- From first contact to installation, everything went according the schedule we agreed upon. Kathy Morgan, the owner of the company came to our house to see the closet, measure the space and give us some conceptual ideas as to how to improve the functionality of the space. Kathy emailed us the drawings of the concept we discussed within a couple of days, just as she said she would. She came back to our house to confirm the drawings and answer any questions we had. Within a couple of weeks of our paying our deposit, we had an agreed upon date for the work to begin. On the morning when the work began, the crew showed up exactly at the time we had arranged. On day one, they tore out the old racking, repaired and painted the walls. On day two they again showed up on time and began installing the new closet shelves and hanging space. The crew finished the job on day two just as they had promised.
-
- We really loved the conceptual drawing Kathy sent us, it really helped us to visualize the changes and be able to truly understand what we would be getting.
The crew was punctual and professional and left everything spotless when they left. All we had to do was start hanging our clothes and organize the shelves.
- As you may recall, it was a very cold and snowy February. The crew removed their shoes at our door and placed a plastic runner up the steps to protect our relatively new carpet.
- We are already planning for them to remodel our first floor laundry room.

I recently used Organized Home Remodeling for a kitchen remodel and couldn't have
been more pleased with Darren and Norm and the work they did. They were
so professional, prompt, courteous, and truly pleasant to be around. At
the end of each day, my project room was left clean, swept, and in great
condition. I still sit in my kitchen every night and just look around
in amazement and for that I thank you all!
"Even though it has been some time since this project was complete, we realized a response was not made. We truly appreciate doing this work and these were wonderful folks to partner with to create a beautiful new kitchen in their home. We especially appreciate the comments regarding the cleanliness of our crew as that is an important part of our company values in respecting the customer's home and being sure the remodeling process is as painless as possible. Thanks so much for taking the time to review for us."
The only issue encountered during the process was that the drawer fronts ordered were not ones I wanted - it was what they quoted with as I was gathering quotes but we all should have had better communication to confirm that was actually the style desired. Kathy was gracious and accepting of the error but I would recommend a checklist to confirm all the items that an owner needs to pick out or approve to make sure no errors (this would not be a recommendation only specific to Organized Closets but any contractor someone is working with). Kathy also made suggestions from her original recommendations as the job was coming together as she recognized something might become an issue and that was extremely helpful too.
I requested a timeline prior to the job starting which they provided and they were very close to finishing in the timeline which only extended because of some items we added during the process.
Overall, the entire experience was great! I have recommended the company to my friends and would definitely use them again.
"This customer was a contractor's dream. She not only understood the ups and downs of doing a remodel but was involved in the project making decisions in a timely manner and letting us know if she had a question or concern right away. This was a great example of a collaborative effort between a contractor and homeowner who work together to achieve a specific goal. This was a challenging German Village home and the result was opening up areas to create so much additional space. In addition, the guest bathroom used some newer technologies which made the bathroom appear much larger than it actually is. Thanks for these kind words and we appreciate your business."
When I complained about the delays and expressed how frustrated I was, the response was that it wasn't really their fault that their suppliers had issues. Then they did relent and gave me a discount on tile, installation of tile and the extra that had to be paid to get another piece of granite which all added up to about 10% of the total cost. But even with that I wouldn't be able to use them again or recommend them.
"While we regret this customer feels she did not have a good experience with the process of completing her custom cabinetry, we are pleased that she realizes that she received a beautiful piece of custom hand built furniture and it was custom installed. This entire process was exceedingly frustrating for all parties, including the granite suppliers and other vendors with which we work that tried exceptionally hard to please this customer. Everyone attempted to provide exceptional service. There were unusual circumstances, ie - the door manufacturer that supplied the door she finally chose decided to discontinue carrying their line of wood doors so the process began over with another door manufacturer. The customer "dropped by" the granite yard and picked a piece of remnant granite out without our knowledge. Walking through the granite yard with another customer I happened to see her name on a piece of granite and inquired if she had stopped by there and she said she had. She never notified us. However, since the tile was not finalized it was not feasible to go ahead and pay for a piece of granite. By the time the tile was finalized the granite yard (having gone through the winter) did not know which piece of granite had initially been tagged. Quite frankly, it took so long for this customer to make decisions, or return phone calls, that suppliers moved on to other customers. The brackets for the glass shelving were not readily available due to the request for the shelving to appear as if it were "floating". What seems "simple" to someone outside of an industry is not always the case. We did, in an attempt to allay her distress with the situation, give her a completely free installation of her tile back splash. I am sorry this customer was left with a small amount of grout left on the tile. She could have called us to stop back and take care of the situation. If she continued to call only her carpenter he did, in fact, leave our employment not long after he completed this project. In this customer's first part of her comments she indicates she took 7 months to make decisions. During this time she spent hours and hours with one of our owner/designers and showroom people. While we appreciated her business there is only a certain number of hours any company can put into a project before it becomes unprofitable. 7 months of "free" consultation is above and beyond, and this was to just get to the contract phase. At one point she was asked to pay a "committment" fee just in an attempt to get the project moving. Our owner even went out shopping, on her own time, to find a certain desk this customer wanted and emailed pictures to help her find what she wanted in the attempt to move things along. However, she did not want to start the project until "all her decisions had been made". It is unfortunate that any project becomes frustrating for the customer or the company; however, we are glad this customer feels she received a beautiful wall unit and that we "did a great job". Despite our frustration, we certainly did not let it color our commitment to quality. While we appreciate her business on the furniture she had us make, we agree, we would never work with this customer again."
