wall as the salesman promised. As I said, he then did go through the wall. And I talked to the salesman after the work was completed, otherwise I never received a phone call from the owner.

Response from Radon Systems
The system was designed by proposed by my Licensed Radon Specilaist with over 25 years experience in the radon field. The installation was a result of real estate transaction whereby the buyer requested the seller to install a radon system as part or the home purchase. As with any proposed system, when our technicians install any system, many unforseen issues arise and changes to the design are always a possibility. That happened with this installation was weather or not to drill through several inches of concrete or through a wood joist area that would have worked just as well and been much quicker. The homeowner was obviously upset because the system had to be installed but waited until the system was completed before making the comment that he was not happy with the installation and threatened to write a bad report with Angie's list if we did not reinstall the radon system based on my estimator's plan. The that we were threatened with a bad report although it is disheartening, many people use that as leverage but had nothing to do with our reinstalling the system. In fact, I tried several times to contact the homeowner with no response to any of my calls. I would have changed the system regardless of weather or not the homeowner was an Angie's list member. The homeowner was rude to my technicians from the time they arrived on the job. We have four crews installing radon systems and they all do the best they can to work with the homeowner. However, there are some you cannot satisfy! Dan West

A home inspection prior to selling the house revealed excessively high radon levels. Living out of town, I contacted Radon Systems by phone and asked them to install a system in the house. They installed a radon mitigation system and ran radon level tests confirming that radon levels are currently well with acceptable limits. Although I cannot personally inspect the system, their professionalism and reputation make me believe that the job meets the highest standards.

We had Radon Systems out a few years ago to install a system. They did a good job. However, part of it involved totally sealing up the sump pump opening so that it's impossible to get to or work on the sump pump. I didn't like that but was told they had to do it. Recently our sump backup was giving us a problem and I needed to open everything up so I could investigate and possibly do repairs. I called them during business hours and left my name and phone number (on their answering machine), asking them what I should do to get the sealed lid off the sump so I could work on the pump. They never called back. I was careful to speak clearly and not too fast when I left my information. We checked our answering machine frequently to see if they might have called while we were out but there was never a message from them.

I never got the message. 2nd had I received this call, the sump lids are very easy to remove is something the homeowner cando by simply removing 4 screws, or a plumber can remove the sealed cover which is done every day. After we install a radon system, instructions for removing the sump cover are explained to the homeowner. I would have assisted him in removing his cover had I spoke with him directly or would have arranged for a service call the next time we were in his area. In checking with my secretary, we have no record of the call Dan West

They're very, very efficient. They just went downstairs and did their thing. The only thing I had a problem with was once I called them and they came right out, the noise of the fan was a little loud. They were able to make a necessary adjustment and everything is fine. In November I had a radon analysis and they told me my average radon is 1.1 below the EPA's action level of 4.

They were highly rated and they did a wonderful job. I spent $ 50 for the 48-hours pre- test and $50 for the post test. I spent $1025 for the medication where they put in the pipes and the system, indoors and outdoors. My experience was excellent. They were very good. I have no comparison for their price but I think it was in the acceptable price range and not pricey especially after I got the Angie's list discount. I would highly recommend them to people especially in my area who need to have the radon tests.

Estimator was professional and extremely helpful. He provided several options for routing the system. This included advice on minimizing the amount of visible pipe in the basement and noise management outside. Our system was an addition $250 because we chose to route through the garage. Installers and electrician were extremely professional and answered all my questions. They explained what they had done when finished and made sure I understood how to check the system. They then ran a radon test to confirm the radon mitigation.