"This review was most disappointing. I am the owner and was very involved in the selling and designing of this job. We always begin by giving our customers allowances for the items they will be picking out for their remodel. Allowances are determined by the budget the customer provides and what is realistic for their project. If they choose to go over their budget they are aware, at the time of purchase, what they are spending in excess. I personally went to the plumbing company with this customer to assist her in picking out her items. In each case, I reminded her she was going over budget. In her shower, she picked a travertine tile that was higher priced than the allowance we discussed during the signing of her contract. She saw it in our showroom and was advised that it was higher than her allowance. I know from pictures that I saw of her finished project that the bathroom looked very nice. I'm not sure that her budget was realistic with her choices. That is a very difficult and delicate situation and we work very hard to keep customers within their budgets. Initially upon the start of the project I was talking with [member name removed] almost daily. I then found out my sister was diagnosed with cancer and was making many trips to Cleveland to help both my sister, and my mother who lives in a nursing home. Prior to this change, I went to [member name removed]'s home and sat for 2 hours with her talking about her project and just life in general. I responded to phone calls and text messages. She had a project manager who was on site and handled the day to day progress of her project. He did not make me aware of any issues during the time that I was out of Columbus. Admittedly I did not have the communication with [member name removed] during the time I was away as I would have if I were here locally. If there were issues and my project manager did not make me aware, I'm truly sorry. Neither did I hear from the customer during this time of any concerns or problems. As I was returning to Columbus [member name removed] asked if I could meet with her. I set up a meeting for the following Saturday when I was back in town. The day before the meeting she cancelled and left me a note at the office indicating she did not wish to meet. That was the last I talked with her. As the owner I could have rectified whatever the situation was but was not given an opportunity to do so. I am sorry this experience was not a positive one for this customer."
Demo went great and was done in a week, with all the trash hauled away within 2 weeks. The rebuild involved ripping out soffits, moving locations of sink and stove and stove hood and vent, and removing and rebuilding the center island and all of the cabinets. All of the cabinetry was custom done in-house by the company and came out beautifully, just as we planned. They worked closely with city inspectors and we passed all inspections on-time along the way.
Componenets of the project included demolition, soffit elimination, drywall and ceiling rebuilds, complete island, cabinet, and desk custom rebuilds, new appliances, new sink and stove locations, granite counters, lots of electrical, plumbing, and gas line work, new wood floors, all new LED lighting and fixtures, and backsplash tile throughout kitchen.
Coordination with subcontractors was excellent, except for some installation glitches with Ferguson's, which supplied and installed the appliances (for an additional $14,000). However, the appliances we chose with Ferguson's help are beautiful and work and look as planned. We would use Ferguson's again, but they do seem to be having growing pains due to success. It would probably have worked better if we had let OHR be responsible for the appliances instead of arranging for that ourselves.
OHR asked for a 50% down payment at contract time, 25% a few weeks in, and the rest at completion. Reasonable.
Jeff and Kathy, the company owners, have a nice business going. They are careful, concerned, and responsive, with good prices and a nice showroom. Jeff took over our project in the last 2 weeks after the project supervisor left for another job, and he did a great job of finishing it out. We are extremely pleased!
"We truly appreciate the time this customer took to write such a comprehensive review. This kitchen remodel really gave us an opportunity to showcase the quality of cabinetry we build in our shop, and the beauty in totally transforming the home. The customer was so understanding as a result of unanticipated turnover but despite this we did not miss a beat in being able to complete the project in time for their OSU party! We hope to showcase this home in next year's 2014 NARI Showcase of Homes and appreciate them giving us the opportunity to do so."
I was under a time crunch because of my daughter's wedding and they finished the work a week before initially expected.
I would highly recommend this company.
"Thanks so much for taking the time to provide this wonderful review. It's always fun to help a customer "spruce up" and take care of those areas that keep our homes looking fresh and new. We were really happy to be able to get things done for you before your daughters wedding!! Hope it was a wonderful day. We look forward to serving you again in the future and truly appreciate your business."
"Thank you so much for your kind comments. This was a wonderful project that involved the best of all Organized Home Remodeling has to offer. First we helped the homeowner go through years of accumulation to see what needed to stay and what could be donated to become someone else's treasure. Upon that she moved out of her bedroom while we cleared out carpeting and old cabinets from the bedroom and the closet. The homeowner worked with one of our designers to pick out her hardwood flooring and the stain color she liked. New flooring was then installed into her bedroom and closet areas. Her closet was redesigned and custom built to encompass plenty of room for hanging clothes, plus a beautiful center piece of custom cabinetry which housed a (hidden) clothes hamper plus drawers and cabinetry for shoes and folding clothes. This cabinet matched the wall unit that was custom built to frame around and focus on creating a beautiful look around her windows and bed. The custom wall unit, 13' long, had plenty of drawer space, glass framed doors to display her collectibles, pull out nightstands, and built in lighting for ease and comfort for nighttime reading in bed. Adjacent to the long wall unit were two built in bookcases with bead board backs and custom valances to give a touch of a French Country look to the overall feel of the room. To bring the look together the room was painted with soft pastels and one accent wall. The closet doors were removed so it was easy to see how all the cabinetry complemented one another plus be more convenient getting in and out of the closet area. The woodwork and base trim were painted a bright white to match the cabinets. Due to the age of the home we used glass knobs to match the style of the hardware already existing in the home. We really appreciated this homeowner allowing us the opportunity to create a retreat for her to feel a bit of luxury at the end of a long day. She had waited a long time to give herself the gift of a beautiful bedroom and we are honored to have served her in this capacity."
There were only minor glitches that were quickly and enthusiastically resolved -- minor leak in the sink drain, some ceiling spackling, and issues with delivery of the cultured marble vanity top.
At all times, OHR folks were friendly, punctual, and professional. It's good to work with a true local company (not a franchisee), run by people with years of experience in both household storage and remodeling construction. We will used them on future projects.
"[member name removed], Thank you so very much for your kind words and support. We LOVED working with you and [member name removed]! You both gave such wonderful input as to what you wanted and the vision you had for how your areas would look and function when they were finished. We really appreciated your introducing us to a new product and what a space saver it ended up being to get into your attic! All in all we made a good team and I know I speak for everyone in the office who enjoyed your visits to the showroom! Thanks you again and we look forward to serving you again whenever you are ready!"
"[member name removed], Thanks so much for your review. We really appreciate when Angie's List members taking the time to tell others about their experience. I know your initial meeting with my company wasn't the smoothest and like any company, we have employees that sometimes don't live up to our standards. However, I really appreciated your being willing to continue the process in working with me to see things through. I'm glad the closets came out so well and I hope our will enjoy them for many years to come. Just let us know when we may be of service to you again."
The work itself began promptly as scheduled: two men finished the demolition work quickly, hauling away all the old material that afternoon without needing a dumpster parked in our drive, and had the new insulation and vapor barrier up, ready for city inspection. Mike, who then did the drywall installation and the woodworking, took care in getting the job right and in keeping the area as neat as possible. Throughout, we had very little dust to deal with.
Subcontractors for the stipple work (done within a couple hours) and electrical work also completed their jobs on time and without mess.
All along, Jeff remained in touch and ready to answer questions.
The only unexpected issue--one not known or anticipated by any who came to give us estimates--arose from the need to acquire city permits: now, the city requires the installation of wired smoke detectors on all levels of a house whenever a permit is issued for any indoor remodeling work. Even in this matter, Jeff managed to get the electrical subcontractor to bill the job at the reduced Angie's List rate, so that extra expense was less than it might have been.
We did our own painting of the walls and staining and finishing of the woodwork, and the room looks much better, and it certainly does not feel as drafty as before.
We contacted Red's along with three other Angie's List Bathroom remodelers in mid-April. We selected Red's becuase they said that they could complete the work in time for a large family gathering we were having at our house on the weekend of May 14th - the original contract dated April 28th was for $3,760. Bill (sales) made a big deal about how they would doing us a favor to fit us into their schedule and that they could easily complete the project in one week, in time for our out of town guests. The project manager arrived on May 9th and immediately announced that this was a minimum of a 10 day job, and that he would "try his best" to complete the basement shower by the 14th.
Since they were onsite, I asked them to give me a price to change out the fixture in the upstairs bathroom as well. They did not give me a price, but changed out the fixture, which did not fit, so they stopped 1/2 way thru the job. So when my guests arrived I had two full bathrooms plus a 3rd shower completely out of commission.
They finally completed the tile in the showers June 20th (over 1 month and 5x the duration promised) - after being in my house for over a month, I literally paid them almost $5,000 just to go away, although final sanding and prep of the drywall was not completed. But Bill was still in sales mode and promised to get me pricing on the shower door (a promise that had been made at every visit for the past month). It is now the end of August and I call him ever other week and every other week, he promise to send me the door pricing.
In a nut shell they came in 33% over contract, and 500% late - and we still don't have a shower door.
Overall Jeff is very responsive to issues and stays on top of things. The issues encountered were minor and possibly would have been avoided entirely if the project manager hadn't left just as the project was about to start. We are very satisfied with the end result of two refinished bathrooms.
